We left Lake Huron, and flew to the next stop on our vacation. We knit on the plane.
My mother-in-law Carol knit on the plane:
Meg knit on the plane:
I knit on the plane.
(That's STR lightweight in Rosebud, in the beginnings of a Hibiscus for Hope.)
The flight attendant laughed every time she walked by our row. Then we got here.
Where's here? You guess. I'll send a skein of yarn (when I get home) to the person who guesses where I was standing when I took this picture. Be specific if you can... the closer you are, the better your chances.

Posted by: Dixie at August 4, 2008 5:37 PMI'd hazard a guess that the "here" you're referring to is Signal Hill, St Johns NF. If it's not, it sure is a pretty view anyway.

Posted by: Lish at August 4, 2008 5:50 PMI have no idea where you are so won't hazard a guess, altho it looks beautiful! I just looked up the pattern you highlight - I love it - Knitters for Knockers! I think I will have to join that. Another commenter guessed Scotland - I hope it is someplace wonderful like that! Have a great vacation!
Posted by: danana at August 4, 2008 5:51 PMI'm guessing the west coast somewhere close to the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland!

Posted by: Frances at August 4, 2008 6:09 PMI agree that this looks like Newfoundland - I just got back from there last night! The only place I can think this might be is the Signal Hill hike, which I didn't do, but some of the pictures I got from up on Signal Hill look very similar, just at a different angle. I was only on that one side of the island, though, so it could be somewhere else, too.
Posted by: Misty Baird at August 4, 2008 6:11 PMPrince Edward Island? Just because it's the first thing that popped into my head.
Posted by: Jenn at August 4, 2008 6:12 PMOk, I'll bite. I think you're on the North Head Trail in St. John's. I'm going to go one step further and say that you're on top of Signal Hill

Posted by: Kathy at August 4, 2008 6:16 PMIt's cloudy so I'm going to guess the western side of Victoria Island. I grew up in SE Alaska and that was a familiar sight even in summer!

Posted by: Emily at August 4, 2008 6:17 PMI'll guess Vancouver Island, looking toward Washington.
Posted by: Anakalia at August 4, 2008 6:17 PMI'm guessing Connamaera on the West coast of Ireland.
Posted by: Rabbi David at August 4, 2008 6:18 PMLooks like the subtle eastern shores of Canada, perhaps Newfoundland looking upon Prince Edward Island? Although I have never been there, I grew up on Vancouver Island where our coast is much different. Enjoy your family holiday!

Have fun where ever you may be!
Posted by: Alyssa at August 4, 2008 6:41 PMI am almost positive it is Cuckold's Cove, just outside of St.John's, and you are looking out towards Cape Spear. St.John's is my new home but these sights are becoming familiar.
Posted by: Amy B. at August 4, 2008 6:42 PMCape St. Mary's, Nfld, or Cape Spear, Nfld - my favorite place in the world!
...ps. if I am even close to correct on the Nfld. thing, I will be annoyed that I missed you by two weeks. Two weeks!! We could have had a lot of fun, y'know....:-)
Posted by: Krista at August 4, 2008 6:42 PMSecond guess. If the North Head guess is wrong, I'll toss in "Cuckold Cove" specifically, on the Cuckold Cove trail. The fact that you *can't* see Fort Amherst makes me think that you're further up the Grand Concourse.
Man ... this is HARD!!!!

Have fun!
I guess Newfoundland!
Maybe its just because I think I'd like to be there right now!
Posted by: Elizabeth at August 4, 2008 6:55 PMLoch Lomand, Scotland???
Posted by: dina at August 4, 2008 6:55 PMI'm going to go with Signal Hill as well. You couldn't have flown to Ireland or Scotland, or you'd have a lot more knitting done. Same story for British Columbia, Washington state, or Alaska. It's definitely not Bar Harbor, and the cliffs are too tall for PEI or Nova Scotia. Cape Breton is a possibility, but it doesn't look quite right for Cape Breton. So I'll join the Signal Hill group.
Do we all get a skein? You'll do quite a job on the stash if so.

Posted by: Carole Macomber at August 4, 2008 7:07 PMIt looks like near where the crazy tides are in New Brunswick (or is it Newfoundland?). One of those Atlantic Provinces! I've always wanted to visit there, and this looks like the tourism photos :) Very pretty wherever you are!
Posted by: Carly at August 4, 2008 7:08 PMLooks a lot like Cape Breton to me. Lucky you!
Posted by: Grace at August 4, 2008 7:08 PMI think you are in Ireland, looking at Sleahead, the farthest west point in the EU. So, more specifically the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry. And Ryan's Daughter was filmed there. So maybe you're taking this photo from the N70, sort of heading towards Tralee. Am I right? If I'm right, I feel special, if not I feel like a big dork. Have fun wherever you are!
Posted by: Meg at August 4, 2008 7:08 PMTaking a random guess here (and looking at a map)... Parry Sound?
Posted by: Kim at August 4, 2008 7:10 PMDefinitely west coast of Newfoundland. I would recognize those lichen-covered granite rocks anywhere. Corner Brook has already been guessed, so I will say it's farther out Bay St. George.....say Benoit's Cove just because I used to date a nice boy from there. :-) or Lark Harbour.
Say hi to my hometown for me, from a displaced Corner Brooker.
Posted by: jacquie at August 4, 2008 7:12 PMYou are standing on the precipice of indecision stuck between terra firma and the beckoning sea of uncharted waters, trying to figure out whether to jump on in 'cuz the water's fine and continue with sock number two or stick to solid earth and finish the first sock begun at the nature installation of the young man as an andy-goldworthy-type artist.
But that's just a guest.
And I really need to get out more...
Posted by: cheryl at August 4, 2008 7:12 PMThis looks for all the world like the Cape Breton Highlands....my husband and I went there on our honeymoon. I can't really tell without looking at the beaches...but maybe it's the other coast entirely...Vancouver?
Posted by: Kym at August 4, 2008 7:14 PMI'm thinking the people who are guessing the maritime providences are probably correct but my shot in the dark is Thunder Bay, Ont.
Posted by: Julianne at August 4, 2008 7:17 PMErrrrrrrr . . . I don't see big trees, so I'm thinking farther North, maybe Newfoundland or Labrador, and yes, that's the big net I'm throwing out.
Posted by: Kathi D at August 4, 2008 7:19 PMUsually after a vacation, I head home again, but you weren't. I was going to go with Nova Scotia, having been there a long long time ago. So let's go out on a limb and guess that you are at Fleece Artist.
Posted by: moirae at August 4, 2008 7:20 PMIt looks like the south coast of Devon England to me. Though they wouldn't let me take my knitting onto the plane last time I flew home - How did ya do it? Please tell me how you got enough knitting for 3 people on there?!
Posted by: Sueby at August 4, 2008 7:20 PMLooks like Cape Blomidon from the other side (Parrsboro, Five Islands Provincial Park, ...?)

