We left Lake Huron, and flew to the next stop on our vacation. We knit on the plane.
My mother-in-law Carol knit on the plane:
Meg knit on the plane:
I knit on the plane.
(That’s STR lightweight in Rosebud, in the beginnings of a Hibiscus for Hope.)
The flight attendant laughed every time she walked by our row. Then we got here.
Where’s here? You guess. I’ll send a skein of yarn (when I get home) to the person who guesses where I was standing when I took this picture. Be specific if you can… the closer you are, the better your chances.
Somewhere in BC?
I don’t know where you are, but it sure looks serene.
I’d hazard a guess that the “here” you’re referring to is Signal Hill, St Johns NF. If it’s not, it sure is a pretty view anyway.
I don’t pretend to know where you are, but it looks just beautiful… Have a lovely vacation. I can’t wait for mine to start on Sunday.
canada! (I’m from Australia eh??)
Close to St. John’s, Newfoundland??
Paradise, of course!
on a hill overlooking water with woodland flowers and knitting in front of you.
sorry. couldn’t resist.
It’s not Grand Manaan, is it?
Well wherever it is it sure looks coastal and serene! Happy knitting/vacationing to all.
Looks like Scotland! (Probably isn’t).
Hmmm Canadian side of Niagra falls?
Scotland.
Somewhere in Gros Morne? Woody Point to score more yarn?
Uhm… let me guess. You are standing next to your family. Better yet, you are behind the camera! Geographically speaking, let me stab my finger on the globe. It’ll be closer.
Are you going to take an Alaskan cruise?
The scenery reminds me of my last visit to the Pacific coast, so I am going to guess you are on Vancouver Island.
Wherever it is, it looks lovely and I wish I were there!
I have no idea where you are so won’t hazard a guess, altho it looks beautiful! I just looked up the pattern you highlight – I love it – Knitters for Knockers! I think I will have to join that. Another commenter guessed Scotland – I hope it is someplace wonderful like that! Have a great vacation!
I’m guessing the west coast somewhere close to the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland!
Love those socks!
Looks like Paradise to me…but I’m guessing…the Bay of Fundy?
Cap D’Or, Nova Scotia?
san juan islands, washington??…but oh boy that rosebud colorway is purty…
Bay of Fundy?… but what side? Several others have suggested Newfoundland, but I’m going to be contrary and say Nova Scotia.
Vancouver? Happy Vacationing!
P.S. Manon…she is beautiful, can’t wait to see it finished.
St. John’s harbor (harbour) NF? Photo from Signal Hill? It’s beautiful . . . wherever you are. Enjoy!
Looks Like Newfoundland (the weather is a give-away – it’s RDF here today). I’m going to guess somewhere near Lamanche, looking south?
Cape Breton 🙂
I guess you are somewhere very close to the house where Joe’s parents live!
Paradise. As simple and as complex as that; you are in paradise.
I’m guessing the Northwest US–either northern Oregon or southern Washington state. Wherever you are its beautiful! Have fun!
Jane
I think you’re in Johnstone Straight, but they don’t have wireless there.
Western Brook Pond.
The Aran Islands, Ireland. The perfect place for three knitters to visit, dontcha think?
PEI?
I agree that this looks like Newfoundland – I just got back from there last night! The only place I can think this might be is the Signal Hill hike, which I didn’t do, but some of the pictures I got from up on Signal Hill look very similar, just at a different angle. I was only on that one side of the island, though, so it could be somewhere else, too.
Prince Edward Island? Just because it’s the first thing that popped into my head.
Ok, I’ll bite. I think you’re on the North Head Trail in St. John’s. I’m going to go one step further and say that you’re on top of Signal Hill
Scotland, overlooking a loch – OR – Nova Scotia. These guesses are not good enough for a prize, but it was nice to see the photo.
Somewhere in Maine, near Bar Harbour?
It’s cloudy so I’m going to guess the western side of Victoria Island. I grew up in SE Alaska and that was a familiar sight even in summer!
Newfoundland, where Joe grew up? I think I’m remembering that right, no idea.
I’ll guess Vancouver Island, looking toward Washington.
I’m guessing Connamaera on the West coast of Ireland.
Looks like the subtle eastern shores of Canada, perhaps Newfoundland looking upon Prince Edward Island? Although I have never been there, I grew up on Vancouver Island where our coast is much different. Enjoy your family holiday!
On one of the shores of one of the great lakes? Its my best guess. have a great time, wish I were there, knitting away with all you McPhee women!
Hm. Sleeping Giant Provincial Park?
