I don’t even unpack anymore.

I am throwing wool into a suitcase to catch a 12:15 flight to Lake Tahoe for SOAR where I am giving the keynote address. I’m very nervous. To help ease my anxiety (and because I leave at 10:00am and arrive at my hotel at 9:00pm tonight…that’s some time on my hands) I have packed a mitten kit, three socks in progress, three things to spin, a backup skein of sock yarn and my knitpicks options so that if I run out of yarn I can still go get more and have needles. I am still wondering if I should take more. (Maybe a shawl….)

Today is my darling Joe’s birthday. We’re not celebrating properly today (what with the plane) but I couldn’t let the day go without marking it. I’ve said nice things about him on his birthday before (here and here, for those of you so compelled) and I only care for him more today than ever.

There is nothing more that I can say about this sweetness of a man this year, except that I love him, he’s a good learner, he is more ethically decent than I could ever convey in words and he’s handled an extraordinarily difficult few months with grace, good humour, and less whining that you would ever believe possible. I’m truly proud to be his wife and I’m glad I’m with him every day.

  1. Greater love hath no woman than that she share her workspace with her man. He’s a lucky guy!
(And maybe, when you get home, you’ll have your office back.)

  2. This is the first time I’ve posted – I love your blog and your books, Stephanie. They make me laugh out loud!
Happy birthday to Joe – good guys are the best! And safe travels.
    Barbara in NH

  3. Happy Birthday Joe! What a tribute!
And to Stephanie…I hope no one tries to take your needles away from you on the flight, or I am sure I’ll be watching you on the news tonight. Stay cool….

  4. Happy Happy Birthday Joe and may this year see you all settled into a permanet job location. Get your self a nice big cake and have it with the girls. Have a safe journey Steph, and yes maybe you should take a shawl to knit on seeing as you knit faster than a speeding bullet

  5. Happy Birthday to Joe, who shares the day with my son Sam, who has his first birthday today. It must be something about men born this day. They are such gentle sweethearts!
    And bon voyage to Stephanie!

  6. What, happy-birthday-see-ya-later?!? I hope you are at least gonna bring him back a pressie! Well anyway, a safe journey to you and a Happy Birthday to Joe!

  7. Happy Birthday to Joe, and best wishes to you for a happy trip! I’m in the throes of yarn-packing decisions for a trip to Italy tomorrow – it’s not easy!

  8. Happy Birthday, Joe!
You’re a lucky guy to have a wonderful, funny woman like Stephanie. She clearly is still besotted. Sigh. Isn’t life grand?
I hope you have a very short time “at liberty” and can find the perfect space to resume your music production. The best of luck on your day.
The idea of sharing a cake tonight with the girls is good, as long as you have another one with Stephanie when she returns.
Steph? I think you have enough wool for a while in your suitcase. Remember to pack some clothes.

  9. Here’s to safe travels and many projects to keep you sane. And Happy birthday to Joe. Hopefully he can stay sane in a house of three girls and the halloween candy hauls.

  10. Happy birthday to Joe and loving a man who clutters up “your” space must be real love.
I know now, having my own attic room that i would never let my DH take over an inch… although i love him to bits, there are limits….
Have a good flight stephanie and take care.
    Regards,
    Valeria.

  11. Yarn in an emergency:
Jimmie Beans in Truckee and Reno
3 Dog Knit in Tahoe City
Wool Tree in South Lake Tahoe
Just want to help a sista out if things get bad…
Favorite Drinking Hole of ours Sunnyside Resort…just ask around!

  12. Happy Birthday Joe! And thank you for all that your are and all that you do and all you put up with, from all of us who appreciate how great your contribution is to Steph being able to do what she does.

  13. You sound like me in terms of packing yarn in case you run out, only I pack that much for a single evening of play rehearsal rather than a long plane ride and conference. 🙂

  14. Birthday wishes to Joe, of course! I do hope they let you go to the Market at SOAR, Steph…you will be in shock at the treasures with only 25 or so vendors! Have a wonderful time….are they letting you take a class or two, I hope?