Posted by: bekala at August 4, 2008 7:28 PMI would guess east coast Canada, Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. I also want to know how you were allowed knitting needles on a plane. I didn't bother to take mine on a 4 hour flight because I assumed they would not be allowed.
Posted by: Lorry at August 4, 2008 7:29 PMOMG, ye are in Scotland, land o' the Scots! I'm guessing Nova Scotia, maybe looking out at Blomidon (I don't remember how to spell Blomidon but you know where I mean?)
On a slope, next to a rock, overlooking a lake. ;) Not a clue as to where in the world your particular version of that combo exists, but it looks lovely.

and if not.. keep it a secret--its obvious a place of beauty, and you don't want it over run by (US) americans!
(but it could also be NS, or maybe even PEI--i think NS is one of the prettiest places in NA, and i am told (and will have to take on trust) the PEI is even prettier..
(But i think maybe BC an the atlantic provences are neck in neck for being beautiful.)
Posted by: helen (of troy) at August 4, 2008 7:40 PMYou are so in Ireland! I'm guessing the southern coast, although it also looks a lot like the Dingle peninsula, where my family is from.

Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia,
Posted by: cici at August 4, 2008 7:54 PMRegarding what I said earlier about Fleece Artist, I've come to understand it's a bit inland, so I'll guess the closest water bit on the map which is at the end of mineville road there.

The west coast of NFLD is more fjordy and the weather in the photo looks like newfoundland.

You're looking at Cape Spear from Cuckold's Cove, near Quidi Vidi in NF.
Posted by: Malva at August 4, 2008 8:51 PMI'm gonna guess PEI, but it really could be anywhere on either coast of Canada.

Posted by: jane in Lincoln, Ne. at August 4, 2008 8:59 PMI was going to guess lock ness in scottland, but someone said that. I am going with Norway now. I have no particular knowledge of Norway. I just always thought it would be cool to see a fjord.

Posted by: Nadine at August 4, 2008 9:04 PMI'm guessing the UK. If I have to be more specific, I'd say Scotland. Or Ireland. Wait, Wales looks like that, too. And so do parts of England... uh, maybe I should just stick with my original guess.

Posted by: Amy Marr at August 4, 2008 9:11 PMI haven't the slightest idea in the world where you are, but it looks absolutely lovely and once I know where it is will go on my list of places to visit!
Posted by: Marie at August 4, 2008 9:15 PMRocky Harbor, Gros Morne Newfoundland?
Posted by: Sara K at August 4, 2008 9:15 PMIt looks like your in my back yard - and if you are, I'm pissed because I'm not there! My guess is that you are on the Bonavista Peninsula in Newfoundland.
Posted by: Kelly at August 4, 2008 9:17 PMI love that knitting on the plane. I'm sort of disappointed that none of you made an attempt at getting the flight attendant to knit. Now THAT would have made a great blog picture/entry.
As for where you're standing...uh, on a rock. Oh, wait, you said be specific. OK, then, you're standing on a BIG rock. A big grayish rock with moss on it. A big grayish rock with moss on it that overlooks some pretty yellow flowers and some water. There, that specific enough for ya?!
Posted by: Kathy in KS at August 4, 2008 9:19 PMWestern Newfoundland... maybe near Gros Morne or Bonne Bay?
Posted by: talia at August 4, 2008 9:22 PMwestern brook pond in gros morne nat'l pk

Posted by: Rebecca at August 4, 2008 9:38 PMParadise! Just a guess - Thunder Bay?
Posted by: Cathy at August 4, 2008 9:41 PMNewfoundland, for sure. Atlantic ocean. That's all I've got.
Posted by: Nikki at August 4, 2008 9:47 PMIceland???

Posted by: Sidney at August 4, 2008 9:49 PMThe Battery overlooking St. John's Harbor, Newfoundland
Posted by: Colette at August 4, 2008 9:50 PMBritish Virgin Islands, maybe Virgin Gorda?
Posted by: Diane W at August 4, 2008 9:51 PMCape Breton. On the Cabot Trail. And if I had to be more specific, I'd say somewhere between Meat Cove and Ingonish.
And enjoy your stop at Baadeck Yarns! :)
Posted by: Lynneski at August 4, 2008 9:52 PMI'm guessing Newfoundland, too...are you on the Viking Trail?
Posted by: Heather at August 4, 2008 9:53 PMCould it be .. oh, I don't know .. the beginning of Lake Erie? Just a wild and crazy guess!
Posted by: Miss Tracy at August 4, 2008 9:53 PMI'm guessing some where on P.E.I. I can't be more specific...maybe I'm just guessing that because I'm rereading "Anne". My favourite postpardum (sp) reading. : )

Posted by: Diane at August 4, 2008 10:02 PMI will give a shot at one of the fjords in Norway. Beautiful view! Have fun!
Posted by: Sara in WI at August 4, 2008 10:03 PMNewfoundland, for sure. I'm going to chance west-coast, perhaps near Corner Brook?
Posted by: Elisabeth at August 4, 2008 10:04 PMGoose Bay?
Posted by: Aidan at August 4, 2008 10:10 PMBased on the amount of knitting you got done on the plane, you must be in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia.
I'll bet you flew into St. John's, but more specifically where the photo was taken, dunno - Prince Edward Island?
It looks like White Point, Nova Scotia.
Posted by: Tim at August 4, 2008 10:12 PMlooks like PEI to me - and i am basing that on your love of biking vacations and it is a great place for a biking vacation!!! have a great trip!
Posted by: beth at August 4, 2008 10:14 PMThe Bay of Fundy?
Posted by: Evelyn at August 4, 2008 10:24 PMI am guessing Newfoundland, Signal Hill