I’m guessing it’s the Bay of Fundy. Wherever it is, it’s absolutely beautiful.
This is Ireland, definitely! 😉
What a beautiful place to be – I think you’re in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. (I know you’re not on Vancouver Island, because I am and it is hot and sunny here!)
Have a great holiday
Nadine
Gros Morne National Park?
I’m guessing Ireland. Dingle Peninsula?
Not here. You’re in a whole another beautiful place.
Dang, that’s a gorgeous sky!
Prince Edward Island?
I’m thinking the northern coast of Minneasota. There’s a lighthouse up there that has a similar view.
Olympic Peninsula in Washington State?
Nova Scotia……… ?????
Somewhere not far from my favourite part of Ontario – Thunder Bay
Iceland?
St. John’s, Signal Hill.
The town you had pictures of that has the most wonderful name I have ever heard:-like Giggle Wiggle??? I know that’s not it but you what I mean.
That town’s name makes me want to live there-never mind how beautiful it is.
Is that specific enough??LOL
Vancouver! I’m guessing Victoria?
Cape Spear in Newfoundland. Big, bright and cold.
Earth.
My guess: Scotland, inspecific, somewhere on the west coast or the islands.
Orcas Island, Wa, USA. Maybe looking at Cypress and Blakely Islands or back toward the ferry terminal?
Have fun where ever you may be!
I am almost positive it is Cuckold’s Cove, just outside of St.John’s, and you are looking out towards Cape Spear. St.John’s is my new home but these sights are becoming familiar.
Cape St. Mary’s, Nfld, or Cape Spear, Nfld – my favorite place in the world!
…ps. if I am even close to correct on the Nfld. thing, I will be annoyed that I missed you by two weeks. Two weeks!! We could have had a lot of fun, y’know….:-)
Second guess. If the North Head guess is wrong, I’ll toss in “Cuckold Cove” specifically, on the Cuckold Cove trail. The fact that you *can’t* see Fort Amherst makes me think that you’re further up the Grand Concourse.
Man … this is HARD!!!!
Loch Ness, Scotland.
St Pauls Bay, Gros Morne National Park.
It’s very close to Quidi Vidi, in case I spelled the name wrong.
Darn it, Amy B.! You’re absolutely right! Check here for a wintertime picture of this *EXACT* spot.
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://farm1.static.flickr.com/184/432850947_b759232f11.jpg%3Fv%3D0&imgrefurl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/jerry_curtis/432850947/&h=375&w=500&sz=162&hl=en&start=2&um=1&tbnid=ZY832D_J9ZCZHM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3D%2522cuckold%2Bcove%2522%2B%2522St.%2BJohn%2527s%2522%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN
And here I was all excited that I’d be the one to get it. Crap. 2 minutes late.
Darn it, Amy B.! You’re absolutely right! Check here for a wintertime picture of this *EXACT* spot.

And here I was all excited that I’d be the one to get it. Crap. 2 minutes late.
what a lovely view…..overlooking georgia strait, in british columbia.
Here’s a wild guess-How about on the coast of Ireland somewhere?
Have fun!
I guess Newfoundland!
Maybe its just because I think I’d like to be there right now!
Loch Lomand, Scotland???
I’m going to go with Signal Hill as well. You couldn’t have flown to Ireland or Scotland, or you’d have a lot more knitting done. Same story for British Columbia, Washington state, or Alaska. It’s definitely not Bar Harbor, and the cliffs are too tall for PEI or Nova Scotia. Cape Breton is a possibility, but it doesn’t look quite right for Cape Breton. So I’ll join the Signal Hill group.
Do we all get a skein? You’ll do quite a job on the stash if so.
New Zealand. Um, Christchurch. (Only town I can think of there).
I am going to go out on a limb and say somewhere in beautiful Canada! Wherever it is, it looks heavenly and I wish I were there too! Enjoy it! 🙂
Is it the Bruce Peninsula?
Nova Scotia. Or Prince Edward’s Island.
Polar Bear Provincial Park on Hudson Bay. I looked at a map, and that sounded good!
Macinaw island?
Bras d’Or Lake, Cape Breton
looking at the narrows on signal hill NF
It looks like near where the crazy tides are in New Brunswick (or is it Newfoundland?). One of those Atlantic Provinces! I’ve always wanted to visit there, and this looks like the tourism photos 🙂 Very pretty wherever you are!
Looks a lot like Cape Breton to me. Lucky you!
I think you are in Ireland, looking at Sleahead, the farthest west point in the EU. So, more specifically the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry. And Ryan’s Daughter was filmed there. So maybe you’re taking this photo from the N70, sort of heading towards Tralee. Am I right? If I’m right, I feel special, if not I feel like a big dork. Have fun wherever you are!
