We left Lake Huron, and flew to the next stop on our vacation. We knit on the plane.

  3. I’d hazard a guess that the “here” you’re referring to is Signal Hill, St Johns NF. If it’s not, it sure is a pretty view anyway.

  35. I agree that this looks like Newfoundland – I just got back from there last night! The only place I can think this might be is the Signal Hill hike, which I didn’t do, but some of the pictures I got from up on Signal Hill look very similar, just at a different angle. I was only on that one side of the island, though, so it could be somewhere else, too.

  40. It’s cloudy so I’m going to guess the western side of Victoria Island. I grew up in SE Alaska and that was a familiar sight even in summer!

  44. Looks like the subtle eastern shores of Canada, perhaps Newfoundland looking upon Prince Edward Island? Although I have never been there, I grew up on Vancouver Island where our coast is much different. Enjoy your family holiday!

  66. I am almost positive it is Cuckold’s Cove, just outside of St.John’s, and you are looking out towards Cape Spear. St.John’s is my new home but these sights are becoming familiar.

  68. Second guess. If the North Head guess is wrong, I’ll toss in “Cuckold Cove” specifically, on the Cuckold Cove trail. The fact that you *can’t* see Fort Amherst makes me think that you’re further up the Grand Concourse.

  78. I’m going to go with Signal Hill as well. You couldn’t have flown to Ireland or Scotland, or you’d have a lot more knitting done. Same story for British Columbia, Washington state, or Alaska. It’s definitely not Bar Harbor, and the cliffs are too tall for PEI or Nova Scotia. Cape Breton is a possibility, but it doesn’t look quite right for Cape Breton. So I’ll join the Signal Hill group.
    Do we all get a skein? You’ll do quite a job on the stash if so.

  87. It looks like near where the crazy tides are in New Brunswick (or is it Newfoundland?). One of those Atlantic Provinces! I’ve always wanted to visit there, and this looks like the tourism photos 🙂 Very pretty wherever you are!

  89. I think you are in Ireland, looking at Sleahead, the farthest west point in the EU. So, more specifically the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry. And Ryan’s Daughter was filmed there. So maybe you’re taking this photo from the N70, sort of heading towards Tralee. Am I right? If I’m right, I feel special, if not I feel like a big dork. Have fun wherever you are!

  91. Definitely west coast of Newfoundland. I would recognize those lichen-covered granite rocks anywhere. Corner Brook has already been guessed, so I will say it’s farther out Bay St. George…..say Benoit’s Cove just because I used to date a nice boy from there. 🙂 or Lark Harbour.

    (But i think maybe BC an the atlantic provences are neck in neck for being beautiful.)

    Since I seem to remember Joe is from Newfoundland, it’s probably somewhere there — but since I haven’t been there, I don’t know any place there to guess. Based on a net search Tors Cove looks promising (tho’ Tickle Cove has a better name ;).

Since you took a plane and Corner Brook isn’t that near water, I’m guessing St. Johns, up on the hill, about a half a block left of that little yellow house where the guy lived whose brother was in that jam commercial with the tall girl with the curly hair – what was her name now? Anyway, her cousin knows my sister; she said there was never anything between them and the judge blew it all out of proportion anyway.

  246. From the sound of my heart breaking, I’d have to say you’re in Newfoundland. But where….. hmmm. Quiddi Viddi would be a good guess, they have the beer. Jim said Trinity, but that would be too far a drive for you to make in one day with flying. One final guess would be Conception Bay, that’s where Uncle Albert Nolan and Aunt Mary live. They live on Foxtrap Road. If you’re nearby, stop in and say Hi. Albert makes the best cod cheeks and tongues, and they love knitters and visitors!

  256. I have no clue where you are, I’ve traveled in a very limited way. Coast looks rocky like Maine-but further north. Atlantic-North America side, by the amount of the knitting you’ve done on that sock. I use metal circular needles on my socks when flying (how’d I ever crawl around in the cramped quarters of a plane when I’d inevitably let a double-pointed slip to the floor?!). And I like the “magic loop” method. Went to the website and got the pattern-lovely!! Can’t wait to knit it up in a soft green I have. Thanks for posting it.

  264. Based on a hunch and some quick research on a Newfoundland site that offers panoramic shots, I’m guessing you are on or near Signal Hill. (I found one shot that sort of looked similar to your pic.) Wherever it is, it looks lovely. And I loved the stone sculpture from the previous post.

I loooooove the idea of a knitter’s row in the flight and I’m pretty sure that the flight attendant was delighted to be amused in such a crafty way!!!

  356. Oh, Lake Huron. I don’t know where you are, but I am from Michigan (now living in Texas) and we used to drive up to the UP and swim in Lake Huron when I was little. I didn’t realize how frick fracking cold that water was till I stuck my toe in it as an adult. Man Alive!!! Hope you’re having a great trip. Looks wonderful.

  486. St. John’s Newfoundland. I’m here now. It is stunning and gorgeous. I can’t get enough. I’m on holidays too but leaving tomorow. The streets in St. John’s look like they would be mighty precarious in the winter. St. Johns I think because you are with your mother in law and your husbands family is from newfoundland. Also St. John’s becuase the other airports here don’t have ocean views that I know of. I am thinking cape spear of cabot tower hill. Both have stunning views like that.

  505. Cape Spear, NL from Cuckold’s Cove gets my vote. This is my first post after a couple of years of reading the blog and sharing it with several friends, some of whom you have met on your travels,(think Denver, Co and Lexington, KY). There is a Pasadena in Newfoundland because Leonard Earle, founder of Pasadena, NL had visited Pasadena, California before he came here and founded the town I now live in. He saw some similarity, I think. Pasadena means Crown of the Valley and here we sit at the top of the beautiful Humber Valley.

    I just happened to come across a little thing on what I think is the Food Channel, and they were renovating the Old York Bar and Grill. Listening to people’s accents, and the fact that the check by the owner to the renovators was from CIBC, I was guessing that they were in Canada. Right at the end, some of her friends came in to the restaurant…were you there? Did I catch that quick view of you there?
    (I live in Arizona, but lived in Ontario for for 9 years…some things are a dead giveaway…)
    By the way, could that photo be on Georgian Bay?