Posted by: Christine in Quebec at August 4, 2008 10:25 PMvancouver island
Posted by: melinda at August 4, 2008 10:25 PMIt certainly does look like a Great Lake site. I agree with the folks above who guessed Sleeping Giant Provincial Park near Thunder Bay Ontario. Wherever you are, have a great time!
Posted by: swtrknttr at August 4, 2008 10:30 PMJuneau or maybe North Douglas Island? Maybe not.
Posted by: Sue at August 4, 2008 10:30 PMWell, after naming Megan's baby Athena, but never one to give up...Sibley Peninsula aka the Sleeping Giant, Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Happy vacation, wherever you are!
Posted by: Sue G at August 4, 2008 10:31 PMNear Deception Pass on Whidbey Island, Washington.
Posted by: Lisa M. at August 4, 2008 10:31 PMMy first thought was Newfoundland and second Monhegan Island off the coast of Maine. I've never been to either of these places but the picture looks like I imagine them to be!
Posted by: Barbara at August 4, 2008 10:39 PMsomewhere in/near acadia national park on mt. desert island in maine??
Posted by: heidi at August 4, 2008 10:39 PMWherever it is, I want to go!
Posted by: rohanknitter at August 4, 2008 10:43 PMI'd say you're visiting Brenda Dayne in Wales because that's what it screamed to me at first, but it also really looks like Ireland. Either way, it's beautiful & I'd like to be there too!!
Posted by: Manda at August 4, 2008 10:44 PMLooks to me like you are on PEI and viewing Cape Breton Island. But reviewing my pix, Cape Breton is further away... Hmmm... Looks beautiful, though. Can't wait to find out where!
Posted by: Andy at August 4, 2008 10:50 PMI think you are on Vancouver Island in BC :)
Posted by: Michele at August 4, 2008 10:53 PMI'm going wild and guessing somewhere in vermont.
Posted by: Rosie at August 4, 2008 10:56 PMAre you in Alberta at Lake Louise?? That's where I am going soon. I am in Edmonton, and on my way to Jasper and then Banff. What if I saw you there? I promise I would not stalk! Even tho I am from Texas. We are avoiding a hurricane and 100+ F weather by being here in Canada. Whew
Nancy
Digby, Nova Scotia Have the scallops!
Posted by: Debbie at August 4, 2008 11:02 PMI'm guessing Newfoundland?
Posted by: Maggie at August 4, 2008 11:07 PMMy guess is Meat Cove in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (altho' if it were really Meat Cove, your sock would've blown away ;).
Since I seem to remember Joe is from Newfoundland, it's probably somewhere there -- but since I haven't been there, I don't know any place there to guess. Based on a net search Tors Cove looks promising (tho' Tickle Cove has a better name ;).
I was totally going to say Signal Hill in St. Johns Newfoundland, then I clicked on the comments and saw it was already guessed by the third guess!!!
I'm sticking with it though...
:)
(I read all the time, but I think this is my first comment...)
Posted by: Kristie at August 4, 2008 11:21 PMhmm newfoundland. St john's mostly likely?
Posted by: samantha at August 4, 2008 11:24 PMMy geographical skills are lacking, but the phrase "likely to be eaten by a grue" popped into my head.
Yep, I know, not even close. Too much Zork, not enough studying for finals. But I have to cut myself some slack, it was 20-some years ago. How many some? Not sayin'
Posted by: puddnik at August 4, 2008 11:25 PMAfter more net searching, I second Cuckold's Cove in Newfoundland -- it looks more promising than Tors or Tickle Cove....
Posted by: Lissa at August 4, 2008 11:28 PMI'm going to guess cape breton, right up close to Bradour (bras d'or?)
Stephanie, I have a neat gift/toy for you.
There's a website called wordle.net. It's spiffy. You drop in a chunk of your writing, your blog, whatever, and it makes word art from the contents, showing what you speak or think about most frequently. I dropped the last few days in and got this:
http://wordle.net/gallery/wrdl/105532/For_Stephanie
Hope it's fun.

Gaspé.
Posted by: Deborah Robson at August 4, 2008 11:33 PMNewfoundland. Near Rocky Harbour.
Posted by: Elizabeth at August 4, 2008 11:34 PMNOT Corning, NY. :-)
Posted by: bluecanary at August 4, 2008 11:35 PMI'm going to go with Newfoundland. Since you took a plane and Corner Brook isn't that near water, I'm guessing St. Johns, up on the hill, about a half a block left of that little yellow house where the guy lived whose brother was in that jam commercial with the tall girl with the curly hair - what was her name now? Anyway, her cousin knows my sister; she said there was never anything between them and the judge blew it all out of proportion anyway.
Happy vacation.
Posted by: Adele at August 4, 2008 11:46 PMLa Tortuga, Costa Rica? One could hope, huh?
Posted by: Kelley at August 4, 2008 11:48 PMGiant's Causeway, Northern Ireland? Looks pretty ;)

Posted by: MaryB in Richmond at August 5, 2008 12:01 AMSignal Hill, St. John's, Newfoundland
(by detective work-I used Google Earth until I found someone who had posted a photo with quite a similar outlook) so I'm going with the Signal Hill group! :)
How about the coast of Maine?
Posted by: Ellen at August 5, 2008 12:11 AMIf Joe is with you, too, then wherever it is, it's home.
Posted by: AlisonH at August 5, 2008 12:20 AMI'll go with signal hill too. Or to be more general, looking over a really pretty inlet to a large body of water somewhere with clouds
Posted by: sam at August 5, 2008 12:23 AMFrom the sound of my heart breaking, I'd have to say you're in Newfoundland. But where..... hmmm. Quiddi Viddi would be a good guess, they have the beer. Jim said Trinity, but that would be too far a drive for you to make in one day with flying. One final guess would be Conception Bay, that's where Uncle Albert Nolan and Aunt Mary live. They live on Foxtrap Road. If you're nearby, stop in and say Hi. Albert makes the best cod cheeks and tongues, and they love knitters and visitors!
Posted by: leslie - queen of cracksilk haze at August 5, 2008 12:30 AMNova Scotia? I think that you took too little knitting to make it a long flight.
Posted by: Jesse at August 5, 2008 12:30 AMLoch Ness?
Posted by: Nicole at August 5, 2008 12:37 AMwell, you're definitely not on the west coast because my grandparents say it was sunny today. not cloudy. but if you ARE on the west coast my bet is for: gabriola island OR bowen island. you choose. xo
Posted by: diandra at August 5, 2008 12:40 AMIreland? Looks so green!
Posted by: Joan at August 5, 2008 12:44 AMAnderson cove, East Sooke wilderness, Vancouver Island BC. At least it looks just like it when you get out to the overlook point area.
Posted by: Janel at August 5, 2008 12:50 AMLooks like the Sleeping Giant at Thunder Bay, Ontario. Happy vacation.
Posted by: Kendra L at August 5, 2008 12:52 AMLooks like Nova Scotia (which looks a lot like Scotland) to me, but I'm just wondering how you got metal sock needles on an airplane, since mine were confiscated by security.
Posted by: Louise at August 5, 2008 1:03 AMalaskan coast somewhere. we've been overcast for weeks but it sort of seems familiar somehow, your photo. hmmmmm....still beautiful here!
Posted by: kristy at August 5, 2008 1:13 AMLoch Lomond!
Posted by: Karin at August 5, 2008 1:21 AMI have no clue where you are, I've traveled in a very limited way. Coast looks rocky like Maine-but further north. Atlantic-North America side, by the amount of the knitting you've done on that sock. I use metal circular needles on my socks when flying (how'd I ever crawl around in the cramped quarters of a plane when I'd inevitably let a double-pointed slip to the floor?!). And I like the "magic loop" method. Went to the website and got the pattern-lovely!! Can't wait to knit it up in a soft green I have. Thanks for posting it.
Continue to have a wonderful vacation with your family-nice looking bunch, dude!
Prince Edward Island?

