Gorgeous!
Posted by Carolyn at April 9, 2010 12:26 PMYes, they are back. My 25 yr old daughter living in Chicago asked for a pair this winter - so they must be hip again. Have fun at sock camp!
Posted by Sue at April 9, 2010 12:29 PMLovely.
Posted by Elysbeth at April 9, 2010 12:29 PMSOOOOOOO wish I was at sock camp with you guys - take lots of pictures so all of us who hate missing out on fun can live vicariously through you!
Posted by Jill at April 9, 2010 12:30 PMCAN I BE YOUR SISTER? JUST FOR A WHILE??
Posted by Montana at April 9, 2010 12:31 PMAND........ they're green ;)
And yes, babies wear them, too. I loved them on my youngest girlie! www.babylegs.com
Posted by Melissa at April 9, 2010 12:34 PMThanks for the fashion heads up. I'll have to make some for craft shows.
Happy knitting
Those are pretty awesome legwarmers, but I admit my first question was "where do I get a pair of those boots???"
Posted by Christina at April 9, 2010 12:46 PMI would agree that they are back on a limited scale and only for those without cankles. The pair you knit are lovely. Lucky sister.
Posted by Carmen at April 9, 2010 12:52 PMLovely! And what about those lavender boots?
Posted by Martha in Kansas at April 9, 2010 12:52 PMLove the legwarmers. Gives me an idea for my daughter's upcoming college graduation.
Of course, the last thing I need is more projects in my queue.
Posted by Jamie at April 9, 2010 12:52 PM... and it's green? here all along, i thought "catchup" was red...
Posted by Sare at April 9, 2010 1:02 PMSo cute! And thanks for the fashion heads up, I never have any idea what's in style, but I've always liked the way legwarmers look. :)
Posted by Kathy Gleason at April 9, 2010 1:03 PMNooooo! Back, legwarmers, back to the eighties where you belong!
Posted by Beth at April 9, 2010 1:03 PMDude, with the green! ;) Beautiful pattern, beautifully knit. Kick butt boots too.
Posted by Deborah in NC, USA at April 9, 2010 1:06 PMI don't think I'm too bothered by legwarmers coming back. I think it is the big hair from the 80s that I'm hoping never returns! Though I'm sure that where I grew up in Maine that it hasn't ever left.
Posted by Seanna Lea at April 9, 2010 1:09 PMNice Boots! (Oh and the legwarmers are pretty cool too!)
Posted by Jajigirl at April 9, 2010 1:10 PMMy entire sense of fashion (or lack thereof) is gleaned from knitting magazines and Ravelry. If those sources are at all amiss, I will likely never know the difference.
Posted by Permission to Unwind at April 9, 2010 1:17 PMthose are beautiful!
Posted by Valeriej at April 9, 2010 1:24 PMNice :). Erin's hip, if her shoes and jeans are anything to go by.
also...looks like we now know when your green phase REALLY started, don't we? Just sayin'....
Posted by vb at April 9, 2010 1:24 PMI don't know... I made fun of legwarmers a LOT after having worn them myself when I was in grade six or so... Plus, my calves don't really need an extra layer... guess I'll just admire from afar and worry about whether neon mesh vests and side of the head ponytails are going to swing back onto the fashion scene or not... !!
Posted by Jen at April 9, 2010 1:29 PMI love this look! I covet both the leg warmers and the boots. Covet covet covet.
Posted by Kathleen at April 9, 2010 1:37 PMWith legwarmers, nobody can tell if you have cankles! Legwarmers mean you don't have to have jeans two sizes bigger to go over the wool longjohns. The selling point isn't fashion, it's how cold it is, but since they show, it's worth the effort to make them pretty.
Posted by =Tamar at April 9, 2010 1:42 PMI dig those. Love the color and the design.
Posted by Dianna at April 9, 2010 1:43 PMHas Meg asked for a pair yet? If so, then we really know they're cool....
I asked my 18 year old DD if she wanted a pair of legwarmers back when you first blogged about Erin's pair and she said she would only wear a pair for 'Back to the 80s' day at school. Just wait until she starts walking around a cold college campus next winter.... maybe she'll think they are a good idea then. I have some Heilo in a wonderful teal color....
Posted by sue at April 9, 2010 1:44 PMLove them! Love the boots too.
Posted by Sarah at April 9, 2010 1:45 PMThis is vindication for those of us who never really admitted that legwarmers were out. I figured that if Sally Melville could put a pattern in a book, that was good enough for me. Yours are a little fancier- lucky sister!
