Luis listens to Megan’s baby.

I made a million cookies, and piping icing is hard. (But I win, because they’re still cute.)

Ken is 51.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time with a peeler and made this tart. I thought I was crazy then Meg said “Oh Mum, I love pretty food!” and then it was all worth it.

Jen (knitter, cyclist, student midwife) brought her fetoscope. Best baby shower favour ever.

pato 2017-03-07

This picture is okay, but it’s not as good as the one I should have taken, which was 2 minutes later, when the baby moved, and Pato pretty much fell off a chair.

We are excited.  I am knitting.

  1. I am so, so happy for all of you. Wishing mother and baby good health and a safe delivery — and an extra 12 hours in every day for the new granny to spend with the baby.

  2. Such sweetness! Thank you for sharing the happy. The cookies are amazing! And that tart!! Stunning!
Ken is still rockin it at post 50.
That baby can’t help but be curious about all that excitement you know s/he’s going to show up early.
Knit Stephanie knit! The Winds of Woolyness are behind you!

  3. Oh! I was so careful to be gender neutral but I just realized all the cookies are blue!! So is this a reveal or was that the only color of food coloring in the house and you weren’t going to get on the bus for a little bit of food coloring when you only need a drop or two and that’s wasting precious time with everything you have to do for the shower and that cuts into knitting time and there’s still all those things you need to do for Strungalong and that baby better not come early….lol

  4. Thank you for sharing your lovely pictures. I should send a present since I feel like I was there. We will definitely not expect more posts since I’ll bet you’re knitting around the clock. May the blanket be finished soon because I don’t think that little fellow is going to wait too much longer.

  5. Dearest Meg,

On behalf of The Blog, I would like to extend our gratitude for allowing so many of us to share in your joy during this amazing time in your life. Your mum’s magnetic personality and clever way with words and pictures have — dare I say it?– knit us firmly into your family.

We wish you all good things in the days and weeks to come, and if it should happen that your mum suffers a wee breakdown over the baby’s blanket, please do let us know. In detail.

    Love always,
    Presbytera

  6. We have our 5th grand baby making her appearance in the next week. It is amazing and awesome and never gets old and boring. Enjoy!

  7. What gorgeous snapshots of your family’s life. Expecting a little one is such a precious time. Best wishes to you and yours~

  8. Happy birthday Ken, amazing cookies and tarts, and Megan is just glowing and even more beautiful than usual, if that is possible. Happy familying to you all!

  9. Meg and Steph, thanks for sharing these intimate moments with The Blog. Wishing you a speedy and safe delivery and a healthy baby boy.

  10. So glad everything went well, and you may just have a second career decorating cakes and cookies in a bakery! BUT…knit faster! It doesn’t look like that baby is going to wait for you!

  11. I am loving all of this so, SO MUCH! Choking up just thinking about that Little Person about to join the family. I am a total sucker for babies. Sending love to all of you!

  12. Ha, ha. Pato falling off a chair! I totally understand. Hard to believe there’s actually a person in there. And you won’t believe the love you’ll feel for that person when it joins the outside world.

Thanks for sharing this with us–just lovely.

  13. Hi Stephanie, congratulations to your family.
Are you able or willing to share the tart recipe.
    It is very pretty!
    Thank you

  14. WHAT. You are clearly a fierce queen in the kitchen.

Also so lovely to see all this happiness in your lovely family.

    • I was wondering that too. I’ve been going over possible “E” names. Ethan, Edward, Eli, Evan but I think I like Eliot best (1 L and 1 T) 🙂

      • Elliot appears to be his name. One of the cookies has it spelled out.

I can’t wait to see a photo of Elliot wrapped in the (finished) blanket crafted by his gran!

  15. I have read this blog since my own now-13 year old baby was tiny, and I probably haven’t commented in a decade because you’re so swamped, but I just had to say: that is one happy looking couple of parents-to-be. I am rejoicing from afar with your family’s happy event.

  16. Thank you for such a beautiful post! It feels so good to share the happiness with so many people and from so many places. Congrats to all of you.

And yes, thanks to Megan for allowing us all to share a bit in this exciting time.

  25. oh! I am welling up as I scroll through this post. The cookies are a work of art. Meg’s love of your effort with the tart is such a rewarding mom moment. The welcoming circle of love for the new arrival. It couldn’t be more perfect. xo

  26. Everything looks just lovely. And the happiness is so obvious! I am envious of your cookie decorating skills (among your countless others, and would love to know more about the tart!

  27. The cookies, the tart, the BABY BELLY, the love! Just Wow! That would have been fun to see Pato falling off the chair. 🙂 Wishing all of you the best!

