  1. I’m sorry if you stated this before, but have you checked Ravelry to see if someone there is harboring some? Possibly there is even a nice, yarn owning person near enough that you could meet them for coffee and make a deal?

  2. DUDE! Happy happy! Bet you don’t even mind so much that the wee one beat the yarn delivery. It will last that baby for his/her entire lifetime…what’s one or two little days at the beginning?

  3. If I had it – I’d send it by fast post. Can’t wait to see how this turns out. Blog – start your engines.

  4. I don’t have the right yarn, but here are some happy thoughts for a smooth, uneventful delivery, (well except for the fabulous event of a new baby)!

  5. Why don’t you pick a little rainbow-colored yarn and finish the blanket? It will be there for the arrival of the baby, and I think it would be lovely to give the new child a beautiful rainbow for his or her entry. And then you can visit and reknit it while the little one sleeps.

  6. Hope you get the yarn, but hope you don’t knit so fast that it scorches. Best wishes to mom and baby for a simple, uncomplicated, and speedy delivery.

  7. Is this the breaking of the knitted baby item curse? Pregnant friends of yours can breathe easier knowing that they will safely be able to deliver their child, whether or not the last minute knitter has finished!

  8. I hope the Niagara person can get the yarn to you somehow! Meet up at the Grimsby rest stop maybe? It’s the Balls Falls big craft show this weekend, so traffic might be awful on the QEW. Hope not though.
You do realize that you’ll have extra yarn to make something once the postal service cooperates. And then you might need more…. that’s what happens to me!
Waiting to find out hos this ends! 🙂

  9. I checked ravelry and I count three people in Canada with that yarn: ribbiter in Ontario, gypsy4950 in Saskatchewan, and superrosesmom in Manitoba. None have it listed as a destash though. Maybe?

  10. Go internet go. We need some white magic. Niagara not that far. Just a bit up the lake.

  11. Newborns need hats. So make Baby a hat so you go visit full-handed, and baby gets the blanket on Wednesday. It’s ok.

  12. You know, I was wondering idly after work today if that package from Canada had arrived. And then I realized that I hadn’t ordered anything from Canada, and that I was actually wondering if your yarn had arrived. I hope it gets there soon.

  13. In the same vein as the yarn need – I’m hoping to see the pattern for the lovely baby sweater from the August shower sometime within the next several months. I NEED it by February. (early February)

  14. Crossing fingers, toes, eyes, arms and legs that Killer Bunny is not out of town visiting relatives this holiday weekend…….
Susannah @ 10:59 check out Stephanie’s post of Aug 14, 2013, “welcome to the flock”. I believe all relevant info you may need is revealed in this post. Good luck and have fun–looks like a yummy project!
    Cheers, Barbie O

  15. In the meantime, I just came across this: CLICK for Babies campaign to help prevent infant abuse: knitters are being asked to knit purple (any shade) hats for babies to be distributed with information about PURPLE crying and infant abuse prevention…
    http://clickforbabies.org
I hope that the yarn comes soon. You know, I’ve had packages delivered by Canada Post on Sunday lately (twice!) to my surprise. I’m not sure that this would happen on a long weekend, though…
Since you can’t teleport the yarn, however much that you would wish to do so, I wish you a great Thanksgiving… despite your lack of yarn to finish the baby blanket! Your family is still your family, your friends still your friends, the baby still the baby, the blog still the blog… and despite the blanket not being done the way that you worked towards and strived for with every fiber of your being… there is still plenty to be grateful for!!

  17. There are several people who have it in their stashes on ravelry. Look them up and I’m sure one will help you, Steph. Good luck!

  18. I have 2 skeins of that in California and am happy to ship one or both of them out tomorrow at whatever speed you like if I can find an open post office. Assuming you still need it that is.

  19. Dear Stephanie, While I respect your urge to hit all due dates, I’m wondering: Will this baby really know or care if the blanket is a day or week late? The baby will be around for a good long time, God willing, so respectfully I ask, what’s the rush? The baby can wait a few days…Really!

  20. You have me so anxious I’m holding my breath!! I do hope that yarn arrives post haste! All the best to Baby and Mom, meanwhile.
And I’m again marveling at your productivity and itching to take your Knitting for Speed and Proficency class. Please do return to Verb, in Oakland CA!