Posted by Judy G. at April 9, 2010 1:49 PMHey Stephanie,
I heard on NPR yesterday of a museum in Toronto opening a big exhibit about SOCKS! I think you should go and blog about it for us.
Oh, they're gorgeous! How much Riverstone did they take? I have a big jumble of Riverstone skeins in my stash--bought 'em the last time Webs put them on sale--and am desperate for one- or several-skein projects for them. Something tells me these took more than one skein, though.
Enjoy sock heaven!
Please tell me those weren't made specifically to go with those boots!!!
Posted by brook at April 9, 2010 2:18 PMYour knitting is beautiful. And you gave of yourself. But. . .no thanks on the legwarmers--not that you offerred me any! Enjoyed the post anyway--always do.
Posted by Deborah at April 9, 2010 2:19 PMWow!! Legwarmers-5 stars!!! Boots-at least 5 stars!!! Together-wow!!!!
apologies: Sung to the tune of Way Down South In Dixie.
Way out west in the land of Sock Camp
Old techniques are not forgotten.
Look away, look away, look away, Sock Camp land.
I wish I were at Sock Camp, hurray, hurray!
In Ludlow Port I'd take my stand
To knit and dye at Sock Camp.
Hurray, hurray, away out west at Sock Camp.
Hurray, hurray, away out west at Sock Camp!(sigh-didn't happen.).Cheers and red wine, Hazel.
Love those boots! Also love the legwarmers, but the boots are very cool!
Posted by Joyce at April 9, 2010 2:31 PMI'd love for there to be house-elves, just think of the knitting time that would free up, doh ...
just think how nice the house would look despite the knitting!
Socks\legwarmers look yummylicious (did you see I struggled to call them legwarmers ... age crisis, obviously)
Meanwhile, if it's the timeturner that wins, that's good too, cos perhaps I'd spend a smidgeon of knitting time getting something done before -
well, knitting actually
x
I am so loving the legwarmers! Beautiful!
Posted by martha at April 9, 2010 2:39 PMOMG I LOVE THE BOOTS.
The legwarmers are nice too but the boots? Love (10000000)
Posted by Helen at April 9, 2010 2:39 PMWell done! Socks determined to be de-feet-ed. Cool.
Posted by AlisonH at April 9, 2010 2:51 PMIt's possible that it was you, knitting all that green, that caused Spring to spring.
Posted by Marina Stern at April 9, 2010 3:01 PMYup, they're back... 2 of the college girls in my weekly knitting class wanted to learn to knit so they could make some.
Posted by Mary Peed at April 9, 2010 3:16 PMNice legwarmers, but I want those pink boots!
Posted by Jean E. at April 9, 2010 3:25 PMLove them! Great pics!
Posted by kelly at April 9, 2010 3:25 PMLove them, and the pink boots too... Where'd you find those?
Posted by Debra at April 9, 2010 3:57 PMLove them with the kickin' cowboy boots! YAY!
Posted by beth Rasmussen at April 9, 2010 4:06 PMLove the leg warmers but totally covet the boots. mmmm....
Posted by AnneMarie at April 9, 2010 4:15 PMAnd they, too, are green!!
Posted by Cathy at April 9, 2010 4:17 PMAs long as I don't have to poodle-perm my hair again to get the big hair look, I can handle wearing legwarmers.
Posted by Shel at April 9, 2010 4:25 PMWow, legwarmers are back? Really? I must refuse to knit those. Just...no.
Posted by Mya at April 9, 2010 4:27 PMLovely - and green, too. And, yes, they are back. A friend who also knits had a request from someone she knows to make leg warmers. The gal who requested them teaches ballet, so it kind of made sense. The almost neon colorway she wanted, not so much.
Posted by Diane at April 9, 2010 4:49 PMAnd btw, re Harry Potter items, that broom thing would sure be handy for quick trips that don't demand a lot of carrying space. It would really save gas - so it'd be 'green'.
Posted by Diane at April 9, 2010 4:52 PMLegwarmers (AND pink? boots) would be very useful up here in Toronto right now, since it seems to be snowing out. Please bring spring back with you when you come.
Posted by Jo-Anne at April 9, 2010 4:55 PMI haven't seen anyone around NYC wearing them but they could be on their way back. Reminds me of high school and my Fame days!