  28. I’m reading this on March 8, which happens to be MY baby’s birthday. He’s 22 now but seeing these pictures reminds me of the joy I experienced back then. I wish her a healthy, happy baby and so many wonderful memories to make it the years to come! <3

  29. Dear Megan,

Thank you SO much for sharing this with the blog – I think we are almost as excited as your family is (though nothing can win over a new baby truly in the family). I wish you much happiness, easy labour vibes (or easy section vibes if it needs to go that way), and blissful sleep and a calm baby.

I surely can’t be the only one checking EVERY DAY for progress!

  30. Oh, WELL DONE, YOU!! Those cookies are an amazing first go – AMAZING! From one cookie baker to another, I’m proud of you, my friend.
The rest are lovely and adorable, particularly Luis listening to the fetoscope and Pato grinning so wide.
    Happy Birthday, Ken!!

  31. Wow! Not only are you a great knitter, but an absolute artiste in the kitchen. The cookies look so professional and the tart is a just gorgeous. Good luck to all of you, and to a lucky baby to be surrounded by so much love.

  32. I am ferklempt! Those cookies came out way better than I could imagine. You can do anything!
I am a new Grandma (10 month old boy/girl twins) I can’t tell you how wonderful it is!!! After the babies were born I walked into the grocery store and wondered “why don’t any of these people know that I am a grandma now!!!!”
The cool thing is you are so good with words. I know you will be able to tell everyone so beautifully how wonderful being a grandma is!!!!

  33. Ok I’ll bite, what’s with the “E” on some cookies? Has he been named Evan or Ewan or Eddy? Congrats to all.

  34. I think that you are going to have a new knitting challenge – how to knit while holding that new grandchild!!! You are not going to want to put him/her down!

Those cookies are beautiful – after all the work that you put into them, I am not sure I would let anyone eat them. And the curled veggies – so creative!!!

  35. You just astound me with your cookie making abilities! Beautiful family! That baby will be showered with love.

  36. This entire post made me well up with tears of pure happiness. What an incredible time for your family. I’ve never met any of you, and I feel like I know you all!
Sending all of my best wishes for the joyous times ahead. xo

  37. Meg, best of wishes to you and your husband! And thank you for letting your Mum share with the Blog.

Stephanie, I am GOBSMACKED by those cookies – you sure you haven’t done this before? I do sugar cookies with “fancy” icing several times a year and am just beginning to feel semi-competent. Yours are marvelous! And the tart is beautiful, and the fetoscope gets the award for best shower “game” ever.

  38. If there was a “love” button on your blog I’d be breaking it right now – the cookies and Meg and . . . just everything. <3

  39. Those are fabulous cookies! Excellent job, Mum! 🙂

Megan, thanks for letting us share in your baby shower and the wonder of hearing and feeling the baby!

  40. Presypeteria said it best! Thank you to all, I don’t have many relatives and it gives me so much love to be here thank you. I think you have at least 6 weeks Steph, that’s the comfiest looking baby I’ve ever seen! He ‘ll want to lounge around as long as possible I think! Lots of love to a wonderful family!

  41. How very, very exciting! I went through this 18 months ago when my daughter had my Grandson. It’s all so precious and wonderful!!!!

  42. When you have time (no rush! I know the life of a knitting soon-to-be-grandma is crazy) please link a recipe for the tart!

Best wishes to all in the yarn-harlot family. <3

  44. I got a bit teary reading this because I’ve been reading your blog from the beginning and have watched your daughters grow up, and now here is Meg, beautifully pregnant and happy. What lovely pictures! And after you get the blanket done, could you post the recipe for that tart?

Being a grandmother is totally awesome.

  45. Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us. Know that we (the blog) wish you and your lovely family well, always.

  46. Bestill my heart. Such lovely photos and such a beautiful mom! The joy and excitement you all are feeling about your new family member is palpable!

  48. What a privilege to be able to watch your children grow and now begin their own families. Thank you for sharing. Also, how on earth do you have the energy to do all that you do? That was some party.

  50. Oh, my goodness! Wonderful! Every bit of it! I knew you were amazingly talented in the fiber deapartment, but holy cow those cookies and that tart! Now I know you are just simply amazingly talented period! Congratulations to the family! SO much love for that little one to share in!

  51. I simply ADORE Meg’s facial expressions but especially in the first picture with Louis. It’s fantastic! Thanks for sharing your life with us1

  52. Your comment about Pato about falling off his chair when the baby moved reminded me of some co-workers. One lady was very pregnant. At breaktime she was sitting with a group, one of whom was a devilishly handsome 22 year old man whose natural complexion could be described as ‘ghost’. The baby rolled over. I never knew a ghost could get any more pale, but he did. I think that safe sex became a big priority for him in that moment.
