White Christmas here, but then in the mountains of Colorado it's been white for weeks and won't change until May or June.

Steph and family, Merry Christmas and happy wrapping! I got a much-needed assist when I _found_ the presents I hid, and don't have to finish wrapping til tonight (after driving 300 miles). HUGS from California ;) (the Sock-Shaped State)

4 more inches on husband's sock to do and then I'm doooooone! :D

Merry Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas Stephanie and Family!

Replace the snow with cold driving rain and we have a similar narrative. I managed to follow the rule and not add anything to the list... until last night when I whipped up a pair of Maine Morning Mitts for a friend who is having us to dinner tonight (so no need for groceries today, but what about tomorrow?) The mitts are currently drying on the radiator. Yarn: Debbie Bliss Donegal Luxury Tweed - less than 1 skein.

Your posts are like little pieces of candy, without the calories. Thanks for keeping us in stitches all year long!

Posted by tree at December 24, 2008 11:55 AM

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!! Looks like you got our White Christmas. I'm sure the little bit we got will melt before tomorrow. Good luck on the zipper. Perhaps someone should go with you to make sure you don't get eaten by a snowbank. Then they could go get the groceries while you look for a zipper. It's more efficient that way. :D

Posted by Chelsea the Yarngeek at December 24, 2008 11:58 AM

Merry Christmas to you too Stephanie! I finished all my knitting this morning, and have just baked a batch of mince pies! (Do you have them in Canada?) Lucky you having a white Christmas! I know you have so much snow that it becomes a nuisance, but it snows so rarely here in the UK that it would be lovely to have snow at Christmas just once. Good luck with the rest of your knitting schedule! I have my needles crossed that you get done in time.

Posted by Helen at December 24, 2008 12:04 PM

Good:It is Christmas Eve and all but two gifts are sewn.Another hour and I could be done. Bad:The past two snow storms combined with today's all day rain event equals a leaking roof.In three different places. Two of which are in my sewing/crafting room.*sigh* Merry Christmas!

Stephanie, the sweater looks lovely as does the scarf - there are some lucky people on your gift list! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thank you for the stories all year round, I certainly have enjoyed them!

By the way, my daughter (now 12) just shared a story with us the other day...when she was "little" she thought that if it didn't snow there wouldn't be Christmas. Looks like you all don't have to worry about that! Sadly, here in central Ohio its just rain, rain, rain.....(I'm pretty sure we will still have Christmas though!).

Posted by Julie at December 24, 2008 12:11 PM

Merry Christmas Stephanie! My mom's sweater is going to go in a box with the remaining yarn with the excuse "I didn't know if you wanted full length or 3/4 length sleeves on your cardigan". I too have nothing wrapped but am about to go pawn my kidlins off at my folks for 2 hours so I don't have to stay up all night and miss Santa. Good luck with your last two scarves and the grocery/zipper trip. I can sympathize as I'm dreading going out for eggs (I'm just around the bay from you in the Hammer).

By the way, I just checked in to see where Santa is. As I write this, he's in Russia, so he has a way to go before he reaches you all on the other side of the Pond! But if the knitting goes on longer than you thought, then keep tabs and sneak up to bed with just minutes to spare!

Happy Christmas to you and Joe and the kids Steph! May your knitting go smoothly and upon return from the store for zippers and food may the house be clean and all presents wrapped (this seems like a fair trade-off).

Thanks for being awesome and making me smile and think.

Merry Christmas! And thanks for your writing -- a bright spot in my day, always!

Merry Christmas! I was just about finished sewing the kids' Christmas jammies, when I found the pair I made my husband to match *last year's* Christmas jammies. All it needs is elastic in the waist and hemmed and I'll be all caught up from last year! I (Rather Smartly, I think) decided that the holiday knitting would be given for Hanukkah gifts (we celebrate both here) so I still have 4 more days to knit 3 more kid size mittens. Have a Joyous and Peaceful Christmas!

