A drive by from me – getting ready to go from Port Ludlow to Galiano Island for the Knit Social Retreat. (Then it’s home for a few days, then onto Minneapolis for Yarnover, and to teach at Fiber Fest. There’s room in those classes by the way – Yarnover is full, but the crew at StevenBe has room in the Knitting for Speed and Efficiency class, and in the Colour Theory class – they’re both fun.) In the meantime, allow me to entertain you with the amazing yarnbombings at the Resort this go around. The retreaters went above and beyond – and they’re totally charming. Enjoy.
They are so charming!
I am intrigued by the “ship in the bottle” – what a fun idea.
Must be easier with knitting because one can squish it together, jam it in the bottle, then use knitting needles to straighten it out. Can’t possible knit it in the bottle, can one?
Love the yarn bombs! Great job everyone!
Disguises for the wine corks! Not just adorable, but a charming way to hide the evidence.
They’re so cute – especially the duck with the hat. Did the yarn stay behind once the knitters had left?
Adorable!! I esp. liked the ducks (at least, I think they are ducks!)
Fabulous!!! wish I could have attended!
Amazing yarn bombing. Love the fire extinguisher!
I know, right?!
Yes – the first extinguisher had me smiling and then by the second my rickety old memory kicked into gear and the laughter burst forth! Splendid, Splendid!!
Yes! Tiny yarn extinguisher! Are we voting favorites?
So lovely! It must be such a wonderful experience at these retreats, you can decorate with yarn, and it’s appreciated!
Loving the photos. So wish I could attend your classes at StevenBe. Alas, children’s schedules get in the way again. (so frustrating when you are so close!)
The geese! Want the geese pattern!!
How fun! I’m especially loving the geese – so clever!
Cute. Cute. Cute. Duck hats ha! Cork caps -giggle!.
Made my morning to see this.
I know there’s some significance to the prevalence of corks.
But boy do I want the geese and the kitties.
Are those ducks or geese? Either way they are very impressive. And the fire extinguisher is just plain brilliant.
Delightful!
Lovely geese! And the duck with the hat – so cute!
Lovely geese! And the duck with the hat is adorable!
The knitted fire extinguishers made me laugh out loud! All the yarn bombing was fantastic, though – especially the duck’s hat. 🙂
Cats! Cats are nice :))
(Is there a pattern for these?)
I want the pattern too! So cute.
Maybe this? http://www.naturalsuburbia.com/2012/06/cat-knitting-pattern-and-tutorial.html
I found one called “Beans the Kitty” on ravelry…(sorry can’t post a link from work)
love (1)
What a nice way to start the day…now to figure out just how to make some of these little “bombs”!
When/where will the June retreat details be available?
Hi Amy, if you follow Strung Along on Facebook, all the details will go up there (and on Ravelry, and on my blog, and on Twitter) over the next several days. Or you can write to us at StrungAlong@yarnharlot.ca
so adorable
someone needs to make a little book with all the patterns and sell it for a charity MSF?
Great idea! I second it!
I second the call for the kitty pattern.
I love the fire extinguisher and the ship in a bottle. My grandfather always showed me ships that had been made to fit inside those (made out of wood and not yarn, and in a wine bottle) but they made me think of him. Thanks!
Wish I had the pattern for the goose’s cowl!
Usually, I don’t enjoy the look of yarn bombing, but these items are in a separate category. The goose and cats are quite charming. Patterns?
Tee Hee Hee. You kinneared yourself!
Those pictures put a smile in my face! Thank you nice way to start the day. I’ll be waving at you across the straight enjoy Galiano Island!
As Wayne and Garth said in Waynes world “I am unworthy!” Those yarn bombings are next level stuff.
I know Port Ludlow leaves the yarn bombings up for a while, but is the one on the chandelier over the stairs from a few years back still there? I’m curious if that is one that they bothered to take down given the challenge of getting it down…
Love the photos!