Taking a random guess here (and looking at a map)… Parry Sound?
Definitely west coast of Newfoundland. I would recognize those lichen-covered granite rocks anywhere. Corner Brook has already been guessed, so I will say it’s farther out Bay St. George…..say Benoit’s Cove just because I used to date a nice boy from there. 🙂 or Lark Harbour.
Say hi to my hometown for me, from a displaced Corner Brooker.
You are standing on the precipice of indecision stuck between terra firma and the beckoning sea of uncharted waters, trying to figure out whether to jump on in ‘cuz the water’s fine and continue with sock number two or stick to solid earth and finish the first sock begun at the nature installation of the young man as an andy-goldworthy-type artist.
But that’s just a guest.
And I really need to get out more…
This looks for all the world like the Cape Breton Highlands….my husband and I went there on our honeymoon. I can’t really tell without looking at the beaches…but maybe it’s the other coast entirely…Vancouver?
I’m thinking the people who are guessing the maritime providences are probably correct but my shot in the dark is Thunder Bay, Ont.
Errrrrrrr . . . I don’t see big trees, so I’m thinking farther North, maybe Newfoundland or Labrador, and yes, that’s the big net I’m throwing out.
Usually after a vacation, I head home again, but you weren’t. I was going to go with Nova Scotia, having been there a long long time ago. So let’s go out on a limb and guess that you are at Fleece Artist.
It looks like the south coast of Devon England to me. Though they wouldn’t let me take my knitting onto the plane last time I flew home – How did ya do it? Please tell me how you got enough knitting for 3 people on there?!
Looks like Cape Blomidon from the other side (Parrsboro, Five Islands Provincial Park, …?)
I’m looking at it from the south side (or at least I would be if it weren’t dark and raining).
Loch Ness?
St. John’s, Newfoundland?
You were exactly where I want to be right now. Jeez, that looks beautiful.
hrm. you are… someplace I’d really like to be, namely, out of my cubicle. wish I were there!
I would guess east coast Canada, Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. I also want to know how you were allowed knitting needles on a plane. I didn’t bother to take mine on a 4 hour flight because I assumed they would not be allowed.
OMG, ye are in Scotland, land o’ the Scots! Either that or Newfoundland, in which case I’m equally jealous, and hope you’ll say a good Queens’ hello (as in NYC, not Elizabeth, so “howYOUdoin'” will do it then fuggedaboudit) to Robyn (http://www.myfairisle.blogspot.com/) and maybe visit her House Museum. 🙂
????Lake Tahoe?????
Have a great time where ever you are.
Vancouver Island, BC
On that freaky trail built for mountain goats and fearless hikers that goes down the back of Signal Hill.
Where I’ll be in October.
Deception Pass, Washington State (the most BEAUTIFUL of all the states!)
My guess is somewhere near the Battery, in St. John’s, NL… I just got back from St. John’s a few hours ago and it was definitely overcast when I left!
Gros Morne, Nfld.
Hmmm, How long was your plane ride 🙂 that would narrow it down for me….
I’m guessing Nova Scotia, maybe looking out at Blomidon (I don’t remember how to spell Blomidon but you know where I mean?)
On a slope, next to a rock, overlooking a lake. 😉 Not a clue as to where in the world your particular version of that combo exists, but it looks lovely.
St Johns – Right? Either that or a view very close to your in-laws house – I remember it from another photo…….
On Vancouver Island, BC, looking north (on the north west side of the island)
and if not.. keep it a secret–its obvious a place of beauty, and you don’t want it over run by (US) americans!
(but it could also be NS, or maybe even PEI–i think NS is one of the prettiest places in NA, and i am told (and will have to take on trust) the PEI is even prettier..
(But i think maybe BC an the atlantic provences are neck in neck for being beautiful.)
You are so in Ireland! I’m guessing the southern coast, although it also looks a lot like the Dingle peninsula, where my family is from.
Have a stunningly wonderful vacation, you deserve it!!
Hmmmm, looks like Newfoundland to me, but where specifically is the tougher part! Anywhere near L’anse aux meadeaux?
Quadra Island, B.C?
Islands off Washington State, USA.
ENJOY your well earned vacation Stephanie!
Maybe you’re at Hudson Bay?? That would be a short plane flight. But Where ever that is its gorgeous.
No idea, Ireland, maybe? In anycase, I wish I was there.