Incline planes (zippers) are optional...... esp on a snowy, Christmas Eve. The IMPORTANT part has been done. I'm sure the recipient will understand. Then, of course, if groceries are needed, I'm sure a certain elf won't be upset to stop by and retrieve a much-needed incline plane and help out Santa.

Merry Christmas to all in your home. Steph, thanks for making my days happier because of your almost-daily posts.

Blessings!

I stayed up late cursing the unfinished knits and frantically knitting in the dark, but I'm only about 3 knitting hours away from making it. We did it. Again.

Your house sounds a lot like mine. Things knitted, not wrapped. I just sent two children to the grocery store, and the oldest son is also doing his Christmas shopping. He lives in Brooklyn, but comes to Massena, which has a not very good little mall, to do his shopping. It makes me smile. The last two children are on their way home as I type this. Once they get here, my Christmas will be complete, no matter what gets wrapped, baked or what knitting gets finished. (I realized last night at about 11 that I needed to knit one more pair of socks for Christmas)

Enjoy your family and friends, and the happiest of Christmases to you and all you love.

Merry Christmas Eve to you too! We are also snowbound, also have the nuclear family reunited under one roof, but did manage to get groceries yesterday, so are able to contemplate dinner with a sense of calm. And my gift knitting is all done, but only because I was exceedingly unambitious both in quantity and complexity. Works for me!

Hank is a very intelligent and thoughtful boy. You guys must have had a great time together. There was a story in the news recently about a lady in Oakville who disappeared in the snow and wasn't found for three days. She was okay, but frostbitten. So be careful out there. The sweater is lovely, and looks so soft and almost velour-like. The recipient (Hank?) is very lucky.

Merry Christmas! I still have 1-1/2 pink glittery legwarmers to finish (but they're for an 8yo so they're shortish and skinny), 4 partial thumbs (for 2 pr of fingerless mitts), and a couple mini Santa hats. All are do-able. I also have to run out and pick up a bicycle to put under the tree (which my husband and 8yo are picking up now- I have a small procrastination problem that I keep meaning to work on). The bike isn't for the 8yo but it is meant to be from Santa whom the 8yo still firmly believes in and there just aren't that many places to hide a teen-size bike for more than a day or two so I'm holding firm that having to go out and pick up the bike on Christmas Eve is NOT yet another example of procrastination. Oh, also have to bake a new roof for the gingerbread house as the dog ate the first one. Right off the house. HoHoHo!

You have my sympathy with the zipper. I bought one for a cardigan, got home, realized it was not a separating zipper. Back to the store, made sure it was a separating zipper, got home, realized there was no zipper pull. Back to the store, checked everything and finally had success. I wish much success on your venture out and a very Merry Christmas! Jeanne

The Christmas stockings knit....finished last night. Instead of cleaning the kitchen this morning I started a hat with the left overs from the stockings. *laughing* The kitchen is thrashed. We still have cookies to frost, a pie to bake and the hubby has decided to try his hand at making maple cream candy. What will Santa say when he sees the mess tonight? (And we have hours of wrapping to accompolish. All the distant relatives have sent their gifts unwrapped to save on money, and with little kids we couldn't wrap them as they came in - otherwise they would have been rewrapped multiple times! Our friends laugh at our Christmas tree with no gifts under it and no ornaments from the 3 foot down mark. The 2 year old learned how to 'bat' two weeks ago - you can guess what happened to those ornaments.)

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. Thank you for all that you do in the knitting world - it is greatly amusing to me *grin* and greatly appreciated all round. Thank you!

Good: It's summer here but the weather's not stinking hot for a change.
Bad: It's summer and nobody wants handknits for Christmas.
Good: I can throw in a random pair of socks that the daughter might like.
Bad: The socks can only be the B side of the present.
Good: Christmas lunch is at her house again this year.
Bad: Still haven't finished wrapping the gifts.
Good: Finished glazing the ham last night.
Bad: Suddenly remembered that I haven't "Finished" that cross stitch ornament that she requested for her tree this year.
Good: I only have one offspring, my husband doesn't really *do* Christmas, and it's only 7:10am on Christmas morning so we don't have to leave for another 2 hours. Easy peasy!

