Replace the snow with cold driving rain and we have a similar narrative. I managed to follow the rule and not add anything to the list... until last night when I whipped up a pair of Maine Morning Mitts for a friend who is having us to dinner tonight (so no need for groceries today, but what about tomorrow?) The mitts are currently drying on the radiator. Yarn: Debbie Bliss Donegal Luxury Tweed - less than 1 skein.

Perhaps someone should go with you to make sure you don't get eaten by a snowbank. Then they could go get the groceries while you look for a zipper. It's more efficient that way. :D

Merry Christmas! I was just about finished sewing the kids' Christmas jammies, when I found the pair I made my husband to match *last year's* Christmas jammies. All it needs is elastic in the waist and hemmed and I'll be all caught up from last year! I (Rather Smartly, I think) decided that the holiday knitting would be given for Hanukkah gifts (we celebrate both here) so I still have 4 more days to knit 3 more kid size mittens. Have a Joyous and Peaceful Christmas!

Incline planes (zippers) are optional...... esp on a snowy, Christmas Eve. The IMPORTANT part has been done. I'm sure the recipient will understand. Then, of course, if groceries are needed, I'm sure a certain elf won't be upset to stop by and retrieve a much-needed incline plane and help out Santa.

The only real problems I see are the groceries and the wrapping. In the interest of the environment (yeah, *that's* it!), forgo wrapping. And order in. Ta-daaa! Problems solved.

I stayed up late cursing the unfinished knits and frantically knitting in the dark, but I'm only about 3 knitting hours away from making it. We did it. Again.

How lucky to have a white Christmas! My son just noted that this is the 15-billionth time it HASN'T been a white Christmas here! Last time it was, he was still in my belly! Guess he wouldn't remember that one, eh? Merry Chrismtas!!! :O)

Your house sounds a lot like mine. Things knitted, not wrapped. I just sent two children to the grocery store, and the oldest son is also doing his Christmas shopping. He lives in Brooklyn, but comes to Massena, which has a not very good little mall, to do his shopping. It makes me smile. The last two children are on their way home as I type this. Once they get here, my Christmas will be complete, no matter what gets wrapped, baked or what knitting gets finished. (I realized last night at about 11 that I needed to knit one more pair of socks for Christmas)

Hank is a very intelligent and thoughtful boy. You guys must have had a great time together. There was a story in the news recently about a lady in Oakville who disappeared in the snow and wasn't found for three days. She was okay, but frostbitten. So be careful out there. The sweater is lovely, and looks so soft and almost velour-like. The recipient (Hank?) is very lucky.

Merry Christmas! I still have 1-1/2 pink glittery legwarmers to finish (but they're for an 8yo so they're shortish and skinny), 4 partial thumbs (for 2 pr of fingerless mitts), and a couple mini Santa hats. All are do-able. I also have to run out and pick up a bicycle to put under the tree (which my husband and 8yo are picking up now- I have a small procrastination problem that I keep meaning to work on). The bike isn't for the 8yo but it is meant to be from Santa whom the 8yo still firmly believes in and there just aren't that many places to hide a teen-size bike for more than a day or two so I'm holding firm that having to go out and pick up the bike on Christmas Eve is NOT yet another example of procrastination. Oh, also have to bake a new roof for the gingerbread house as the dog ate the first one. Right off the house. HoHoHo!

Sounds very much like my Christmas Eve. When will I learn to not stress myself out by planning too many knitted gifts? Good thing it's only once/year.

The Christmas stockings knit....finished last night. Instead of cleaning the kitchen this morning I started a hat with the left overs from the stockings. *laughing* The kitchen is thrashed. We still have cookies to frost, a pie to bake and the hubby has decided to try his hand at making maple cream candy. What will Santa say when he sees the mess tonight? (And we have hours of wrapping to accompolish. All the distant relatives have sent their gifts unwrapped to save on money, and with little kids we couldn't wrap them as they came in - otherwise they would have been rewrapped multiple times! Our friends laugh at our Christmas tree with no gifts under it and no ornaments from the 3 foot down mark. The 2 year old learned how to 'bat' two weeks ago - you can guess what happened to those ornaments.)