The San Juan Islands in Puget Sound, Washington State?
Posted by: Eileen at August 5, 2008 1:53 AMMy guess is that you´re on Prince Edward´s Island.
Posted by: Leena at August 5, 2008 1:55 AMDo I get a second guess? How about Thunder Bay, Ontario?
Posted by: Eileen at August 5, 2008 1:56 AMIt looks like Devon to me, but maybe I'm just a tad homesick for the sea as that plane doesn't look big enough to be transatlantic so I'm going to plump for Vancouver Island which I remember as being very beautiful. I can't get any more detailed because I was only 10 when I went. Enjoy your holiday whereever you are
Posted by: Cariemay at August 5, 2008 2:36 AMBased on a hunch and some quick research on a Newfoundland site that offers panoramic shots, I'm guessing you are on or near Signal Hill. (I found one shot that sort of looked similar to your pic.) Wherever it is, it looks lovely. And I loved the stone sculpture from the previous post.
Posted by: Angela at August 5, 2008 2:49 AMSince I have no idea what to guess (Though the first thing that sprang in mind was Vancouver Island... where I haven't been) I'll just comment on the knitting. I loooooove the idea of a knitter's row in the flight and I'm pretty sure that the flight attendant was delighted to be amused in such a crafty way!!!
Have a lovely vacation... the scenery sure looks to do the job intended.
I am guessing Prince Edward Island. Not Washington state, We were pretty warm today, and tomorrow is supposed to be far warmer.
Posted by: PICAdrienne at August 5, 2008 3:37 AMI'm just drunk on the colors, the serenity, and the idea of knitting on a plane with other women:-)
Posted by: shanny mac at August 5, 2008 3:38 AMIt certainly LOOKS like Cornwall, in the UK, but there's no way you could fly from Canada to here on a plane that small. So it must be somewhere closer.
I'm guessing Cape Breton in Nova Scotia!
Posted by: Genny at August 5, 2008 3:49 AMQuidi Vidi, Newfoundland - you're here for the Regatta!
Posted by: Fiona at August 5, 2008 4:08 AMI'm also guessing Signal Hill, but not through any local knowledge ... the coastline in the back of your shot looks _remarkably_ similar to the group shot (with the Dublin Bay sock!) from the top of the trail you posted back in August 2004 ;-) So ... somewhere near the top of the trail, out of sight of the wooden railings?
Posted by: Alison at August 5, 2008 4:30 AMIt looks like Scotland or somewhere along the west coast of Ireland.
Enjoy your holiday :)
Posted by: Aileen at August 5, 2008 4:38 AMit looks beautiful! i'm just throwing it out there but i want to say cape cod.
Posted by: rina at August 5, 2008 4:52 AMFrom the weather I'd guess Cornwall, England, it has been grey and wet here all summer!
Posted by: sue green at August 5, 2008 4:59 AMThe breathtaking beauty is intoxicating and it looks like PEI in the distance so I'd say you're near my beloved beach on the shore of the Northumberland Strait somewhere between River John and Tatamagouche NS. I'm sooo homesick right now.
Posted by: radmeister at August 5, 2008 6:10 AMYou are in Northern Lower Michigan, looking out across Lake Huron at Mackinaw Island...possibly at Mackinaw City?
Posted by: Tenna at August 5, 2008 6:16 AMIt looks very much like the Sleeping Giant.
Posted by: Nancy Kennedy at August 5, 2008 6:20 AMNewfoundland? I don't know why, as I've never been. The thought just struck the minute I saw the lovely photo. Enjoy yourselves, wherever you all are!
Posted by: Pam Kurst at August 5, 2008 6:45 AMI guess you're in Newfoundland, at Gros Morne N.P.
Wherever you are, you are blessed to be in so beautiful a place!
Posted by: Kathy Howatt at August 5, 2008 6:50 AMI'm gonna say the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, cuz that looks a lot like somewhere I stopped and took a picture of when I was there. I could be wrong though, it was awhile ago.
Posted by: phoeniks at August 5, 2008 6:52 AMSome where in Nova Scotia
Posted by: Cindy B at August 5, 2008 7:11 AMIt's probably somewhere in the Maritimes, but my official guess is Victoria, BC. Weather is right, colour of ocean is right, rocks are right...

Posted by: abby at August 5, 2008 7:30 AMMiddle Cove near St. Johns ??
Posted by: Karen at August 5, 2008 7:49 AMI absolutely do not understand how you get so much knitting done! Do you finish anything? Just 2 days ago there was another sock you were working on. Did you finish it? Amazing!
Posted by: Wanda at August 5, 2008 7:53 AMI'm guessing you're on the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia, somewhere near Meat Cove.
Posted by: Deb at August 5, 2008 7:53 AMYou are just where I'd like to be right now. Enjoy!
Posted by: Nell at August 5, 2008 7:54 AMGros morne? Twillingate?
Posted by: helen at August 5, 2008 7:54 AMHiking to the narrows at Signal Hill, NF. Have a wonderful vacation. Wish I could come to CA sometime.
Posted by: Carol Day at August 5, 2008 7:54 AMAre you in B.C. in the treasure forest?
Posted by: Simone at August 5, 2008 8:08 AMI'm guessing New Brunswick, but I can't get more specific than that.... really it could probably be any of these places listed in the comments for all I would know. It looks just glorious. Perfect knitting weather.
Posted by: Simone at August 5, 2008 8:08 AMSince I only posted the second of those two comments above it is a pretty big coincidence that two people named Simone posted in the exact same minute. Either that, or a computer glitch credited them both to me...?
Posted by: Simone at August 5, 2008 8:14 AMCavendish, PEI
Posted by: miss sandra at August 5, 2008 8:14 AMBeautiful sock!!!!
I'm going to guess Newfoundland -- wherever it is, it is truly beautiful!
Posted by: csewing at August 5, 2008 8:16 AMst anne's bay nova scotia? this is later in the summer than i have ever been there- but it is what it reminds me of.
Gorgeous
Signal Hill, St. John's Newfoundland?
Posted by: Natalie at August 5, 2008 8:27 AMGuess Signal Hill wasn't a very original guess. Made by comparing to your vacation photos from 2004 and assuming that it had to be beautiful Canada!
Posted by: Natalie at August 5, 2008 8:31 AMOn first looking at the picture, I was going to say Vancouver Island, but no... I think it's Newfoundland. But I've never been there so I can't get more specific than that.