  21. For the first time ever, the baby blanket I am giving is late. The baby was born in August. My dad came down with aggressive lung/brain cancer a few months earlier, and it sucked away my ability to knit. I was so overwhelmed, my needles did not want to work.
My dad is stable and the blanket is now moving along. I have rationalized that babies who have just moved to New Orleans don’t really need a Madeline Tosh wool blanket at this time of year. If I get the blanket there before the weather turns, I will be okay. I’ve been hyperventilating, but it will be ok. When does the weather turn in Louisianna?

  22. Am following saga on twitter. Stop. Exchange seems to be planned at international border. Stop. Exchange is yarn, nothing nefarious! Stop. Awaiting next update. Stop. Wishing everyone safe driving. Stop. And safe delivery of baby and good health for mom and babe. Stop. And a relieved Auntie who is calm. Stop. Maybe Auntie needs to cuddle babe to reclaim calm. Stop. All is good.

  23. Good Grief! I am so excited by this! Will you make it? Yay for @MJPomilio . I have been checking all day to see if you get there before the baby!

  24. Welcome baby! Bringing Thanksgiving with you! My second baby was born at Thanksgiving… a beautiful time of year to greet the world. Safe passage. 🙂

  25. Put the loose stitches on a bit of yarn, fold it, tuck it, wrap it, present it, then wrap baby, goo gah, take photos (with said unfinished bit against baby and invisible from camera, unwrap baby and take it back to finish! Poor Killer Bunny thats all i can say! good luck.

  26. Im wondering why such an expert knitter like you seems to have this problem a lot. Not buying enough yarn for your projects. Just say in….

  27. Well, since I’d never wish anyone an extra long labor, I’ll wish for super speedy yarn delivery. Go, truck, go!!!
And a warm welcome to the new wee one when s/he decides to make their appearance.

  28. Good luck! Hope mom and baby have a smooth run! The yarn harlot will prevail, no doubt
    😀

  29. I can’t help with your dilemma but I saw on Twitter that’s all sorted anyway. I wanted to tell Aileen that the weather in Louisiana will turn for about 5 minutes sometime this month, maybe 24 hours sometimes next month and then there will be a few strings of a week or 2 at a time in January & February – one of which WILL occur during the middle of a parade at Mardi Gras and everyone will end up freezing and underdressed. No worries on the blanket going that way.

  30. I looked at the Twitter to see what’s going on. Whee! Glad you’re getting the yarn. I thought it was funny MJPomilio says she didn’t even know why she got it. Obviously, it was meant to be yours! (You know, so many times in life, we think we have things under control, but the truth is, we’re just along for the ride.)

  31. A new baby AND Thanksgiving! What better reason is there to give thanks? Congratulations to your family.

  32. Thanksgiving will never be the same! Peace and Love to all your family. I pray the baby is healthy and will not need the blanket because there will be much love keeping the newly arrived child warm.

  33. I hope someone prints out that breath-taking adventure from Twitter, post by post, so someday the new wee one can see how his/her arrival became an International Event!

  34. This is the kind of thrill a minute action that truly qualifies knitting as sport. If the Harlot were simply practicing a craft or hobby, it would follow logically that she could wait for the yarn. Can the Harlot wait? No. Does she need to wait? Not when she’s willing and able to mobilize the knitters and do some intense driving and power knitting. To be sure, I am as excited about this whole thing as other people are for any sporting event.

  35. Oh, how wonderful! A quick prayer for safety of mother and child and how exciting!
(Maybe you could knit a quick hat in the next ten minutes while you’re wishing for blankie yarn?)

  36. #tearsinmyeyes the goodness of people around the world is wonderful. It is a little thing in the big picture, but everything to the people involved.

  37. Oh, that’s a great story! Love you, internet! Yay for the hero with the yarn that brought it to the Toronto/Buffalo border, that’s great news!
So…blanket picture? It had three hours of knitting left on it, shouldn’t it be done by now? Is it swimming in a bathtub? Status, at least on Twitter, please! 🙂

  38. Hang on….relax a bit. !
That baby wont be wanting the shawl the second it arrives in the world.
The baby will want a bath and a meal before heading off home. Its Mother may want the same..I am sure you will have just 1 more day to knit.

  39. Relax, take a few minutes to realize that this baby & mom are busy being borñ. Knit on a emerald to finish & in a couple days you’ll have the white, but realize the green looks grand & why did you go insane for a brief time.

  41. Wow – I just tracked onto twitter to see “Mission Accomplished”! Thanks to MJ – loved the photo of you both with the skein. What a kind thing to do. Renews my faith in people, this does.

  42. Yay for the power of knitters, I am glad you have the yarn and hope that you get to finish the blanket before the baby arrives, I remember this is important to you, so knit like the wind!