Posted by Susie at April 9, 2010 5:04 PMLove the leg-warmers AND the boots!
Posted by Lisa Ragan at April 9, 2010 5:04 PM:) i've been begging for a darn time turner for a few years now. enjoy!
Posted by penny at April 9, 2010 5:04 PMI love the boots! I need a pair. Details, please?
The legwarmers are lovely, but they are green.
Posted by Marlyn at April 9, 2010 5:17 PMI've been in total denial about legwarmers being back in style, but I have to concede that those are some sexy legwarmers... and I totally want some for myself now. Damn!
I guess it's a good thing -- just one more accessory we can all knit now!
Posted by Laura at April 9, 2010 5:30 PMA new post today-with a mention of Harry Potter-2 of my favorite things together!!!! Also loved my page a day today-I've been on a mitten knitting kick lately so it really made me laugh.
Posted by Karen at April 9, 2010 5:39 PMAnd they're GREEN!
Those pink boots are really, really swell! And yes, a time-turner would be just the ticket.
Posted by Shelda at April 9, 2010 5:57 PMWonderful legwarmers and the pattern!! I've been telling my sister-in-law that they're popular! I had knee surgery last winter and had legwarmers on whenever I went outside.
Posted by Susan at April 9, 2010 6:04 PMThe leg warmers look great. Enjoy Sock Camp.
Posted by Meg at April 9, 2010 7:01 PM3. Your sister has tiny legs!
Posted by Megan D at April 9, 2010 7:15 PMI really like those...like enough to consider knitting them, despite the FAME flashbacks.
Of course I could just be thinking I need them because I had to scrape SNOW off my car this morning...
Posted by Kim/indigodragonfly at April 9, 2010 7:26 PMYep, legwarmers are back. My hip city-dweller sister wants me to make her a set too!
Posted by angela at April 9, 2010 7:39 PMAnd they're a lovely GREEN, too! Can't have too much green, especially with pinky/purpely boots!
Posted by Carla at April 9, 2010 7:42 PMLovely! Even if it isn't my color and I live too far south of Canada to really need legwarmers.
Posted by Iris at April 9, 2010 7:58 PMSuper cool!!
Posted by Molly at April 9, 2010 8:56 PMI live in China and they are everywhere here. But not hand knit!
Posted by Sandy at April 9, 2010 9:04 PMGreat leg warmers, especially with those awesome boots! Lucky sister!
Posted by Laurie at April 9, 2010 9:18 PMthey are back!
i wonder if they're back for men.
will you ask joe?
he seems like a manly man, and if he says yes, any man can wear them. if he says no, i bet i'm the kind of man who can wear them lol.
It also means a third thing: Your sister has AWESOME boots.
Posted by Rycrafty at April 9, 2010 10:05 PMWhat a great way to revive an old fashion trend! Darn, but I live in the South where wearing those things is probably the most impractical thing to do.
Oh, who am I kidding. I'm the wearer of the Big Green Pom Pom Hat.
Knitters can do what they want.
GREAT job on the leggings!
Posted by Nathalie at April 9, 2010 10:12 PMThe leg warmers are great. Your sister is very lucky... and probably will look forward to fall and winter now!
Oh, my gosh! Those boots are wicked good.
Posted by Diann at April 9, 2010 11:10 PMI love those! I've been thinking of making some leg warmers and now you've made up my mind! Oh, and now I have to go buy oots to wear them with. Thanks!
Posted by Betsie at April 9, 2010 11:13 PMThose leg warmers are fantastic! I love them with the boots.
Posted by MayB at April 10, 2010 1:35 AMAnd your sister makes them look so cool too. I lurve her boots - oh, and the leg warmers. :)
Posted by teeweewonders at April 10, 2010 3:57 AMWow, those legwarms are so gorgeous that I'm actually tempted to knit a pair for myself. I never wore them in the 80s; they were too scary. Now's the time for me to go all Flashdance! "What a feelin'!"
Posted by Angelia at April 10, 2010 8:16 AMFAB boots, first off. What I LOOOOVE about the legwarmers are the nearly swirly (not a big knitting word, I realize) cabling on them. TOTALLY cool. The cables would look good on other stuff, too - LOVE them. Great job!
Posted by Gretchen H at April 10, 2010 8:23 AMLoverly loverly leg warmers and erin sure needed them the last couple of days Brrrr. As for the time turner, it's not for me . I'd much rather have ""Bewitched "" powers--a nod of the head and everything is done. Imagine !!! Have fun and safe trip home.