  15. Happy Birthday, Joe! You share your birthday with my terrific brother. 🙂
Stephanie, I think that’s enough fiber to pack. There will be vendors at SOAR, you know, so if you should run out, you will be able to recover.

  16. Happy Birthday Joe! May this year be the best one yet.
As I get ready to pack for Mabel’s Needler’s Retreat (yes we Knitwits turn a 2 day event into a 5 day weekend) I’m laughing at the amount of wool I’m packing. My justification is that this time of year, in Canada, you really could get snowed in somewhere.
Socks – needed – portable and easy pattern, bring to all meals and outings.
Shawls – latest passion, bringing 2 patterns and required wool
Sweater – gotta finish it one day.
Throw – just bought from Philophers – must be near the yummy goodness!
Baby blanket and jackets – friends are due any day now!
    and random skeins for decoration.
Now to find the trunk space for it all…

  17. [How lovely you still like him enough to post this on his birthday, what with the Canadian version of Best Buy muscling out your knitting storage…]
Happy Birthday to the wonderful Joe!

  18. Happy Birthday Joe!
Stephanie . . . I hope you have a great trip. Someday, you should come due south to Cleveland. It is definitely less flying time which, of course, translates into less knitting time. But, we are fun group.

  19. happy birthday joe! you are so fortunate to have one another.
safe travels, and have fun at SOAR!

  20. Happy Birthday Joe! And Happy Birthday Dan! Our husbands share the same birthday. We’re celebrating with homemade mac ‘n cheese tonight and me attempting to finish knitting his birthday sweater by – at least – the weekend (though I presented it wrapped and unfinished this morning so I wouldn’t have to freak out about hiding it anymore!).
    Safe travels!

  21. Happy Birthday, Joe! I hope the girls make you a nice cake, and have ice cream with it since Stephanie’s on the road. (oops, sorry)
    Safe travels, Harlot.

  22. Happy birthday, Joe! It’s a very good birthday to have, isn’t it (as I know because it is shared, not by my husband or son or any other guy in my life, but by ME). There’s a lot to be said for being born on a school holiday – at least, there is when you’re a kid. Here’s hoping Stephanie brings you back something wonderful….

  23. If you get over to the other side of Lake Tahoe, there is a great hole-in-the-wall called “The Bridgetender”. They have AWESOME burgers and it’s just a great little place to have a Bloody Mary or a beer. 🙂

  24. Happy b’day, Joe!
Ah, the KP Options may come in handy — enjoy! But if you are packing 3 things to spin, why isn’t “wheel” on your list? Just askin’…

  25. You’ve said nothing more very eloquently, indeed. If only we could all have a Joe. (although I’m more than thrilled with my Ian.)
    Happy Birthday, Joe.

  26. Happy Birthday Joe!
Stephanie, I hope you packed enough to keep you busy. Those cross country flights can be a bear when you’re bored.

  27. Happy birthday, Joe!! As the wife of another non-whining-under-crazy-circumstances kind of guy, may I just say: You’re worth your weight in golden fleece. 🙂

  28. Happy birthday, Joe!
Stephanie, I know knitting needles are allowed on planes, but I’m beginning to wonder if the size of the arsenal might not trigger additional scrutiny? (Needles, spindle, more needles… You get the idea.)

  29. Wow. My first comment was yesterday and now you are coming to my neck of the woods! I live near Tahoe but am not going to SOAR. I don;t spin at all….would love to learn but there is just no time.
Pack warm, the forcast includes snow in the near future!
    And Happy Birthday Joe!

  30. Happy Birthday Joe. While Stephanie’s away, you could help yourself to her yarn room as a birthday present. Oh, but you wouldn’t do such a thing! Ethics an all that…

  31. Happy Birthday Joe. I don’t know if you’ve been to Lake Tahoe before but it is really beautiful and one of my favorite places to get away to.