Posted by: Ruth in NJ at August 5, 2008 8:43 AMI am extremely travel challenged and have no clue where you are... but how many readers of a certain generation read the title and in their mind added "is Carmen Sandiego?"
Just try getting that stuck in your head in the first 15 minutes of work!
Posted by: Rete at August 5, 2008 8:44 AMGros Morne National Park? Just a guess!
Posted by: Teri at August 5, 2008 8:45 AMI suspect that some smart-alec has already said what I would say ...
You were standing on a big boulderous rock next to a field of wild flowers!

nope, heaven. :-)

Posted by: Janelle at August 5, 2008 8:48 AMI'm just glad you are having a family holiday. I can spot the Air Canada headphone packets...
Posted by: Linda in Waterloo at August 5, 2008 8:50 AMI'm guessing that it's too far to bike from your place (or Lake Huron.) My guess is Nova Scotia (or someplace on the east coast of Canada.)
Posted by: Cathy at August 5, 2008 8:50 AMI want to say 1000 Islands but then you wouldn't need to fly from Toronto. Nova Scotia???
Posted by: jennsquared at August 5, 2008 8:52 AMGore Bay? Manitoulin Island?
Posted by: Edie at August 5, 2008 8:53 AMJudging from the crummy weather which looks like Maine's, I'd say you might have taken advantage of the exhange rate and come here! But it's more likely you're in Nova Scotia on the rocky east coast.
Posted by: Connie Cross at August 5, 2008 8:56 AMJudging from the crummy weather which looks like Maine's, I'd say you might have taken advantage of the exhange rate and come here! But it's more likely you're in Nova Scotia on the rocky east coast.

Posted by: Kathleen at August 5, 2008 8:59 AMI think it is in Cape Breton, one of the most beautifulplaces on earth.
Enjoy your holiday!
I'm sincerely convinced it is in Scotland and you are looking at the Shetland Islands- I seem to recognize that blue fog. P.S. I'm from America and I studied the Canadian map for this challenge and that makes us both winners!
Posted by: samantha at August 5, 2008 9:02 AMIs it Loch Ness in Scotland? Your picture is gorgeous!
Posted by: Rachel in WI at August 5, 2008 9:05 AMWell, it's Newfie-land fer sure. Beyond that, can't say.
Posted by: Vicky in Ottawa at August 5, 2008 9:07 AMI think it's Loch Ness in Scotland. So beautiful!! I'm jealous, where ever it is.
Posted by: Valerie at August 5, 2008 9:09 AMI think it must be St John's, Newfoundland. I would (unoriginally) have said it was shot from Signal Hill but there don't seem to be any buildings visible so i will just have to guess that it is a trail in that vicinity.
Posted by: Ciuccia at August 5, 2008 9:13 AMDefinitely Newfoundland...gotta get myself there one day
Posted by: Kirsten at August 5, 2008 9:13 AMI'm guessing Gros Morne or maybe Conception Bay overlooking Bell Island? Have a lovely time.

Posted by: sandra at August 5, 2008 9:21 AMSignal Hill, Newfoundland- looking over the bay -into St John's Harbour - not over the Atlantic (an important difference.
Have some screech for me!
Posted by: Teresa at August 5, 2008 9:23 AMNewfoundland. Signal Hill.
IN CANADA !!!!
I am going to guess PEI (Prince Edward Island).
Posted by: Kelli Miner at August 5, 2008 9:26 AMGreat Britain???!!!
Posted by: Daniella at August 5, 2008 9:27 AMNewfoundland. Standing by a bay with your knitting on a rock on The Rock. Okay, so I don't know exactly.
Posted by: Elizabeth at August 5, 2008 9:29 AMBased on the size of the plane and the knitting progress I would guess that you are in the Maritimes and from the picture, far enough north to be into the Canadian Shield geography. (See, I was paying attention on our Georgian Bay boat cruise in the 30,000 Islands on vacation earlier this month. :-)) We have made several trips to BC but haven't had the pleasure of exploring that Canadian coast yet, so any more specific guess would be copying the folks above who seem to know or throwing a dart at a map. And since my aim with darts isn't so good, I'll stick with The Land of Newfie Joe!

I envy you your trip - it looks lovely and restful.
Posted by: Julie-in-in at August 5, 2008 9:37 AMMy first thought was the Chesapeake bay, but I'm not sure. . .if I'm right, OR if I spelled it correctly!
Posted by: SylverX at August 5, 2008 9:39 AMI'm really not sure. Either Vancouver Island or Newfoundland. But it could be somewhere in Maine or Washington or even Oregon. I don't think you're overseas.
Either way - I'm jealous. It looks gorgeous.
Posted by: Sue at August 5, 2008 9:41 AMI would venture to say somewhere on the northern CA coast like Mendocino, but it's too sunny down there right now.
So, my ultimate guess is either somewhere like Orcas Island or an island off the coast of Victoria, BC.
Posted by: Mel at August 5, 2008 9:47 AMSalt Spring Island, British Columbia, looking towards Vancouver Island, BC is my guess.
Posted by: Jade at August 5, 2008 9:48 AMMaybe it's Washington State? BTW, I just returned from Minnesota (where I visited The Yarnery in St. Paul, they rock!) and knitted on all four planes and in every single meeting session. I taught my friend to knit on the way up, and she was doing it all - cast on, bind off, purling, increases - very well by the time we got home. Then she started with "I wonder if I could..." HA, she is totally hooked - we got another one!!
Posted by: Elizabeth in Apex, NC at August 5, 2008 9:48 AMI don't have a clue, but I'd like to be there, too.