Victoria Island, BC
Looks like the puget sound or the Strait of Juan de fuca but I’m guessing it is further West. all the way to Hawaii.
Signal Hill, St. John’s, NL
looking out to sea…
and I’m jealous. (Even if I’m not right… just thinking about that place and the possibility that you are there…) I’ve just been there once, and it was over 20 years ago, and I’ll have to get back to the Rock again someday!
i’m guessing the san juans for sock camp, since you’re all knitting socks.
The Isle of Skye? If so, have some Talisker for me 🙂
Either way, it looks gorgeous!
Wild guess,
USA, Washington, San Jaun Islands???
I’m probably wrong, but with an offer like free yarn, who could turn down the chance!
Where ever it is I’m sure you’ll have fun!
~Emma
Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia,
Regarding what I said earlier about Fleece Artist, I’ve come to understand it’s a bit inland, so I’ll guess the closest water bit on the map which is at the end of mineville road there.
Trinity Bay Newfoundland?
The west coast of NFLD is more fjordy and the weather in the photo looks like newfoundland.
I was thinking Acadia National Park. Someone else mentioned Bar Harbor. I’ll say near the Info Center south of Trenton.
Nanaimo? Looks Pacific Northwest-ish to me!
You’re in Newfoundland, but where is a good question. I’m going to guess that you’re at Shallow Bay.
Love them both.
Kayla
You’re in Newfoundland, but where is a good question. I’m going to guess that you’re at Shallow Bay.
Love them both.
Kayla
Do we get credit for guessing where you’re NOT? Cause you’re sure not in Florida! That view is just heavenly! Oh wait…you’re not in heaven, are you?
What a beautiful sight!
Bell Island.
Prince Edward Island?
It is the Sleeping Giant near Thunder Bay Ontario.
maybe you’re hiking on the East Coast Trail in Newfoundland… between Port Kirwin and Aquaforte?
Looks like Cape Breton Island. Cape Smokey/Ingish area near the National Park?
Cape Split or blomidon in NS
Knitting Heaven.
Faroe island? Scotland? Norway? Toronto 🙂
The scenery is gorgeous.
I guess Desolation Sound/Sunshine Coast, BC or the western coastline of Newfoundland/Gros Morne National Park or Signal Hill, NF. Too many guesses, I got carried away. 🙂 Wherever it is, I’d love to see it someday.
Quidi Vidi, Newfoundland, looking east
Lake Louise? it looks like an awesome view from here 🙂
Cuckhold’s Hill (or is it Cove?), just north of Signal Hill, looking south toward Cape Spear.
Looks like Signal Hill in NL to me.
Acadia National Park, Me.
Great socks!! I love that everyone was knitting.
Trish
Orkney Islands, Scotland
Well, since everyone is seated facing that way —>
It means you must have gone East, right?
I guess Newfoundland! 🙂
as seen from Pentland?
Shetland.
Signal Hill, just before the chain rail.
by St. John’s or Niagra Falls?
Newfoundland
McNab’s Island
hillsborough bay, prince edward island? my other guess was the pacific northwest, bc. where ever you are it looks beautiful and i wish i was there!
Another vote for Signal Hill, we are an obsessed group!!!!!!!!!!
PEI..
To me — it looks a lot like Briggis, Newfoundland … it has a definate Newfie flavor to it.
I’m taking a wild guess based on a Google map – Vancouver Island, but specifically, Pacific Rim National Park. It looks like that would be a beautiful place and “naturey” which your family would like.
you are where Joe’s Dad lives
I’ll guess Conception Bay Newfoundland.
I feel like I cheated but I looked up the two places that seemed most likely, scenery wise and came up with this:
You’re looking at Cape Spear from Cuckold’s Cove, near Quidi Vidi in NF.
I’m gonna guess PEI, but it really could be anywhere on either coast of Canada.
Thunder Bay, Ontario
feels like NF to me.. but where, i do not know. it looks like you can breathe there tho.
St John’s, Newfoundland??
Gorgeous.
i’d guess the nw coast of Ireland…looks celtic
I have no idea where you are but it looks gorgeous. And it looks cool. We are sweltering in 100 degree temperatures right now. Enjoy. Jane
I was going to guess lock ness in scottland, but someone said that. I am going with Norway now. I have no particular knowledge of Norway. I just always thought it would be cool to see a fjord.
Cape Breton?
sooke
Newport, Oregon?
I’m guessing the UK. If I have to be more specific, I’d say Scotland. Or Ireland. Wait, Wales looks like that, too. And so do parts of England… uh, maybe I should just stick with my original guess.
Victoria BC. Vancouver Island to be exact?