Posted by JoanH at April 10, 2010 8:38 AMLegwarmers look great and they are astounding (in the best way) with the pink cowboy boots.
Have fun at camp. Hope you had a good class. Speaking of Harry Potter devices, maybe cloning would be an alternate option.
With my luck, Junior's next new word would be "Entanglio!" and I'd be screwed.
Hawt legwarmers, though...
Posted by silfert at April 10, 2010 10:24 AMI love that pattern but please ,please tell me where can I get a pair of those boots:-)
Posted by jackie at April 10, 2010 11:49 AMLove the boots! And the legwarmers. Oddly, their being green works for me. Now, to find ballet approved pink to knit a pair for my daughter, who will not wear black, or maroon. Worse, you knit them, she loves your work, and she knows I can rework the pattern for a small child... Thank you for the inspiration! I've got to find my notebook and raid my stash, now. :)
Posted by Heather P. at April 10, 2010 12:49 PMThey are especially back if you have some kick@$$ boots like those to wear with them!!
Posted by Jenny at April 10, 2010 12:57 PMWhat a great gift. Very chic color!
Posted by Mildawg at April 10, 2010 1:16 PMNoooooooo! I can't do the 80s again. I just can't!
Posted by Yarnhog (Suzanne) at April 10, 2010 1:25 PMGorgeous and *exactly* what I've been searching for since January to knit. Now that it's spring in Iowa (you know, the state you've yet to visit, in case you're keeping track, just sayin'...), I've some time to knit these.
Good for you for scoring cool points with your sib!
Posted by roggey at April 10, 2010 1:25 PMNice legwarmers, I Love the boots....Nancy
Posted by Nancy at April 10, 2010 3:30 PMWowsers (!) on the leg warmers. I loves me some leg warmers, in fashion or not -- I wear them around our drafty, elderly Southern house in the winter.
And?
Must. Have. Hot. Pink. Cowgirl. Boots!
GREEEN! Yes! I MUST have green this year! I think the snow got to me this winter. I HATE anything white right now. I dyed some wenslydale a brignt vermillion red becuae it was white. There is nothing I want to be white right now. I plan to dye all of my wool silly, crazy, bright ourtrageous colors....NO WHITE!!
bjr
Posted by Barb R at April 10, 2010 8:28 PMThe legwarmers are amazing! Tell me, was it hard to make the 2nd one? (2nd legwarmer syndrome)
Posted by Connie at April 10, 2010 10:48 PMAwesome legwarmers....tell me, was it hard to make the 2nd one (2nd legwarmer symdrome)?
Posted by Connie at April 10, 2010 10:49 PMI really like the way they look over the boots ... very nice looking!
Posted by jayayceeblog at April 11, 2010 2:45 AMIf those boots are indeed purple, then not only am I in love with the legwarmers, I am also in love with the boots!
I also have to say I am in two minds about this resurgence of the 80s fashion. I was there the first time and I wasn't so sure even then. Bit dodgy.
Posted by Andrea at April 11, 2010 3:05 AMWell, I don't know about a time turner but a team of scientists at the Australian National University has just been given government funding to continue research on invisibility cloaks: http://news.anu.edu.au/?p=2081
Of course, all the blather about applications in defence, renewable energy etc. is all very well, but we all know what the best application's going to be - I can't wait for the sock yarn!
Posted by Quatrefoil at April 11, 2010 9:03 AM"Legwarmers must be back."
Hehehe, I am needing to knit up a few pairs of those myself!
Posted by Chaosgarden at April 11, 2010 10:56 AMFirst: cute leg warmers.
However, I must admit I'm writing on a more sock-y note. Didi you know that there is a SOCK EXHIBITION(!!!) going on in Toronto?? It's over at the Bata Shoe Museum, around the corner from the ROM. I'm hoping it will still be on next time I make it down the 401...
Posted by Heather in MTL at April 11, 2010 12:02 PMPerfect for my sister, the Roller Derby Queen! Putting them in my queue!
Posted by Sri at April 11, 2010 12:21 PMVery lovely and interesting cables!
Posted by Cath at April 11, 2010 5:00 PMI was not really happy when legwarmers went out, because they kept me warm x-c skiing, and show shoveling.
They're baaaack, and I'm going to knit up a pair or two.
Posted by Elizabeth in VT at April 11, 2010 6:37 PMSock camp sounds like a dream come true - wish I could be there. Love the legwarmers and absolutely covet the boots.