  32. Happy Birthday Joe! I guess you both know how lucky you are but it is nice to be able to acknowledge it publicly. The delay to the birthday celebrations will just add to the anticipation.
And I am so jealous about you being able to take your knitting on the plane. I can’t. I couldn’t even take my lip balm last month. Lip balm! What was I going to do with it?! Threaten to apply the wrong shade of pink to the pilot?!

  33. I didn’t know you were going to this event. Cool. I’ll be at the Spinners Market on Friday. I just checked the schedule and that’s when you’re doing the book signing. Neat-O! 😀

  34. Happy birthday to Joe.
Wish I was at SOAR, too. Hated to miss this year. Thursday is market day and it is quite a fiber feast! If you don’t have it already or need more of it, Thursday is the day.
Have a great time at SOAR. It’s wonderful fun!

  35. Happy birthday, Joe! Have a good trip, Stephanie, and watch out for the mountain lions. You know, really big cats playing with really big yarn stashes, it could get dangerous…

  36. Happy Birthday Joe!
Tahoe is beautiful. Take lots of pictures! Did you bring along an empty suitcase? Have fun!

  37. Happy Birthday, Joe:
May you continue to dodge life’s curveballs with grace and good humor. Life in your household seems to be anything but dull these days. Crack open a cold one, take a moment and just breathe.
And dude? Remember, wool can be a great acoustic insulator. 😉
Hugs to you, your darling bride and adorable family,
    -S.Kate

  38. Happy birthday, Joe!
Make sure to say hi to Spinning Spider (Copper Moth) Jenny – hse’s at SOAR as well. But you probably knew that. 🙂

  39. Happy Birthday, Joe! You may need to knit a sweater while you’re there–some friends of mine got snowed on in June in Tahoe.

  40. Happy Birthday Joe. Thank you for the support you give Stephanie so that she can teach and entertain the rest of us.

  41. Happy Birthday Joe! Reading your posts from the past years made me all happy and warm inside. I’ve just started a relationship with a new man (we’re still in the disgusting cuddly stage) and you’ve reminded me why we hold out for a good guy, not settle for an okay one.

  42. I remember last years post as very moving–the bit where he began to take over household chores, the floor was no longer sticky when you came home from trips……..I think of how cleaning expresses love ever time I scrub the john.
Plus, no man has ever been shot while doing dishes.

  43. Happy Birthday Joe!
LOL… I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks fiber before clothing in the suitcase. Last week it was a possibility that I’d have to make an extended stay at the hospital for some tests, so I came home and started throwing balls of yarn into a backpack saying “I’ll need this if…” if I finish that project, if I make it to the end of this ball on this project, if I get bored with that project, if I’m there for more than three days, ect. My husband laughed at me until he realized that what I was really doing was saving us both from the pain and anxiety of having to request that he dive into my stash and bring me exactly what I asked for.

  44. Happy Birthday Joe!
Steph, love the blog & books. I’ve been reading a while, but this is my first comment…is there a pattern to knit my own Joe, or a reasonable facsimile?

  45. Joe, happy birthday dude, you are one very special man.
Steph, have a great time at SOAR, rock the house.
I’d personally say you had the knitting covered but you didn’t say how long you were going to be gone either….

  46. You posted a little bit ago that you will buy additional needles on the way home, especially sock needles, needles that you already have 5 pairs/sets of. Could you keep some of those multiples in the car so you yuo can spend that money on yarn? You could fit a few sets of sock needles in the glovebox.

  47. A wonderfully happy birthday wish for you Joe — may the next month find you settled into the best new studio ever, and the whole next year find you prosperous and happy. Good guys deserve only the best!
And Stephanie. Damn. Now I have to buy more needles. Wow, those are fantastic — and would be so much easier to take to Europe next year than the 6 sets I was planning on. Safe trip, great speech, we’ll see you back soon — when you can have a ‘proper’ celebration with your honey!