Cabot Trail? Yay, my first post!
Are you visiting Cat Bordhi?
Looks a whole lot like the San Juan Islands to me…
Heaven, definately heaven. i haven’t been yet but that’s what i dream it’s like!!! tina’s str is the icing in heaven!
Bay of Fundy, Newfoundland. 🙂
Darnit, I meant to say Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick!!!
I haven’t the slightest idea in the world where you are, but it looks absolutely lovely and once I know where it is will go on my list of places to visit!
Rocky Harbor, Gros Morne Newfoundland?
It looks like your in my back yard – and if you are, I’m pissed because I’m not there! My guess is that you are on the Bonavista Peninsula in Newfoundland.
I love that knitting on the plane. I’m sort of disappointed that none of you made an attempt at getting the flight attendant to knit. Now THAT would have made a great blog picture/entry.
As for where you’re standing…uh, on a rock. Oh, wait, you said be specific. OK, then, you’re standing on a BIG rock. A big grayish rock with moss on it. A big grayish rock with moss on it that overlooks some pretty yellow flowers and some water. There, that specific enough for ya?!
Western Newfoundland… maybe near Gros Morne or Bonne Bay?
western brook pond in gros morne nat’l pk
my guess Vancouver Island Pacific Rim, near Tofino. wherever it is it looks amazing.
I am going to go with Signal Hill near St Johns Newfoundland, or somewhere nearby. It looks like that bay.
beautiful!
Ireland?
I say Sioux Lookout!
Signal Hill. Looking east. Can’t guess any more narrowly than that.
Paradise! Just a guess – Thunder Bay?
St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Enjoy where ever!
Newfoundland, for sure. Atlantic ocean. That’s all I’ve got.
Iceland???
Ireland perhaps?
The Battery overlooking St. John’s Harbor, Newfoundland
British Virgin Islands, maybe Virgin Gorda?
Cape Breton. On the Cabot Trail. And if I had to be more specific, I’d say somewhere between Meat Cove and Ingonish.
And enjoy your stop at Baadeck Yarns! 🙂
I’m guessing Newfoundland, too…are you on the Viking Trail?
Could it be .. oh, I don’t know .. the beginning of Lake Erie? Just a wild and crazy guess!
I’m guessing some where on P.E.I. I can’t be more specific…maybe I’m just guessing that because I’m rereading “Anne”. My favourite postpardum (sp) reading. : )
You are in Scotland and that is the lock where Nessie lives…..
I will give a shot at one of the fjords in Norway. Beautiful view! Have fun!
Newfoundland, for sure. I’m going to chance west-coast, perhaps near Corner Brook?
Goose Bay?
Based on the amount of knitting you got done on the plane, you must be in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia.
I’ll bet you flew into St. John’s, but more specifically where the photo was taken, dunno – Prince Edward Island?
It looks like White Point, Nova Scotia.
looks like PEI to me – and i am basing that on your love of biking vacations and it is a great place for a biking vacation!!! have a great trip!
The Bay of Fundy?
I am guessing Newfoundland, Signal Hill
Shetland Islands? Fair Isle, more specifically?
vancouver island
It certainly does look like a Great Lake site. I agree with the folks above who guessed Sleeping Giant Provincial Park near Thunder Bay Ontario. Wherever you are, have a great time!
Juneau or maybe North Douglas Island? Maybe not.
Well, after naming Megan’s baby Athena, but never one to give up…Sibley Peninsula aka the Sleeping Giant, Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Happy vacation, wherever you are!
Near Deception Pass on Whidbey Island, Washington.
My first thought was Newfoundland and second Monhegan Island off the coast of Maine. I’ve never been to either of these places but the picture looks like I imagine them to be!
somewhere in/near acadia national park on mt. desert island in maine??
Wherever it is, I want to go!
I’d say you’re visiting Brenda Dayne in Wales because that’s what it screamed to me at first, but it also really looks like Ireland. Either way, it’s beautiful & I’d like to be there too!!
Looks to me like you are on PEI and viewing Cape Breton Island. But reviewing my pix, Cape Breton is further away… Hmmm… Looks beautiful, though. Can’t wait to find out where!
I think you are on Vancouver Island in BC 🙂
I’m going wild and guessing somewhere in vermont.
Are you in Alberta at Lake Louise?? That’s where I am going soon. I am in Edmonton, and on my way to Jasper and then Banff. What if I saw you there? I promise I would not stalk! Even tho I am from Texas. We are avoiding a hurricane and 100+ F weather by being here in Canada. Whew
Nancy
Digby, Nova Scotia Have the scallops!