That one came down, but the story lives on. As in: “…one year, someone somehow bombed the chandelier… as fun as that is, please don’t risk your lives…”! 🙂
I hope someone keeps a photo album of the yarn bombings for each year…love, love, love it!
Hey! I see your geese Julie! Nicely done!
The fire extinguisher would be cool for my firefighter husband. They are all terrific…but the extinguisher is just a little more terrific.
…I particularly like those geese. Wish I could come to one of the events listed but money just is not there. Oh well. Maybe one day when money really does grow on trees…
bjr
We do so love it. And we ALL can related to this post soooo much. :^)
They are soooo cuuute! Especially love the goose. Thank you so much for sharing this. 🙂
So creative!
Oh, hahaha, I get the fire extinguisher! These are all stellar, but the hat on the (goose? duck?) is my favorite. I also wonder if that mysterious orb is still on the chandelier… And I fervently hope that someday I can come and see for myself!
Oh man! Those wee itty-bitty cats!!
I love the cats and the ship in a bottle….would love to knit both of those.
Ah, I miss Port Ludlow but the lure of the open waters was too strong. #thecatsheckledme #thegoosewassupportive #whereintheworldisbubblesludlow
The fire extinguishers!
And just above the swan… Now I have Harry Chapin’s Cat’s in the Cradle song going in my head.
Oh good grief.
Really love those knitted ducks – if they are ducks.
heehee utterly delightful! And you saved the best for last. Duck en chapeau is stunning!
This year’s crop of yarn art is adorable! I want to bomb the campus I work on. It would be so much fun. We have some interesting outdoor art and if I could get an accomplice, it would be great fun.
those are charming toys and creations. I also loved the tall had on the duck/goose – sweet endearing vignettes. they seemed out of fairy tales. thank you for sharing.
OMG totally adorable!
There are patterns on Ravelry for the little cork guys and the mushrooms and trees. I want the pattern for the tiny kitties!
The geese look kind of like this one:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/betsys-goose
1. Three pink wombats.
2. Ship in the bottle.
3. Pair of quails.
Frog that. Can’t choose from all the options.
The Yarn Bombing has crossed into the realm of public art! Real thought was put into these creations and I’m impressed!!
The pattern for the fire extinguisher http://frogqueenpuddle.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/nac-mac-feegles-figurative-fire-stopper.html
Thank you! :o)
Kitties! Kitties! Wee sleekit Kitties! Just love them.
I loved all of it but the picture of the little fire extinguisher on top of the fire extinguisher had me cracking up. Thanks Stephanie for the smile!
My chunky Korknisse! The pattern came out too big in Malabrigo Merino Worsted for my wine corks, but they fit prosecco corks just fine. (I brought corks with me; I’ve made this size before)
Lovely, lovely retreat. Thanks so much, Stephanie!
Oh, they’re all wonderful, but those little kitties are just precious. I’m not usually all about the cats, but… heh!
Fiber people have such imaginations!!!!
They are all charming!! I can’t even pick a favorite!
I agree with Judy, the three pink wombats are the best! They look as nutty as I feel these days. 🙂
Just to let y’all know… I dropped by Port Ludlow this afternoon (4/18) because I was in the area, and some of the yarn bombs are still there. An octopus and a red banner on a topiary ship outdoors, the duck with the red hat, the mallard duck, one of the cork disguises, and one that Steph didn’t photograph. Maybe some others, but those are the ones I saw. Knitting lives!
Aweomesauce
So sweet! I love that it is non-impact yarn-bombing; I always wonder about trees that get yarn-bombed, if anyone comes and takes it off before it impacts their growth. And the Port Ludlow yarn bombing is always so site-appropriate. Charming.
You have hit such a beautiful stretch of spring weather in the PNW. It’s not always like this in April.

Love the duck with hat any idea where the Canada geese pattern is?
This is the perfect site for anyone who would like to understand this
topic. You know a whole lot its almost hard to argue with you
(not that I personally would want to…HaHa). You definitely put a brand new spin on a topic that has been discussed for ages.
Excellent stuff, just excellent!