Posted by: cedar at August 5, 2008 10:42 AMI'm guessing the Bay of Fundy, St. John. Just cause, if I go on vacation and run into the Harlot, I think I'll get extra knittin' mojo or something, and actually finish the 4 projects I brought with me! :O)

Hope you enjoy your vacation, but sorry to hear you'll miss stich n pitch tonight in Toronto though. Go Jays Go!!
Posted by: Sandra Bruce at August 5, 2008 11:03 AMOh, Lake Huron. I don't know where you are, but I am from Michigan (now living in Texas) and we used to drive up to the UP and swim in Lake Huron when I was little. I didn't realize how frick fracking cold that water was till I stuck my toe in it as an adult. Man Alive!!! Hope you're having a great trip. Looks wonderful.

Posted by: Susan at August 5, 2008 11:13 AMI have no clue but I love the sleeping lady in the picture of Meg knitting on the plane. Too funny!
Posted by: Becky at August 5, 2008 11:14 AMOh, and if it is Newfoundland, I should say "Whatta ya at"!
Posted by: Julie at August 5, 2008 11:14 AMI am thinking Signal Hill in NFL ...gorgeous and I bet Joe's Mom is glad to be back "home"! and Joe too of course!!
Posted by: Susanne at August 5, 2008 11:18 AMIt looks like the Sleeping Giant in Lake Superior. I've never been, but my mom grew up in Thunder Bay and one of her older sisters made a painting.
Posted by: Angie at August 5, 2008 11:18 AMIt looks like the San Juan Islands to me.
Posted by: Cindi at August 5, 2008 11:18 AMI'm guessing somewhere in Newfoundland. Having not been there before I can't get any more specific than that.
Posted by: Deb at August 5, 2008 11:23 AMBurlington, Vermont. (I wanted to say Maine... But VT stuck)

Posted by: grumpydwarf at August 5, 2008 11:31 AMIt has to be somewhere in Great Britain! I think off the coast of England somewhere...ha ha...how is that for specificity?
Posted by: Claudia at August 5, 2008 11:32 AMI don't know where that photo is taken but it is so beautiful it must be in Canada....
I'm very jealous and happy for you that you could knit on the plane. I just returned from the UK - 7 hours each way and no knitting needles allowed on those flights - I just about went crazy. What is Zoom thinking?
Loch Ness! Or in Scotland. :]
Posted by: Erin at August 5, 2008 11:34 AMNewfoundland? Wherever it is, it looks lovely, as does the sock posing with it. Have a good vacation!
Posted by: Brigid at August 5, 2008 11:36 AMI think you are in Newfoundland, but I'm going for the west coast, more near Stephenville where Joe's from. If you get a chance head south west for Burgeo for a couple of days. If the fog decides to stay away you might get to enjoy beautiful white sandy beaches!
Posted by: Angela at August 5, 2008 11:42 AMI know where you are! Someplace I want to be!!! Ok, so I don't have a clue, but it looks lovely. Have fun!!!

Cape St-Mary's, Newfoundland ?
Outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia?
Posted by: heide at August 5, 2008 12:06 PMI am thinking St. John's Newfoundland
Hope you are having a great time.
Well, I am guessing that, since you made a stop to visit Lake Huron (my second favorite great lake), you flew out of Windsor or Detroit. Logically that suggests you flew west but the airlines don't work that way. Was this photo taken of Vancouver Island from Puget Sound? Have a great trip.
Posted by: Karen at August 5, 2008 12:15 PMYou are some place with very clean air (the lichen needs clean air to grow that well), that rains a lot, and doesn't get to hot--so you are in the north, old solid rock on the coast, on the coast in Canada I would say.
Ok I will say west coast north of Vancouver up along the sunshine coast, on the inland water route.
Where ever it is it looks wonderful--enjoy it!
Posted by: Nancy at August 5, 2008 12:20 PM
I think you've gone back to the McPhee homeland, Scotland, I'm guessing.
Posted by: Sue at August 5, 2008 12:21 PMNot Paris. Everyone on the plane is still smiling, and their eyes are open, so I guess you're not in New Zealand either.
Posted by: Michelene at August 5, 2008 12:24 PMHalifax Harbor, Nova Scotia?
Posted by: Leslie at August 5, 2008 12:25 PMJudging by how my friend describes it, I'll say somewhere in Scotland. At any rate, it looks infinitely cooler than it is here in this bright strident, never-ending heat wave of summer in Kansas USA. Soak up some cool for me.
Posted by: The Captain at August 5, 2008 12:27 PMI'm guessing you're at the Cabot Tower, Signal Hill, St. John's NF. And you got it on a breathtakingly beautiful day.
Posted by: Terri at August 5, 2008 12:28 PMStephanie, Love your work and great blog! Please tel your mother-in-law that she has a wonderful smile!
Posted by: musical karen at August 5, 2008 12:43 PMWould that be Signal Hill, St. Johns, Newfoundland?
Posted by: PattyM at August 5, 2008 12:44 PMCould it be Nova Scotia? Looks a bit like where we honeymooned near the Bay of Fundy. If that's it, go eat at Chez Christoph near St. Mary's Bay!

Posted by: Heather at August 5, 2008 12:55 PMWestern Brook Pond, Newfoundland
Posted by: Deedee Winters at August 5, 2008 12:56 PMNova Scotia is the first place that came into my head, considering you're Canadian, though, never having been to Canada, I ultimately have no clue....it could be anywhere....!!! But being originally from Ireland, it really does look like so much of my home country too.
Posted by: BarbaraMH at August 5, 2008 1:00 PMPrince Edward Island!