I’m guessing Newfoundland?
My guess is Meat Cove in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (altho’ if it were really Meat Cove, your sock would’ve blown away ;).
Since I seem to remember Joe is from Newfoundland, it’s probably somewhere there — but since I haven’t been there, I don’t know any place there to guess. Based on a net search Tors Cove looks promising (tho’ Tickle Cove has a better name ;).
I was totally going to say Signal Hill in St. Johns Newfoundland, then I clicked on the comments and saw it was already guessed by the third guess!!!
I’m sticking with it though…
🙂
(I read all the time, but I think this is my first comment…)
hmm newfoundland. St john’s mostly likely?
My geographical skills are lacking, but the phrase “likely to be eaten by a grue” popped into my head.
Yep, I know, not even close. Too much Zork, not enough studying for finals. But I have to cut myself some slack, it was 20-some years ago. How many some? Not sayin’
After more net searching, I second Cuckold’s Cove in Newfoundland — it looks more promising than Tors or Tickle Cove….
I’m going to guess cape breton, right up close to Bradour (bras d’or?)
Stephanie, I have a neat gift/toy for you.
There’s a website called wordle.net. It’s spiffy. You drop in a chunk of your writing, your blog, whatever, and it makes word art from the contents, showing what you speak or think about most frequently. I dropped the last few days in and got this:
http://wordle.net/gallery/wrdl/105532/For_Stephanie
Hope it’s fun.
D
Gaspé.
Newfoundland. Near Rocky Harbour.
NOT Corning, NY. 🙂
I’m going to go with Newfoundland. Since you took a plane and Corner Brook isn’t that near water, I’m guessing St. Johns, up on the hill, about a half a block left of that little yellow house where the guy lived whose brother was in that jam commercial with the tall girl with the curly hair – what was her name now? Anyway, her cousin knows my sister; she said there was never anything between them and the judge blew it all out of proportion anyway.
Happy vacation.
La Tortuga, Costa Rica? One could hope, huh?
Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland? Looks pretty 😉
Heaven?
Signal Hill, St. John’s, Newfoundland
(by detective work-I used Google Earth until I found someone who had posted a photo with quite a similar outlook) so I’m going with the Signal Hill group! 🙂
How about the coast of Maine?
If Joe is with you, too, then wherever it is, it’s home.
I’ll go with signal hill too. Or to be more general, looking over a really pretty inlet to a large body of water somewhere with clouds
From the sound of my heart breaking, I’d have to say you’re in Newfoundland. But where….. hmmm. Quiddi Viddi would be a good guess, they have the beer. Jim said Trinity, but that would be too far a drive for you to make in one day with flying. One final guess would be Conception Bay, that’s where Uncle Albert Nolan and Aunt Mary live. They live on Foxtrap Road. If you’re nearby, stop in and say Hi. Albert makes the best cod cheeks and tongues, and they love knitters and visitors!
Nova Scotia? I think that you took too little knitting to make it a long flight.
Loch Ness?
well, you’re definitely not on the west coast because my grandparents say it was sunny today. not cloudy. but if you ARE on the west coast my bet is for: gabriola island OR bowen island. you choose. xo
Ireland? Looks so green!
Anderson cove, East Sooke wilderness, Vancouver Island BC. At least it looks just like it when you get out to the overlook point area.
Looks like the Sleeping Giant at Thunder Bay, Ontario. Happy vacation.
Looks like Nova Scotia (which looks a lot like Scotland) to me, but I’m just wondering how you got metal sock needles on an airplane, since mine were confiscated by security.
alaskan coast somewhere. we’ve been overcast for weeks but it sort of seems familiar somehow, your photo. hmmmmm….still beautiful here!
Loch Lomond!
I have no clue where you are, I’ve traveled in a very limited way. Coast looks rocky like Maine-but further north. Atlantic-North America side, by the amount of the knitting you’ve done on that sock. I use metal circular needles on my socks when flying (how’d I ever crawl around in the cramped quarters of a plane when I’d inevitably let a double-pointed slip to the floor?!). And I like the “magic loop” method. Went to the website and got the pattern-lovely!! Can’t wait to knit it up in a soft green I have. Thanks for posting it.
Continue to have a wonderful vacation with your family-nice looking bunch, dude!
Prince Edward Island?
Wisconsin
Badeck Nova Scotia
marlyce in windsor, ontario
The San Juan Islands in Puget Sound, Washington State?
My guess is that you´re on Prince Edward´s Island.
Do I get a second guess? How about Thunder Bay, Ontario?
