I love this shawl.

and er...this one.

I love them so much that I have knit this shawl, in this yarn, in three colourways (the red is really nice too..) more than once. I have, in my obsessive and compulsive manner, knit this shawl upwards of six times. There is something about it that just gets me. I knit the shawls, I give away some of them, but mostly I hoard them, unworn, in a box in my bedroom. From time to time I take them out, stroke them softly and think about going down to the yarn shop and, since I heard a rumour that this yarn is discontinued, buying all that she has and keeping it to myself. Forever.
I love these shawls so much, that I gave posting the pictures of them on this blog serious thought. One of you is going to want one. And then there will be less of this yarn in the world for me. Even though I can't afford more, have more, own several of the shawls, have given one of the shawls to everyone in my life would could possibly deserve one and some who don't....I still don't want anyone else to buy the yarn and reduce my chances of finding it again. That's healthy....right?
PS. Hank wore the mittens.
Posted by Stephanie at February 9, 2004 11:32 AMThat shawl? I have one. You know you're loved when.... ;)
Posted by: Lene at February 9, 2004 11:43 AMI have a bunch, 10 or so skeins, of Mexican Wave in the red colorway. Now I know what to do with it. It sure didn't work in the sweater I started.
Posted by: Larry at February 9, 2004 11:57 AMDid I mention that I have the red?
Posted by: Lene at February 9, 2004 12:48 PMIt's lying in all its glory on my couch. beautiful. Gorgeous. The envy of all.
And it's mine, all mine.
Larry, I can't tell you how much I love this yarn. I can tell you that I have never, ever, even for a moment thought about knitting it into anything other than a shawl. Weird eh?
Lene- stop gloating.
Love the shawls! I'm hopelessly addicted to shawls too. They don't bind or make me feel frumpy on a "fat day".
Love the dragon mittens too. Some little critter had better not make a rude comment about their color on a boy either!!
Posted by: LisaK at February 9, 2004 2:50 PMStephanie, dear, I don't have one.
They look so pretty.
It is not my birthday or anything.
But I am a nice person.
Does that give you any ideas?
I like yellow.
Have you ever knitted a yellow one?
Until I saw what you've knitted these beautiful shawls with, I was feeling kinda embarassed to admit that I'd knited three of Stahman's Matthew scarves for family Christmas presents year before last with this yarn. Isn't is a wonderful feeling fiber - so soft and cozy. Sorry to hear its going to be discontinued as I wanted to knit the EZ surprise baby sweater out of it and was hoping to find more of the blue/green colorway. And after seeing your shawls, I was thinking that it would also be great for knitting the multidirectional scarf. Rats, just when I thought I was given permission to knit with inexpensive acrylic!
Posted by: Roi at February 9, 2004 7:19 PMNow I know there's some kind of karma thing here! I have knitted both those shawls - the blue and the green colorway! I haven't tried the red yet. I never told anyone about them because there are those that would scoff at *acrylic* yarn. I made my daughter's about 3 yrs. ago, and it still looks bee-you-tiful!
Posted by: Theresa at February 9, 2004 8:26 PMI sometimes scoff at acrylic yarn. I scoff at it because it is crappy. This yarn is not crappy. I knit with it the first time because I was seduced by the colours. I keep knitting with it because it's really good yarn, at a really reasonable price. Cheap actually. It feels good, it holds it's shape really well and washes like a dream. I don't know if I would use it for something where I cared about breathability...like a sweater, but a scarf? A shawl. Oh yeah.
Kathy? Pick another colour. I hate yellow.
(and the yarn doesn't come in a big enough range of yellows.....and I checked the website and.....hey, hold on a minute. Didn't I already mail you a shawl?)
Oh phooey. I thought I had so cleverly weaseled another out of you.
You're right. I give. For now.
I'm not gloating, I'm just trying to make Kathy whimper.
(ok, so I am gloating a wee bit)
(ok, ok, a lot)
Wow, the shawls are gorgeous! I've never considered myself a shawl person, but I'm rethinking this. I'm also heading to my LYS this morning to buy their remaining stock of Mexican Wave. Not being creative or talented enough to create my own pattern, I'm a total pattern slave. Can you share the source for the fab shawls? Or are they your own creations? Enough typing, my 3.5 month old is wiggling and this is getting too hard to do with one hand.