Merry Christmas from Australia!

You did long sleeves? So proud! One thing I love about girl sweaters is when you get the wrong zipper you can do a ribbon through the top (if the girl is young enough) and it saves approximately 412 hours of zipper sewing.

15cm? You Canadians with your crazy, logical metric system!
I'm in the Portland, OR area and there are some parts with 2 feet of snow and they are expecting more today. We are very unequipped to deal with this kind of weather and the entire city as ground to a halt. Its most definitely affecting my Christmas plans.

But we know you can do it with loads of caffeine and no sleep at all! Next year I'm hiring Lene!

Merry Christmas, Stephanie! I just finished two scarves with moments to spare, so I can empathize with the "down to the wire" feeling, esp. when my spouse is telling me everything has to be wrapped today....

Bless you and yours this holiday. It is reassuring to know (via your blog)that one is not alone in the madness of life as a working, knitting, mothering, partnered(married or otherwise) woman on this planet!

My husband is taking the boys to the BIG TREAT SLEDDING HILL after dinner to tire them out. I've conceded the oldest boys sweater until the weekend and the socks until New Years. While the kids are at the sledding hill I have to sort stocking stuffers and knit the sleeve on the baby's sweater... and find the mittens I knit for my niece 2 months ago... and then I'm done...

Well

until tomorrow.

And only with the knitting. Let's not talk about wrapping.

I'm so impressed!
Is it wrong that I'm excited that we have a 6 hour drive from North Bay to South Western Ontario at midnight (after hubbie gets done work) ONLY becasue that gives me 6 straight hours of knitting? What? I only have a Fleece Artist skinny scarf and a Fishy hat to finish, no problem!

Merry Christmas! We'll honk as we pass over head on the 401! haha

I have to admit I wimped out and came south to Texas at the last minute (I missed my Mom). It's really rough because it was only 58 degrees F here today. It's a cold spell. (Considering when I left Illinois it was -18 F with wind chill, I'm being questioned about my motives.) I still insiste my motives are pure - I missed my Mom! Happy Christmas to you and your family.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Stephanie, and good luck with the last scarf!
I still need to knit a couple of inches of beaded i-cord to make into earrings (which I think I can do between dinner at a restaurant at 6, and church services at 9)--and then I'll be done. No gifting of WIP this year!

Posted by Lisa Hughes at December 24, 2008 5:28 PM

happy holidays to you as well! not as bad as toronto, I'm sure, but I'll let you know that Seattle (lovely green as it usually is), is under nearly a foot of snow right now -- most we've had in these parts in about 15 years.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. Enjoy the snow, it's rained here all day and the water is rising. If this had been snow, we might have rivaled Toronto.

Merry Christmas and thanks for entertaining me all year. I was going to go back and count JUST HOW MANY pairs of socks you made in 2008, but let's just leave it at 'way more than I'll make in my lifetime', because I think I'd rather go make yeast rolls. Head down, I believe there's a storm headed your way. And nice job on wrapping up the knitting in time ... again.

Posted by Becky at December 24, 2008 6:16 PM

Wow... that seriously sucks with the snow business. Seriously. I'm glad I live in climates that don't allow for snow. XD

I have 34 minutes to finish wrapping 27 presents, vacuum the house, and clean the downstairs bathroom (I know there's a toilet under there somewhere) before I have to start dinner if it's going to be done before the Christmas Eve guests arrive. So I'm reading blogs.

Merry Christmas!

At least your presents are pretty much done. I had only one present to finish, I mean knit, this month, and yet here I am with only half a mitten when I should have two finished mittens. Ah well, these mitts have seem to have become a fixed part of my room, so I guess it's okay that they hang around for ANOTHER year.

