I cannot get any Kauni locally but I am dying to knit with it from what I have seen others make on Ravelry. Please use it and then let me know how it goes. I don't want to buy yarn and have to fussy cut it apart all the time to keep the gradience working. I love the cowl and am especially thrilled with how it matched her coat. Now she will need mittens and a scarf to match.

Nice cowl! Just an FYI... I am sure you know this but the Kauni is very scratchy. This may not be something you want around your neck unless you have a turtle neck on.

And here I am just gobsmacked that you knit 600 yds of fingering in just over a week! Totally jealous, of the speed and the cowl. :D

I think the eq colorway would be lovely! Can't wait to see which you choose.

Does having your own teen wanting to buy your knitwork mean that you are in her eyes now officially a famous knitter? We know you are, but when your own kids aknowledge that, that would make me feel goooood! I knew where it was going to be, something green and lit above it. I totally get the cupboard thing, I have my own chaotic ordre and when someone Murphy's that, I get strange things happening, like pouring ground coffee in the sugarbowl. I can closed-eyed find the coffee and sugarcan, so why someone thinks it does not matter which is at the left and which on the right, I will put my personal chaos right where it belongs again, ground coffee just does not taste well in sweet puddings!

I can't believe the price of Kauni. I can buy the same yarn straight from the factory and the price is 5-6 times cheaper.

It occurred to me later last night, after I had commented on the great use of the flight time, that it was hours of knitting to finish that cowl so fast. How do you protect your wrists from overuse? I'm a secretary and on heavy typing days, I usually have to skip knitting that evening. Do you take "rests" to protect your wrists and hands?

How do you get Kauni soft? I love it and the colorways, made a Swiss Cheese scarf but find it very scratchy even after multiple soaks and some hair conditioner soaking.

To Kathleen at 8:49 AM- knitters vary widely in how much wrist they use knitting. I'm a heavy typist too, and have had repetitive strain problems for years- but I can knit literally all day without any wrist distress. And if you could see me, you'd know why- my wrists barely move. If you went to YouTube and watched one of the videos of Stephanie knitting, you'd see the same thing- she's got a very efficient style with minimal hand movement- I doubt she needs many breaks. One of these days I need to find a similarly efficient way to crochet- now *that* kills my wrists.

I loved knitting with kauni and the colourways are fabulous but I do find it a bit scratchy. I made a shawl and have to keep it on my shoulders because it feels too scratchy to hug my neck. I softened it in a vinegar rinse and then hair conditioner, which helped, but it didn't get soft enough for a scarf or cowl that I could wear on my neck. But then everyone is different so it might be fine for some folks.

Could you please explain how you adjusted the cowl for the yardage in the Paintbox kit? (the cowl pattern shows required yardage at more than 600 yards, but the Paintbox gradients have a bit more than 400 yards).

That's patience on your part - making her wait - I probably would have given it to her right away. But I am with you - I would have changed the position of the mugs to the right way!!!

I think you need to give her the cowl now as an early Christmas present. And then on Christmas day, you can stick a photo of this in a card and remind her that this is one of her presents. By then, the thing will be well-loved and well-worn.

She deserves this present given all of her modeling work for the blog. She even goes outdoors in the Canadian winter and stands around for photos. And I know I saw her once out there with her shoes off near the snow while modeling new socks. I never see the kind of attitude that I might have had as a teenager under those circumstances.

Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Sorry for the huge review, but I'm really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it's the right choice for you.

Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.

Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune.