My husband is taking the boys to the BIG TREAT SLEDDING HILL after dinner to tire them out. I've conceded the oldest boys sweater until the weekend and the socks until New Years. While the kids are at the sledding hill I have to sort stocking stuffers and knit the sleeve on the baby's sweater... and find the mittens I knit for my niece 2 months ago... and then I'm done...

At least your presents are pretty much done. I had only one present to finish, I mean knit, this month,and yet here I am with only half a mitten when I should have two finished mittens. Ah well, these mitts have seem to have become a fixed part of my room, so I guess it's okay that they hang around for ANOTHER year.

Merry Christmas Steph, and to all the readers! Here's hoping next year will be the where we all finish the gifts early!

I'm with those above me who said "If you have 1/100th of the joy and delight that you provide to ME every day, it'll be a very fine day indeed." As a celebrator of ChristmaChanuKwanzaaka (and a God Yul to you too) we generally have fun one way or another...but True Confession: I don't give knitted presents. I give **COUPONS** for knitted items. {this is me with a wicked grin} :o)

I bought those reusable "green" bags and put presents in them. A little tape across the top seals them. The solid recycled poly ones can even be used as mailing envelopes! :-)
Also, late as it is, I vote the person with the least to do gets the groceries.

Have a safe and warm Christmas and good luck with the wrapping. I finished wrapping yesterday but suffered an injury that may interfere with knitting, a blister on the thumb that holds the yards and yards and YARDS of curling ribbon against the scissors blade.

But my packages have lovely tiers and tiers of curly ribbons, much of it sparkly. I'm allowed much sparkly at Christmas. It makes up (somewhat) for not having white at Christmas.

happy Knitter dance! I have finished my last thing to be knit for the holidays at 2pm this afternoon. After prepping stuff for the big deal meals of tomorrow, I have mixed a festive cocktail (blood orange soda with vodka) & am going to sit next to the tree & cast on a pair of socks for myself. I cannot remember the last time I made socks for me, so I figured it was about time.

Merry Christmas! I may miss my Christmas traditions because the roads here are impassable. I had to take the bus to work and even the buses have had to detour. When you live on the side of a mountain you have hills of doom. But I can live vicariously, knowing many people will enjoy the fruits of your labours and somewhere there are people who can walk to where they're going without worrying about slipping and breaking a hip (as happened to someone I know who tried to get off a bus yesterday - big mistake)

Just want to say thank you for being there. I have read your books and blogs since my mom was diagnosed with cancer and passed away about a year and a half ago. I don't think you realize what a pick me up your writing gives people. Holidays can be tough yet I get through them by knitting and reading your entries. You are the last thing I read as I head to bed on Christmas Eve! Merry, Merry Christmas!

It is 12:35 a.m. on Christmas morning. I am still wrapping gifts. I didn't knit anything for Christmas this year (last year made dishcloths for the folks I work with) and am somewhat sad that I didn't. I kind of feel like Mack from the Pixar movie "Cars", because my husband told me he'd stay up late wrapping with me, and he's currently passed out, sawing the proverbial logs. ::sigh::

Stephanie and family, I hope you have one of the best holidays ever. I'll gladly share some of your white stuff, as right now we have rain/freezing rain/ice. Bleh.

As for wrapping presents, I'm doing that this morning (Christmas morning at 4:45am!) I'm always better doing that kind of stuff in the morning rather than the evening! As for knitting, I still have a Noro Yarn Crack scarf and a half to finish, and a 2x2 ribbed hat! SIGH! I swear that this year I'm going to find small cool projects that really interest me, knit them ahead of time and stockpile them to divvy up later as Christmas presents. Of course I think I've said that before LOL! I hope you and yours have a wonderful day full of family, friends, love and peace.

Merry Christmas! Although I was freaking out a bit about it, I sort of enjoyed finishing the last thumb on Molly's mittens at 11:30 last night. I knew how many other knitters were up finishing projects and it made me feel like a very small part of something very big.

Hi, I'm a bad knitter (I love doing it, but profound discalcula makes most of the technical side tricky) and I got lucky this Christmas - my bro got me scarf kit. The wool's horrible, but bamboo needles! They look like 6mm sort of thickness and I've already made a scarf on them. I am a total bamboo convert, so much more comfy than metal.

P.S I'm being brave and trying out a 'pattern' for the first time in my knitting life. I'm making slippers. This is all your fault, making me try to grow as a knitter. Happy yule season!