Posted by catspaw at April 11, 2010 8:43 PMI love them, and I so want them.
Posted by astrid at April 11, 2010 9:46 PMI call my legwarmers that fit over jeans and boots woolly gaiters. My partner's dad thinks it's brilliantly funny. And now I sooooo want a pair of these for myself! Sigh...
I also want the boots. Oh, gods, do I ever! Very stylish shoot, Harlot!
Posted by Jessica Powers at April 12, 2010 5:51 AMGreat leg-warmers and FABULOUS boots. Dig that look!
Posted by Susie at April 12, 2010 8:50 AMLove the legwarmers, and those are some fantastic boots! Love them!
Posted by Janel at April 12, 2010 9:54 AMI do hope your sister LOVES them -- they look great!
Posted by Wool Free and Lovin' Knit at April 12, 2010 10:38 AMLeg warmers are totally back!... but only for the tall and slender! fat legs + leg warmers = major faux par!!! DO NOT DO! They look gorgeous on your sister. (lucky b***h... said with love of course)
Posted by Pinkadele at April 12, 2010 1:36 PMLove those legwarmers - gorgeous!
And yeah, I agree with everyone else...could you please tell us what boots those are? LOVE. Them.
Posted by Amber at April 12, 2010 2:39 PMI intend to take pictures of everything I knit. But, as I'm always rushing to finish a gift at the last minute, I'm lucky to get where I'm going much less find the camera, make sure the battery is charged and it has enough memory. If I keep what I make (rarer and rarer these days due to a massive baby boom amongst my friends' children) then I don't need a picture. Could be worse.
Posted by Barbara in Seattle at April 12, 2010 4:36 PMWho KNEW that legwarmers were that in again? These are so cool.
Posted by Meredith from Penelope Loves Lists at April 12, 2010 5:17 PMLove them! I gots to get me some for next fall - the ones I made last winter have been worn out with all the snow we had!
Posted by Cat at April 13, 2010 12:33 AMThose are GREAT!
Posted by Knitterella at April 13, 2010 5:32 AMHello Ms. Harlot,
I was interested in the fact that you loved the louet yarn-
I was wondering if you'd be willing to go out on a limb and rank your top 5 faveorite sock yarns?
I am willing to exchange copious amounts of Reed chocolates for this information....
Posted by carolce at April 13, 2010 11:05 AMJust a curious question. how come you have never come to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival? If you are looking to come and need a place to stay, let me know. We would love to have you attend the festival. It is SUPER!
Posted by Ellen at April 13, 2010 3:18 PMCool green cabled legwarmers!

Posted by KarenJ at April 14, 2010 5:23 PMOh my God, those boots are awesome. Didn't know I wanted lavender until I saw them. Sigh...
Posted by Deb. at April 14, 2010 5:51 PMyep, sorry, you're gonna need to post where she got those boots, they're awesome! So's that beautiful legwarmer recipe, investigating as we speak...i've been off the needles for a while now, need something to inspire me...
Posted by Melanie J. at April 14, 2010 8:53 PMlooks like i'll be adding leg warmers to my project queue. these are cook, but i really covet the boots!
Posted by deb c. at April 14, 2010 9:47 PMI *Love* these. Am I too much of an old fart to wear something this cool? Maybe for my daughter. . .
Posted by Yvonne at April 14, 2010 10:48 PMThese leg warmers are amazing I love them and yes they are back in style I know several young ladies who are now wearing and requesting leg warmers :)
Those are incredible legwarmers, perfect. I have one pair of purple cabled legwarmers and I wear them a LOT. Right up there with the purple stockinette ones. (Brian says that "purple is Lynn's beige" and he is right... the best neutral ever, for me.)
Yes, they are cool now. Witness me, dorky 51-yr old woman at a middle school having students come up and tell me how great I look. Same dorky 51-yr-old at an open mic at tiny Dagwood's pub (circa 1940), has cool blonde twenty-something grrls come up and tell me how awesome I look.
I tell my kids who I teach to knit... it's accidental, that they think I'm cool right now. I always wear legwarmers, did it before flashdance, will do it when it's out again. Lynn doesn't change too much, at least when it comes to being warm in Michigan... but I go in and out of style while staying the same me.
It's like the theme of the movie Aladdin. "Be Yourself." I wouldn't go back to age 20 for any amount of money.
Meanwhile, it's amusing to be in style for once.
