I won’t say it’s cold

Safely arrived in Mexico – only to find that it’s a bit chilly – which is to say that instead of the -20 at home, it’s 23 here.

Not quite warm enough for swimming, and there’s a terrific wind. Still, at the risk of being sandblasted, my mum and I stood on the beach and drank our tea, and looked North. Both to see if better weather is blowing down, and because no matter how nippy we are here, we’re just going to be glad we’re not there.

It’s a good day for knitting.

  1. T’was a balmy -35 degrees (Celsius or Fahrenheit, take your pick ) here in TO when I was walking the dogs this morning…but as the sun was shining, I was dressed in many layers topped with a very warm knitted hat, it wasn’t that bad! Enjoy your vacay, the snow and cold will probably still be here when you get back! 😛

  2. My Phoenix friends would say that your temps in Mexico were downright wintery. My dad in San Diego would declare it perfect, except for that wind. No matter what, it sounds like good knitting weather to me!

  3. Mmmm. I can smell the salt air. And the breeze, while not very balmy, is still so much warmer than here in chilly Philly. A beautiful photo. Thank you for sharing.

  4. The lady doing my bone density study this morning said she had just returned from Mexico, and had found the “expat old ladies” knitting on the beach amusing. Yes, she really said that. No respect I tell you. Knitters don’t get no respect.

  5. you are Canadian. You can swim when it is 23 degrees….especially there cause the water temperature is probably about 19….
but, hey, any excuse to have a day to knit, right?

    • I guess that depends on where you are from, Canada is huge and the climate on the coast is very different from the inland, and I guess north and south as well. The same applies to Norway. Many from the north (like me) thinks it’s warm if it’s 18+, and would gladly go for a (very short) swim if the water is warmer than 12+, while southerners would’t dream of swimming unless the water is closer to 20+ or more.

Actually Norwegian smalltalk is usually about the weather…

  6. It’s a balmy 73 degrees here in Tucson this afternoon. We don’t usually hit the 70’s in February. Even the ground squirrels are popping up from estivation early. Fortunately the birds who come to our feeders are willing to share! Have a wonderful vacation, Stephanie. Beach knitting is the best.

  7. After a quick conversion, that’s 73 degrees F. May not be warm enough for swimming, but I would be wading and wearing shorts. Do enjoy the warmth and please bring some back you if possible.

    • Ermegursh. We are in Germany, where winter is refusing to give up, and I dream of 73 degrees! Having said that, the Handsome and I have visited Mexico in late Feb and were slightly off put by the temps. We spent more time indoors than we planned…which is how we got Lovely #2.

  8. Any day at the beach is a good day, regardless of the weather. A day at the beach while knitting is about the most perfect day there could be.
It is beautiful, thanks for sharing a picture.

  9. Does that mean 73 F? I’ll take it! Tomorrow we are planning on going to see Niagara Falls, frozen. Or partially frozen. Anyway, if there isn’t another snow-bomb on the way we will at least be sight-seeing, doing touristy stuff, maybe hopping over the border to say Hi to Canada….instead of being trapped in the house avoiding frostbite. Have fun where you are! Maybe when you come back things will be on the upswing (oops, shouldn’t jinx it)

    • Personally, I wouldn’t mind about an extra 50 degrees right now. We know it’s cold here when my hands hurt, even when I’m not knitting.

  10. It was 38 below [F.] at 4am – 21 above sounds positively balmy. Enjoy it. By the way, how on earth do you have time to keep up with your comments, as well as write, as well as spin, as well as knit!!!

  11. Looks and sounds just like the weather in Grand Cayman, where we are now. Returning to Boston tomorrow though, so we are positively luxuriating in the relative heat. And the snow-free quality of all outdoor surfaces.

  12. Enjoy your visit and absolutely love-love-love your Fox paws. You know all the yarn in your colorway is gone gone gone (no I didn’t look but who needs to?) Hi mom!

  13. That looks and sounds a whole lot more comfortable than the weather here. I am so sick of overcast skies, snow, and wind-chill factors that I could vomit!

Remember to get some souvenir prezzies for Hank, Lou, and all the girls. Also, remember to let the cat out of your suitcase soon. ;-)!

  14. I would happily settle for freezing (32*f) at this point. I don’t think we’ve seen that since Christmas. What a wild winter this has been. More snow this weekend, and than I hear it might warm up near 40*f Sunday, which will actually be a nightmare, as there is also a potential for rain. I’d rather have the below zero temps than the potential for flooding.

    Enjoy your trip!

  15. May I recommend some Bacardi Añejo? An excellent rum at a moderate price — downright cheap if you have an OXO store in your vicinity. I became fond of it while studying in Puebla and am sipping some tonight while recalling my host family and my adventures.

  16. Sounds like you’re having lovely weather, though maybe not for swimming. Enjoy the sun and sand! It’s been in the mid 50’s F here in FL, which is a fair bit colder than we’re used to.

  17. Will readily admit my American/Californian mind was horrified to read 23 degrees until I realized that was Celsius! Hope your toes are cozy in sand or socks, and you’re knitting away and enjoying a break from the nasty winter.

  18. Well warm it up for me. I will be in Mexico March 6. It is -31c here today. I am dreaming of hot weather and sand. I got my knitting picked out to take and I have downloaded books to my e-reader.

  19. Your Foxpaws is lovely! Enjoy your tome in Mexico! We were there (about 10 min north of Playa Del Carmen) in January, and the weather was perfect!

  20. Ha! It was a scorching 36 F/2 C here on Sunday and we were shedding jackets and mittens and enjoying the balmy weather. (It’s been several weeks since we got above freezing in the Boston metro area.). As warm as you are in Mexico- we’d probably have melted!

  21. I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both
equally educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you’ve hit
the nail on the head. The issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about.
I am very happy that I found this during my hunt
    for something regarding this.

  22. Excellent goods from you, man. I’ve be aware your
stuff previous to and you’re simply too excellent. I actually like what you’ve obtained right here, certainly like
what you are stating and the way in which you assert it.
You make it entertaining and you continue to care for to keep it sensible.
I cant wait to read much more from you. This is really a wonderful web site.