Posted by: Kim Christiansen at August 5, 2008 1:07 PMWelcome to Newfoundland!
I'm guessing that you're somewhere on one of the hiking trails around Signal Hill. I'm looking out there from my office window right now, and it's still looking pretty grey!
I think you're in Nova Scotia, specifically - Cape Breton? Have a great vacation! If you're not in Nova Scotia you should totally go!
Posted by: Myrna Patterson at August 5, 2008 1:24 PMOn Salt Spring Island (BC) looking toward Vancouver Island.
Posted by: Marlene at August 5, 2008 1:24 PMI was guessing Scotland, too. Never been there - yearn to go, however. But maybe Nova Scotia instead. If it was named after it, maybe it looks like it. :) But what do I know?
Posted by: deborah at August 5, 2008 1:32 PMThey let you take knitting needles on a plane?
Posted by: Chris at August 5, 2008 1:35 PMWhistler, Vancouver BC- don't ask why
Posted by: Lydia Sheffield at August 5, 2008 1:37 PMYou gave no hints whatsoever, or at least none that I could discern. I'm voting Mt. Revelstoke National Park. Just because Mt. Revelstoke sounds cool.
Posted by: Yvonne at August 5, 2008 1:38 PMI think you are looking down over the Narrows at Signal Hill, St. John's, NL. Have a great trip and hope you get good weather.
Posted by: Pat at August 5, 2008 1:38 PMPortland, OR? Basically I just picked something that I didn't see anyone else pick. ;p

Posted by: allison at August 5, 2008 1:41 PMI don't know where you are, but I think it's incredibly beautiful and I wish I were there. Esp if I were knitting something pink.
Posted by: Eliza at August 5, 2008 1:43 PMCuckold Cove,
Newfoundland.
I'm going with somewhere near St. Johns NFLD, a place I've neer been, but often dream of going... It's too cloudy to be anywhere near Victoria/Vancouver.
Posted by: Janaya at August 5, 2008 1:43 PMColonsay - ancestral home of the clan McPhee ? You did say it would be a great adventure, with time for lots of knitting. Wherever, have a wonderful holiday.

Have fun where ever you are....
Posted by: the other stephanie at August 5, 2008 1:51 PMI'm going to 3rd the guess for Manitoulin Island. Guess #2 (since #1 has already been guessed) is St. Joseph Island?
Posted by: Kelly at August 5, 2008 1:53 PMI don't know where it is, but that photo should be a knitting magazine cover!
Posted by: Lisa at August 5, 2008 1:54 PMThat totally looks like Newfoundland to me. Beautiful sock! Love the pink even though I'm not really one that gravitates towards pink yarns.
Posted by: Sarah at August 5, 2008 1:54 PMNewfoundland. Visiting Joe's dad.
Posted by: jenny at August 5, 2008 1:55 PMI bet you are in Scotland standing on the shore of Loch Ness. Did you see Nessie?

Posted by: Judy at August 5, 2008 1:58 PMLake Louise
it is not too specific
but that is my guess
Probably Newfoundland, but it looks very like Cape Breton, near Ingonish but others have guessed that so I will go to another province and say Forillon National Park, Gaspe. I know it's not the BC coast because it was beautiful yesterday.
Posted by: Carol B at August 5, 2008 2:02 PMMendocino, California, USA?
Probably not but that's where I spent my (too brief) vacation in early June and I have several pictures that look just like that.
Hope ya'll are having a blast!!
Posted by: Kristy at August 5, 2008 2:08 PMVictoria, B.C.? Wherever you are, it sure is pretty!
Posted by: stephanie at August 5, 2008 2:19 PMTrinity Bight, Newfoundland. Just to be different!
Posted by: Kate at August 5, 2008 2:22 PMI'm guessing it's not Newfoundland, as that's where Joe's family (and therefore, MIL) is from. I am also guessing, therefore, west coast of Canada, but that's about as good as I can get. Another vote for somewhere in B.C. (from an American, no less! who grew up on the border of New Brunswick)
Posted by: Blogless Carrie at August 5, 2008 2:22 PMLooks a lot like our photos from a great trip - flew in to Vancouver, spent time on Victoria, family wedding on Salt Spring Island. I guess Salt Spring Island (though I see that's already been done). Fun!
Posted by: Susie at August 5, 2008 2:29 PMGallway Ireland is my guess or at least my hope for you

Posted by: Judith in Ottawa at August 5, 2008 2:36 PMSt. John's Nfld. Signal Hill looking across the harbour. (Looked on map and there is a street on the other side of the hill called Cuckhold's Cove Rd.- love it!)
You've mentioned the Newfoundland connection so this is part of the guess - and there are two yarn shops in St. John's so I'm narrowing it down to that....
Lovely scenery. Enjoy the holiday!
Posted by: Cath at August 5, 2008 2:44 PMI would have to say the answer to Where in the World is ....
Carmen Sandiego!
Hope I'm not the only one who remembers that show :-)

There's a Signal Hill here in CA too, but not as pretty.
Posted by: Wen at August 5, 2008 2:57 PMLoch Ness??? First thing that came to mind.
Posted by: Beth Mahoney at August 5, 2008 2:57 PMCox's Cove, Newfoundland. (Yay, Google!)

Posted by: Rhonda at August 5, 2008 3:08 PMThe photo "feels" Scottish. How about the west coast of Scotland, near the Hebrides. Isle of Skye, maybe?
Close to Gros Morne National Park, north of Pasadena, Newfoundland. Maybe looking out the mouth of St. Paul's Bay from Rt. 430?
Why is there a Pasadena in Newfoundland, btw?
Posted by: Lynn at August 5, 2008 3:19 PMNova Scotia? Anyway, it's gorgeous where you are, and the Hibiscus thing is beautiful too. Have fun!
Posted by: Cathryn at August 5, 2008 3:22 PMNewfoundland

Posted by: Rosalia at August 5, 2008 3:32 PMYou are at the end of the world where everything began and it looks like it is about to rain. You are knitting the rock a rocksock out of socksthatrock.
Posted by: Cat Bordhi at August 5, 2008 3:39 PMIt doesn't look like any part of Vancouver Island that I've been to so far, but there's plenty of places I haven't yet seen, having moved only a few months ago.
If you are here though, I know of a yarn store in Victoria where I could do some serious enabling... ;)
Posted by: Tiffany at August 5, 2008 3:44 PMSmall Plane....Sudbury, Ontario
Posted by: Melanie at August 5, 2008 3:48 PMHmmm
Cape Breton Nova Scotia....
or Victoria BC
wait that's two chances !
I'm just going to guess somewhere on the coast of Alaska - since you seemed you enjoy it there last year when you were on tour. This is a total stab in the dark.
Nice sock! Just supported her so I could get that lovely pattern. :o)
Posted by: Lou at August 5, 2008 3:51 PMOkay, my first thought was Vancouver, but I'll jump to the other coast for my official guess. I will go with my Grandfather's ancestral home, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, and guess you are photographing the Bras D'Or lake.
It would have been SOOOOO much easier if you'd told us how LONG the plane ride was - but I'm guessing not long - you are SUCH a speedy knitter, and if you were on the west coast or in Europe, like some folks have guessed, I think you'd have turned the heel by now. (Of course I have no idea if that was your only plane knitting... maybe you ARE in Ireland and have a scarf, 3 hats, and a shawl finished as well as that sock toe. LOL)
Posted by: Rubenesque at August 5, 2008 3:54 PMOld Joe's backyard.
Posted by: Dawn at August 5, 2008 3:57 PMI think you are in Newfoundland (so am I...squeeee). I can't guess exactly but the weather there is exactly like here in Corner Brook so I'll guess you're in the Bay of Islands someplace.
By the way, I knit socks from that colourway of Megaboot about a year ago. For a while I thought they were going to have to use the jaws of life to pry me out of 'em. Looooooove.
Posted by: Renee the Sequel at August 5, 2008 4:06 PMSomewhere near the Great Glen in Scotland? If your mother-in-law weren't with you then I'd probably say Newfoundland.