  43. Only on the Yarn Harlot can there be a Yarn Emergency!!! And on on National Holiday too. You keep life interesting.

  44. Next blanket way over estimate please. I can hardly take this stress. Good luck. Happy thanksgiving.

  45. Next blanket way over estimate please. I can hardly take this stress. Good luck. Happy thanksgiving.

  46. I’ve been resisting being a Twitterer or a Tweeter or whatever they are called, but after seeing that the Yarn Emergency played out to a successful end on Twitter I might just sign up.
    Knitters are wonderful people. <3

  47. What happened to the yarn you ordered? It never got to you? If you go on Ravelry to get the yarn you can limit the search to people who are nearest you and expand out from there. I am rooting for you. You are the Yarn Harlot. You might want to try Ebay or Etsy too. Have you called every yarn store in Toronto? The excitement is killing me.

  48. 3-D printing would cure this problem.
of course, 3-D printing would be able to conjure up an entire finished “hand” knitted baby blanket, too. It would be a cinch to get those patterns onto a mobo.

  49. If I had it I’d gladly get it to you. Loving thoughts for the new baby. BTW, my daughter and I are going to be seeing you in Rockland and are very excited!

  50. Very relieved to see from tweets that your blanket is blocking after you knitted into the small hours . . .

  51. I suggest knitting the border with some other yarn so as to help the birth, then ripping back that little bit when the yarn arrives. Best wishes to the new mom and baby.

  52. I think if you took all the exclamation marks from the comments above mine and spun them into yarn, you would have enough to finish the blanket.

  53. I thought I’d check in here to see if you’d found yarn, even though I was sure you wouldn’t post on the weekend. But you were able to get some, I’m reading from the comments! Yay! Happy knitting!

  54. Oh, I don’t know, I think she’s about an hour or so from Niagara, and I’m pretty sure that the person with the yarn would give up a ball to the one and only Yarn Harlot!
    What do you say, Steph?

  55. I once gave a baby poncho with the circular needle still in it at a baby shower. And yes, the baby did get the finished poncho, hat and booties by the time they of the right size to wear.
How about tossing the socks in as well? For (much) later?

  56. Can you put a lifeline on what you have and give that to them so they can get some nice newborn-at-the-hospital shots with the blanket?
    Just a thought….

  57. And someday the baby may read this and realize just what went into that ratty old blanket their mother finally threw away when they were a teenager because it looked like a victim of a natural disaster (or well-loved by a baby/todler/child/teen, the look is much the same). They’ll know the love and stress that went into the blanket that kept them warm when they were cold, comforted them when they were sick, sheltered them when they were scared, hugged them when they felt alone.

  58. I just read your Twitter feed from the past couple of days. This is amazing. All hail the power of Yarn!

  59. I think you should finish this blanket with “whatever you have” and you will fulfill two things. A completed blanket to give to the baby and your daughters statement that real knitters create things that don’t match!
    Welcome wee one…

  60. Hooray! I was going to try to offer you some older skeins of white Germantown which looks like the right weight. So glad you got the right stuff instead and won’t have to see the wrong white along the edge like that every time you see the blanket.

  61. I see by the comments that the saga has played out – I’m not on Twitter though so once the festivites of Thanksgiving and birth are properly celebrated, us Tweetless Bloggers would love the update also. 🙂 Thanks!

  62. Are each of us checking in with YH 7-8x a day, just to get the details of this wonderful event, the completion of the baby blanket, AND Thanksgiving? I know I am, and I am ready for details!!!!! Isn’t the long weekend just about over?

  63. I had a dream last night that I’d woken up to a post where you’d decided to finish the edging in light brown yarn. And got really upset when we told you “no.”

  64. What if ….
…. The WHOLE WORLD cooperated this way??
Can you imagine?? I want to live on that planet. I think we should call it ….
    Planet YH? Planet PurlMcPhee? KnitWorld??
    What are your ideas?

  65. Amazing triumph over the seeming absolutes of time and materials. Perhaps only you could pull it off. Bravo! Hope your blog is being saved safe from technical evolution for this niece and all other family to come so they can read about your love and heroic efforts.

  66. congratulations on the birth of your niece! gorgeous blanket and yes yarn miracles are out there knitters unite!!!

  67. I am knitting your One Row Handspun scarf and am wondering whether you have a matching pattern for a hat . . . Could you let me know, please. Thanks.

  69. Aw, this was a really good post. Finding the time and actual
effort to generate a good article… but what
can I say… I hesitate a lot and never manage to get nearly anything done.