Merry Christmas Steph, and to all the readers! Here's hoping next year will be the where we all finish the gifts early!

I'll go read my predecessors later - but Stephanie? I DO hope that you and Joe and the girls (and cat...daren't forget the cat) have a truly wonderful holiday season. I'm with those above me who said "If you have 1/100th of the joy and delight that you provide to ME every day, it'll be a very fine day indeed." As a celebrator of ChristmaChanuKwanzaaka (and a God Yul to you too) we generally have fun one way or another...but True Confession: I don't give knitted presents. I give **COUPONS** for knitted items. {this is me with a wicked grin} :o)

Merry Christmas, Steph! Lovely meeting you twice this year.
I bought those reusable "green" bags and put presents in them. A little tape across the top seals them. The solid recycled poly ones can even be used as mailing envelopes! :-)
Also, late as it is, I vote the person with the least to do gets the groceries.

Have a safe and warm Christmas and good luck with the wrapping. I finished wrapping yesterday but suffered an injury that may interfere with knitting, a blister on the thumb that holds the yards and yards and YARDS of curling ribbon against the scissors blade.

But my packages have lovely tiers and tiers of curly ribbons, much of it sparkly. I'm allowed much sparkly at Christmas. It makes up (somewhat) for not having white at Christmas.

Peace and Joy,

happy Knitter dance! I have finished my last thing to be knit for the holidays at 2pm this afternoon. After prepping stuff for the big deal meals of tomorrow, I have mixed a festive cocktail (blood orange soda with vodka) & am going to sit next to the tree & cast on a pair of socks for myself. I cannot remember the last time I made socks for me, so I figured it was about time.

Merry Christmas! I may miss my Christmas traditions because the roads here are impassable. I had to take the bus to work and even the buses have had to detour. When you live on the side of a mountain you have hills of doom. But I can live vicariously, knowing many people will enjoy the fruits of your labours and somewhere there are people who can walk to where they're going without worrying about slipping and breaking a hip (as happened to someone I know who tried to get off a bus yesterday - big mistake)

It is 12:35 a.m. on Christmas morning. I am still wrapping gifts. I didn't knit anything for Christmas this year (last year made dishcloths for the folks I work with) and am somewhat sad that I didn't. I kind of feel like Mack from the Pixar movie "Cars", because my husband told me he'd stay up late wrapping with me, and he's currently passed out, sawing the proverbial logs. ::sigh::

Stephanie and family, I hope you have one of the best holidays ever. I'll gladly share some of your white stuff, as right now we have rain/freezing rain/ice. Bleh.

Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family! I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who had to force herself to go and get groceries LOL! As for wrapping presents, I'm doing that this morning (Christmas morning at 4:45am!) I'm always better doing that kind of stuff in the morning rather than the evening! As for knitting, I still have a Noro Yarn Crack scarf and a half to finish, and a 2x2 ribbed hat! SIGH! I swear that this year I'm going to find small cool projects that really interest me, knit them ahead of time and stockpile them to divvy up later as Christmas presents. Of course I think I've said that before LOL! I hope you and yours have a wonderful day full of family, friends, love and peace.

I'm the only one up yet (can you tell we don't have children?) and am supposed to do some breakfast baking. Ha!

A very merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! Although I was freaking out a bit about it, I sort of enjoyed finishing the last thumb on Molly's mittens at 11:30 last night. I knew how many other knitters were up finishing projects and it made me feel like a very small part of something very big.

Hi, I'm a bad knitter (I love doing it, but profound discalcula makes most of the technical side tricky) and I got lucky this Christmas - my bro got me scarf kit. The wool's horrible, but bamboo needles! They look like 6mm sort of thickness and I've already made a scarf on them. I am a total bamboo convert, so much more comfy than metal.

P.S I'm being brave and trying out a 'pattern' for the first time in my knitting life. I'm making slippers. This is all your fault, making me try to grow as a knitter. Happy yule season!