  48. Brat that I am, I can’t help but point out how many of us asked about this poor, probably shivering, paragon of manliness’ gansey on this exact date last year. Did that get packed too so you can lovingly present it to him upon your return?
(don’t look at me like that. I’ve been snarkfree in these here comments for days now. Do you have ANY idea how hard that is for me?)

  49. Happy birthday, Joe! Best of luck at SOAR, Stephanie, you will wow them as always. As the song says, the knitters are all heavenly, but the traveling is hell.
    (OK, I paraphrased a bit.)

  50. Wow, its so wonderful that you have such nice things to say about him after all these years. I am completely bummed…Tahoe ? I am about 1 1/2 hrs from where you are meeting…wow, wish I had a reason to be there.
    Kris

  51. Wow, its so wonderful that you have such nice things to say about him after all these years. I am completely bummed…Tahoe ? I am about 1 1/2 hrs from where you are meeting…wow, wish I had a reason to be there.
    Kris

  52. Happy birthday Joe! And good luck with finding a new studio that suits your needs and more.
Have a great time at SOAR. I wish I could be there, it’s even in my home state this year. For reasons I won’t bore you with, I can’t leave my dog. That means no trips until he’s gone which I hope will be longer that the few months the vet thinks he has left. I’d rather have him than travel.

  53. Well, that was stupid. Lake Tahoe doesn’t actually mean California, it’s also Nevada. No matter, it’s close and that’s the important part.

  54. Happy Birthday, Joe! Hope you get a studio back soon.
Have fun at SOAR, Steph. I know you’ll do well. Remember, you LIKE talking to knitters. And I know what you mean about packing the knitting. I’m coming to Toronto next weekend for a MUSIC weekend, but beyond packing my instrument and sheet music, all I’m thinking is how much knitting can I get in my bag and still have clean underwear for the trip. I’m thinking thrummed/to-be-felted mitts (note to self: pull thrumms off wool cake before packing), a hat on circs and socks. All small projects. All Christmas presents. Heck, I might even be able to pack extra socks to wear.
    Have fun!

  55. Happy Birthday Joe.
Best of luck with the search for studio space. I hear your lovely wife can be placated (bribed) with dark chocolate…. All the best to you both.

  56. Happy Birthday, Joe!!
Enjoy the house while your wife is away…
Soon, you’ll have your own Yurt!!
    YurtAlong anyone? LOL!!
    ~Suz~

  57. A gloriously Happy Birthday to you, Joe. After reading the material from the hotlinks, I too am in love with you :-). I think the Universe must be very pleased with the union of you and Stephanie; you are a wonderful pair of human beings. And Stephanie…you must have some bit of awareness of the great love knitters have for you, yet you still say you get nervous before speaking? I can’t say I understand that, but it’s just one more endearing trait among many. May God (ahem…I think you previously said you are a heathen), or the higher power of your choosing continue to bless and smile upon your union. ((hugs))

  58. First: Joe: May this be the first of a thousand days, each better than the one before! Happy Birthday to you…
Second: Steph, blessings to you for recognizing a Good Man; I have one too, and they’re not all… Let me quote Anne Bradstreet (Am. Poet, mid-17th century) whose words I use on my Beloved Muggles’ valentine every year:
“If ever two were one, then surely we.
    If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye women, if you can.”

  59. Happy Birthday, Joe! (enjoy the “empty office”, but I betcha you miss your cubicle-mate)
And dang, I didn’t even know about this Tahoe thing. I could have made a spa weekend out of this sort of thing had I planned in advance.
Have fun! It’s a good time of year to be there.

  60. Joe, Dude, Happy Birthday! Hope you have a truly wicked day! Have you ever considered writing a book? Like a how too manual for husbands with wives with fibre addictions, my husband would love to know how you do it! I personally think you are a legend!