Posted by: Nancy at August 5, 2008 4:25 PMJust because no one else has guessed it yet, I'm going to say the Gap of Dunloe in Ireland. I have a postcard that looks remarkably like that photo.
You are in Gros Morne Nataional Park in Newfoundland... I hope :)

Posted by: Linda B. at August 5, 2008 4:48 PMOrcas Island. Considering I'm in Australia, that's a pretty wild guess!
Posted by: Lindy in Australia. at August 5, 2008 4:53 PMIs it Iceland? I've never been but I'm sure that's what Iceland looks like in the summer!!

Umm...I gotta ask...aren't you worried you're putting your pretty pink sock on a slimy dirty spot? Makes for a pretty picture but it makes me all nervous for it...

Posted by: AAcocella at August 5, 2008 5:35 PMErrrrrr... you got me, there... (Haha! That was almost a pun!) Hmmmmmmm... I'm looking at a map of Canada, and everyone seems to be pretty set on Newfoundland (I've never been, but from the pictures I'm seeing, they appear correct.) And so I'll stab a guess at Saint-Pierre Et Miquelo in Newfoundland?
Also, does anyone know if you can knit on planes in the US? I had always assumed you couldn't...
I don't know but I wish I were there. Queen Charlotte Islands?
Posted by: kay at August 5, 2008 5:49 PMWell one thing I know is that you're somewhere I want to be.
One thing I'm not sure of but am guessing because it *looks* right from the pics I saw from my friend in the area.. Signal Hill, Newfoundland? I've never gotten to go myself, but she went and it was just lovely. I was incredibly jealous.

Posted by: Whistlepea at August 5, 2008 6:37 PMSt. John's Newfoundland. I'm here now. It is stunning and gorgeous. I can't get enough. I'm on holidays too but leaving tomorow. The streets in St. John's look like they would be mighty precarious in the winter. St. Johns I think because you are with your mother in law and your husbands family is from newfoundland. Also St. John's becuase the other airports here don't have ocean views that I know of. I am thinking cape spear of cabot tower hill. Both have stunning views like that.
Posted by: PiscesMuse at August 5, 2008 6:39 PMQueen Charlotte City! That's where I would like to be, anyway.
Posted by: Margaret at August 5, 2008 6:51 PMThis is Newfoundland. It looks like the view from the trails around Signal Hill looking down at the Narrows toward Middle Cove. I am envious because I don't get to go home this summer.

Posted by: Ann at August 5, 2008 8:52 PMI'm thinking Newfoundland and I'm thinking you are on Signal Hill at Quidi Vidi Battery looking at Cape Spear across the St.John's harbour gut and just avoiding the village of Quidi Vidi by your clever photography! Have a lovely time!
Posted by: Joan at August 5, 2008 9:02 PMLooks like the straight of Juan de Fuca to me. I want to say Vancouver Island but if it really is the straight, it looks like the Pacific is to the left/west...and that wouldn't be right.
So I'm going to guess the San Juan Islands. Friday Harbor.
Did I win?
Posted by: Carissa at August 5, 2008 9:23 PMHmmmm. Or maybe Dungeoness Spit? That would put you between Sequim and Port Angeles, Washington.
Can I have multiple guesses?
Posted by: Carissa at August 5, 2008 9:28 PMCape Spear, NL from Cuckold's Cove gets my vote. This is my first post after a couple of years of reading the blog and sharing it with several friends, some of whom you have met on your travels,(think Denver, Co and Lexington, KY). There is a Pasadena in Newfoundland because Leonard Earle, founder of Pasadena, NL had visited Pasadena, California before he came here and founded the town I now live in. He saw some similarity, I think. Pasadena means Crown of the Valley and here we sit at the top of the beautiful Humber Valley.

Posted by: Karen at August 5, 2008 10:07 PMI'm going to guess that you are on Vancouver Island. Or possibly that you are looking at Vancouver Island. Where ever you are, I hope you are having a wonderful vacation. Cheers!

Is that a discontinued color? A rare gem?

Posted by: Lesley Ann at August 6, 2008 11:58 AMSOmewhere in Newfoundland I'm guessing...lucky you that you can knit. I'm going on a 12 hour flight on Olympic Airlines and I'm not allowed knitting needles. How am I ever going to sneak them on board, sigh...ciao
Posted by: rositta at August 6, 2008 9:59 PMI have no idea where you are but can I come too? Looks so very pwetty...
Posted by: Erin at August 6, 2008 10:15 PM"Quidi Vidi (say "kitty vitty") Newfoundland. (That's Cape Spear in the distance."
The last picture looks just like the first picture without Joe holding the yarn so I'm guessing it is the same place.
Wherever it is I wish I were there too!
did you return to Orca Island?
Prince Edward Sound? Does that even exist? It just popped into my head.
Posted by: Jennie at August 7, 2008 12:21 PMSignal Hill...specifically, the Ladies Walk (or Lookout? something like that.)
I have a similar penguin shot: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3197/2742669968_469e4579f8_m.jpg

Stephanie,
I just happened to come across a little thing on what I think is the Food Channel, and they were renovating the Old York Bar and Grill. Listening to people's accents, and the fact that the check by the owner to the renovators was from CIBC, I was guessing that they were in Canada. Right at the end, some of her friends came in to the restaurant...were you there? Did I catch that quick view of you there?
(I live in Arizona, but lived in Ontario for for 9 years...some things are a dead giveaway...)
By the way, could that photo be on Georgian Bay?
Funny how the comments come out when free yarn is mentioned. It seems you enjoyed your vacation as much as I did mine. Anything that involves a view of the sea and a sock is paradise for me.
Posted by: marie in NJ at August 9, 2008 8:16 PMNot sure if it is too late but i think it is cuckold's cove.
Posted by: martina at August 12, 2008 8:38 AMThe picture is taken from the north side of Quidi Vidi Gut. Maybe the same day you visited the great little pub, - I know it well.