It looks like Devon to me, but maybe I’m just a tad homesick for the sea as that plane doesn’t look big enough to be transatlantic so I’m going to plump for Vancouver Island which I remember as being very beautiful. I can’t get any more detailed because I was only 10 when I went. Enjoy your holiday whereever you are
Based on a hunch and some quick research on a Newfoundland site that offers panoramic shots, I’m guessing you are on or near Signal Hill. (I found one shot that sort of looked similar to your pic.) Wherever it is, it looks lovely. And I loved the stone sculpture from the previous post.
Since I have no idea what to guess (Though the first thing that sprang in mind was Vancouver Island… where I haven’t been) I’ll just comment on the knitting. I loooooove the idea of a knitter’s row in the flight and I’m pretty sure that the flight attendant was delighted to be amused in such a crafty way!!!
Have a lovely vacation… the scenery sure looks to do the job intended.
I am guessing Prince Edward Island. Not Washington state, We were pretty warm today, and tomorrow is supposed to be far warmer.
I’m just drunk on the colors, the serenity, and the idea of knitting on a plane with other women:-)
It certainly LOOKS like Cornwall, in the UK, but there’s no way you could fly from Canada to here on a plane that small. So it must be somewhere closer.
I’m guessing Cape Breton in Nova Scotia!
Quidi Vidi, Newfoundland – you’re here for the Regatta!
I’m also guessing Signal Hill, but not through any local knowledge … the coastline in the back of your shot looks _remarkably_ similar to the group shot (with the Dublin Bay sock!) from the top of the trail you posted back in August 2004 😉 So … somewhere near the top of the trail, out of sight of the wooden railings?
It looks like Scotland or somewhere along the west coast of Ireland.
Enjoy your holiday 🙂
it looks beautiful! i’m just throwing it out there but i want to say cape cod.
From the weather I’d guess Cornwall, England, it has been grey and wet here all summer!
The breathtaking beauty is intoxicating and it looks like PEI in the distance so I’d say you’re near my beloved beach on the shore of the Northumberland Strait somewhere between River John and Tatamagouche NS. I’m sooo homesick right now.
You are in Northern Lower Michigan, looking out across Lake Huron at Mackinaw Island…possibly at Mackinaw City?
It looks very much like the Sleeping Giant.
Newfoundland? I don’t know why, as I’ve never been. The thought just struck the minute I saw the lovely photo. Enjoy yourselves, wherever you all are!
I guess you’re in Newfoundland, at Gros Morne N.P.
Wherever you are, you are blessed to be in so beautiful a place!
I’m gonna say the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, cuz that looks a lot like somewhere I stopped and took a picture of when I was there. I could be wrong though, it was awhile ago.
Some where in Nova Scotia
It’s probably somewhere in the Maritimes, but my official guess is Victoria, BC. Weather is right, colour of ocean is right, rocks are right…
graceland.
Middle Cove near St. Johns ??
I absolutely do not understand how you get so much knitting done! Do you finish anything? Just 2 days ago there was another sock you were working on. Did you finish it? Amazing!
I’m guessing you’re on the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia, somewhere near Meat Cove.
You are just where I’d like to be right now. Enjoy!
Gros morne? Twillingate?
Hiking to the narrows at Signal Hill, NF. Have a wonderful vacation. Wish I could come to CA sometime.
Are you in B.C. in the treasure forest?
I’m guessing New Brunswick, but I can’t get more specific than that…. really it could probably be any of these places listed in the comments for all I would know. It looks just glorious. Perfect knitting weather.
Since I only posted the second of those two comments above it is a pretty big coincidence that two people named Simone posted in the exact same minute. Either that, or a computer glitch credited them both to me…?
Cavendish, PEI
Beautiful sock!!!!
I’m going to guess Newfoundland — wherever it is, it is truly beautiful!
st anne’s bay nova scotia? this is later in the summer than i have ever been there- but it is what it reminds me of.
Gorgeous
Signal Hill, St. John’s Newfoundland?
Guess Signal Hill wasn’t a very original guess. Made by comparing to your vacation photos from 2004 and assuming that it had to be beautiful Canada!
On first looking at the picture, I was going to say Vancouver Island, but no… I think it’s Newfoundland. But I’ve never been there so I can’t get more specific than that.
Somewhere in Nova Scotia or Northern Maine?
Sure looks like Scotland to me – Loch Ness?
Looks like Nova Scotia……..
I am extremely travel challenged and have no clue where you are… but how many readers of a certain generation read the title and in their mind added “is Carmen Sandiego?”
Just try getting that stuck in your head in the first 15 minutes of work!