  61. A veritable shower of birthday wishes to you, man Joe. Will you be hoisting a few at Lettuce Knit???

  62. Happy Birthday, Joe–
I’ve got one of those wonderful men of my own (I call him Mate and he will be mine and I’ll take care of him forever) and you should never underestimate the divine gratitude of a woman who knows what a wonderful husband she really has. He is the merino/cashmere lace-weight among men, and she will treasure him always.

  63. Happy Birthday Joe!! Glad to hear that you’re “one of the good guys”. I got one of those, too, so I know how much you are appreciated. 🙂
Stephanie – I ALWAYS overpack yarn and projects for trips. Heaven forbid that I should get anywhere near running out of knitting while gone. The horror.

  64. Happy, Happy Birthday Joe!
I am so glad that you both have eachother as love like yours gives everyone else hope and something to aspire for. Glad to see that someone else thinks there husband is “all that and a bag of chips” too!
Stephanie, as far as overpacking goes, THANK YOU so much for making me feel normal. I thought only I did stuff like that with my knitting.

  65. Happy Birthday Joe! May you receive studio space for a gift of a price by the end of the year.
I overpack for everything and that’s before I even start throwing in yarn and needles.

  66. Happy Birthday, Joe! Bless you, dealing with the studio bit, trying to fit into a small house, *and* Stephanie having to take off – we women really, really love the good ‘uns who handle such situations with patience and humor. Consider yourself hugged (in a sisterly way [g]) by many, many women who appreciate all you do for Steph and the girls, and the way you share her with us. Thank you! Now go pick up some beer. 😉
Steph, safe trip, have fun, if you get a spare hour or so to just do some scenery looking (hah!) take a drive even partway around Lake Tahoe if you can. It’s gorgeous! And stop worrying about the keynote thing. You’ll do fine. Or try what you did in Portland. Take a hike from a yarn store partway to the venue. Tahoe has *hills* – you’ll be too concerned about catching your breath to worry about facing the audience. 😉 Knock ’em dead, woman!

  67. Happy Birthday, Joe!
    Happy Birthday to You!
    Happy Birthday to You!
    Happy Birthday dear Joe!
    Happy Birthday to You!
Yay! I just had to write that! Anyway. Have a happy birthday and a happy new year! (Now you clap). I’m 11. Since 2 days ago.

  68. Happy Birthday Joe! I think when one’s wife is out galavanting on your bithday.. you should celebrate with pizza and beer. Cheers!

  69. Glad every single day… just not at lunch. 🙂
happy b-day to your DH. Hope you 2 have something special planned for when you get back!

  70. I think we all love Joe a little bit after learning so much about him. He has set the bar very high for what a real man should be like.
    Happy Birthday Joe!

  71. Hope you threw in a few FOs to wear as well; chance of snow in the next few days… enjoy Lake Tahoe. I wanted to attend but only the “real” participants are allowed (those who signed up six months ago before the dang thing filled up). Our illustrious guild member, Sara L. will be teaching so hug each other. A lovely tribute to your man.

  72. Congratulations, Mr. Harlot, and the happiest of birthdays to you! May you enjoy a little time all to yourself with the telephone and not miss Stephanie overmuch.
And to Ms. Harlot: enjoy Tahoe and try not to be too nervous. If they are knitters they will love you.

  73. Stephanie, could you please write to me.. i’ve got an offer for you from a yarn company.. hugs karola
ps HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE!! you married man

  74. Joe – Life is good!???!!!! its your B day and your wife truely loves you. Some days more than others, but I know a committed woman.
    Happy Birthday Joe
Never knitted a sock, but about too.
    Help……..

  75. Amen to knitting on airplanes. I tend to knit socks on planes myself. Otherwise others get fussy about my needles. Anyway, happy birthday to Joe and good luck with the Keynote Address! I am sure you will be fabulous.

  76. Ahh… Happy birthday Mr. Harlot!
Be safe on your trip m’dear! Take care. Don’t abandon us for long! We’ll pine if you do.

  77. Happy Birthday Joe! Hope you have a great day and many more wonderful birthdays! Have a wonderful time at SOAR dear Harlot. They will absolutely love you! I won a scholarship and got to attend a few years ago, and had the best time ever. It’s the absolutely coolest thing. Everyone there is a die-hard fiber junkie/addict and tend to be on the “Oh my gosh you made that!” talented side. You’ll be in heaven. I mean, where else can you ask Sara Lamb dyeing advice in the ladies bathroom? I’m hoping that I can go again in 2008. Sigh! I just have to wait until then. Please keep us posted! You are going to have a blast!

  78. Well, Steph, perhaps there’s a reason he was born on All Saints Day!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Happy travels…

  79. Hey Steph – If you get hard up for some new yarn – check out Jimmy Beans Wool on McCarran and S. Virginia in Reno on your way back to the airport. Great place (I use to work there). Well, still kinda do – as I teach classes for them. And I know that you are really busy, but if you are going to stop by there, please, please, pleeeease email me! 🙂 I would so love to meet you. I so wanted to go to SOAR this year, but finances didn’t allow. Maybe you’ll meeet my friend Allison there. Anyway, have a great time.
And seriously – enjoy the view. Too bad you didn’t see the Lake a little sooner as this year was absolutely gorgeous what with the fall we’ve been having. I was just up there a couple weeks ago…and there are simply no words!!! I hope you don’t get snowed on, but as I’m posting this it’s raining outside, so I’m sure it is a lot colder up the mountain. 🙂 Hope you brought your woolies!! 🙂 Have a great time!

  80. Happy Birthday, Joe!!!
Beautiful tribute, Stephanie. Have a safe and fun trip. Don’t be too nervous; you’re awesome. 🙂
    Take care,
    Rosane.

  81. Just heard you will be in La Belle Provence
    next week !
and it’s not listed on your website, so it must be a big secret (shhhh).
Am So sorry, that i will miss you while you’re here in Montreal.
I will be at SOFA Chicago with my jewellery on show. What bad timing for me, knitwise. Especially for someone that works at home 7 days a week !
have a great time while you’re here next week.

  82. Happy Birthday, Joe.
Be good in Tahoe, Steph. With all that you’re taking, there probably won’t be room in your suitcase to take anything home. Huh? Don’t forget to breathe.

  83. I’m astounded by the amount of yarn you’re taking, but then again, it’d take me like 5 years to use up all that 🙂
    Happy Birthday Joe!

  84. Happy Birthday Joe!
I was looking at the knitpicks options, and I have to say that the needle size tags are a brilliant idea – I haven’t been able to knit anything circularly on my US8s because the tips are currently on the sleeves of my springtime hoodie that I ran out of yarn on, and I know that if I take the tips I’ll forget what size I was using. (I haven’t gone to just buy more yarn because I was using my stepgrandmother’s yarn stash that she left me when she died, and some of the yarn’s got to be 20 years old or more… one skein was from Woolworth’s and was marked 97 cents. And Red Heart’s “Pale Yellow, no dye lot” then was a different shade than it is now. I should’ve planned better when I was picking the yarn for the sweater.)

  85. Happy Birthday Joe! My dear Brother’s birthday was yesterday. Scorpio he assures me is the best sign in the Zodiac to be.
Safe journeys Steph, and I packed almost as much yarn and projects for a 6 day car trip, along with two books and the Knitpicks cataloug….
I just got home and have been enjoying playing catch up on my favorite blog.
LOVED the Shawl and you have every right to be proud of it.
I am working on the Feather and Fan lace scarf project from knitpicks. My first ever lace attempt…slow going but loving it none the less.
The sock is gorgeous and with the beads? oh my!!!
So tell me…How many areas of frost bite did Meagan have?

  86. Happy birthday, Joe! My birthday is this month, too. November babies rule.
I love that you were throwing wool into the suitcase. That’s the way to do it. Forget the clothing. Just remember the wool.
I can identify. I’d be terrified if I had to speak in front of people. I can interpret a play in sign in front of a theatre full of people but don’t ask me to speak. That won’t fly at all.
Break a leg, as the theatre folk say…

  87. As I sit, watching a torrential downpour outside my window, I am thinking, the Yarn Harlot is in Tahoe….probably getting snow, cause you are right up the hill from where I am sitting. Hopefully, you are settled in Granlibakken and enjoying it….
    Kris

  88. I look upon all those knitters with such envy, those who travel to fairs festivals and criscross the continent and the ocean. I came to motherhood late in life and enjoyed my salad days while in my 20’s and 30’s. Now I must pad my nest egg because children, even one, are oh so expensive to keep. I am grateful to those with the time and resources to travel and then share their experiences in words and pictures. Keep going, just keep the balance.

  89. I just want to reinforce what other commenters already said: the Lake Tahoe area is GORGEOUS any time of year. I hope you get a chance to enjoy the great outdoors and aren’t trapped inside the whole time!

  90. Wow, the Granlibaken? That’s just…I mean…well, I lived in Kings Beach (about 10 miles away from Tahoe City and your “mountaineque retreat site) and feel like you’re going down to my old haunting grounds…
I miss being underemployed and frozen in Tahoe…

  91. Dear Harlot,
I’m absolutely crushed. It’s 7:32 pm Thursday night and I just read that you’re speaking in Tahoe City. I’m just a mere 18 miles up the road. And you will never be in the area ever ever again…will you???? What can I say…I’m not even worthy. I hope you have a wonderful weekend in our beautiful mountains. The rain is supposed to clear up Saturday and Sunday. Maybe there are still a few of our mega-gorgeous autumn leaves left for you to enjoy against the backdrop of Lake Tahoe. Enjoy Enjoy. If only Joe were with you. Happy Birthday to him. Love you and love your books and blog.

  92. Happy Birthday, Joe — Turn those coffee cups mouth-up and dig into the ice cream (share with the girls and they’ll never rat on you.)

  93. You’re going to be in my backyard. I’ve never been so bummed that I don’t spin. With any luck, I’ll make it to the market.
Sorry, but the weather is going to be pretty crummy while you’re here.. Of course, we skiers are happy that we’re starting to get some snow.
I join everyone else in sending Joe happy birthday wishes.

  94. What about getting a storage unit for the boxed up stuff, or the less “necessary” stuff, if there is any such thing.

  95. That’s what I love about KnitPix Options – I just take the whole dang thing with me when I go on a trip; no worries about switching needles for gauge. But I’ve had trouble twice now with the purple cord coming loose at the join. Anyone else having this problem? They sent me a new 16″ the first time I called, but I’m embarrassed to call and say the 24″ cord is doing the same thing now too!!! Did I just get a bad batch or is this common????

  96. I just found out that you’ll be in Ottawa next week! I’ll be there with bells on, (I’ll bring my mom too…not sure if she’ll wear bells) My current sock-in-progress is a surprise for her so I’ll have to start something else to knit on while you’re chatting! See you there!

  97. GAH – I still don’t have a babysitter for my daughter for this Sunday, and Hubs & I have tickets for the Fashion Show here in CT!! Don’t suppose I could bring her? I doubt it….I should call someone to find out.

  98. Thanks, Stephanie, to the link to your 2004 tribute to Joe. You’re spreading the love this month in 2006. I was so inspired by your list of reasons to love your man, that I am compiling mine for my honey. He is just as wonderful and deserves to know it. Thanks for all you do for your readers. Have a great time at SOAR; I know you’ll soar as “keynote speaker” and throughout all that follows. HAVE FUN!

  99. Already sent my happy birthday wishes to Joe…just wondering..is it normal for Yarnharlot not to post? I’ve been checking daily…I miss laughing with her. 🙁