Gros Morne National Park? Just a guess!
I suspect that some smart-alec has already said what I would say …
You were standing on a big boulderous rock next to a field of wild flowers!
you went to heaven. I can tell.
What’s that? you mean that’s a real place, here on earth?
nope, heaven. 🙂
acadia national park? on mt desert island, maine?
i’m running on about 3 horus sleep due to a feverish 4 year old, so i’t just a WAG
That’s easy. You’re in Paradise.
I’m just glad you are having a family holiday. I can spot the Air Canada headphone packets…
I’m guessing that it’s too far to bike from your place (or Lake Huron.) My guess is Nova Scotia (or someplace on the east coast of Canada.)
I want to say 1000 Islands but then you wouldn’t need to fly from Toronto. Nova Scotia???
Gore Bay? Manitoulin Island?
Judging from the crummy weather which looks like Maine’s, I’d say you might have taken advantage of the exhange rate and come here! But it’s more likely you’re in Nova Scotia on the rocky east coast.
Judging from the crummy weather which looks like Maine’s, I’d say you might have taken advantage of the exhange rate and come here! But it’s more likely you’re in Nova Scotia on the rocky east coast.
Gros Morne
I think it is in Cape Breton, one of the most beautifulplaces on earth.
Enjoy your holiday!
I’m sincerely convinced it is in Scotland and you are looking at the Shetland Islands- I seem to recognize that blue fog. P.S. I’m from America and I studied the Canadian map for this challenge and that makes us both winners!
Is it Loch Ness in Scotland? Your picture is gorgeous!
Well, it’s Newfie-land fer sure. Beyond that, can’t say.
I think it’s Loch Ness in Scotland. So beautiful!! I’m jealous, where ever it is.
I think it must be St John’s, Newfoundland. I would (unoriginally) have said it was shot from Signal Hill but there don’t seem to be any buildings visible so i will just have to guess that it is a trail in that vicinity.
Definitely Newfoundland…gotta get myself there one day
I’m guessing Gros Morne or maybe Conception Bay overlooking Bell Island? Have a lovely time.
I think that you are in the Hebrides.
you’re in quidi vidi! and yes isn’t the weather gross? ick.
Lark Harbor, Newfoundland?
That looks like the Sleeping Giant of Thunder Bay ON.
Vancouver Island
Signal Hill, Newfoundland- looking over the bay -into St John’s Harbour – not over the Atlantic (an important difference.
Have some screech for me!
Newfoundland. Signal Hill.
IN CANADA !!!!
I am going to guess PEI (Prince Edward Island).
Great Britain???!!!
Newfoundland. Standing by a bay with your knitting on a rock on The Rock. Okay, so I don’t know exactly.
Based on the size of the plane and the knitting progress I would guess that you are in the Maritimes and from the picture, far enough north to be into the Canadian Shield geography. (See, I was paying attention on our Georgian Bay boat cruise in the 30,000 Islands on vacation earlier this month. :-)) We have made several trips to BC but haven’t had the pleasure of exploring that Canadian coast yet, so any more specific guess would be copying the folks above who seem to know or throwing a dart at a map. And since my aim with darts isn’t so good, I’ll stick with The Land of Newfie Joe!
Ireland.
Pulling this one out of my butt, but looking out at the Blasket Islands from the Dingle Peninsula of Ireland?
Looks like Lake Louise in Banff.
I envy you your trip – it looks lovely and restful.
My first thought was the Chesapeake bay, but I’m not sure. . .if I’m right, OR if I spelled it correctly!
I’m really not sure. Either Vancouver Island or Newfoundland. But it could be somewhere in Maine or Washington or even Oregon. I don’t think you’re overseas.
Either way – I’m jealous. It looks gorgeous.
I would venture to say somewhere on the northern CA coast like Mendocino, but it’s too sunny down there right now.
So, my ultimate guess is either somewhere like Orcas Island or an island off the coast of Victoria, BC.
Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, looking towards Vancouver Island, BC is my guess.
Maybe it’s Washington State? BTW, I just returned from Minnesota (where I visited The Yarnery in St. Paul, they rock!) and knitted on all four planes and in every single meeting session. I taught my friend to knit on the way up, and she was doing it all – cast on, bind off, purling, increases – very well by the time we got home. Then she started with “I wonder if I could…” HA, she is totally hooked – we got another one!!
I don’t have a clue, but I’d like to be there, too.
hmmm… I am going to stab a guess at Halifax Nova Scotia.
Looks like most of the islands in Maine, though I”m pretty certain you’re in Canada.
I think….Cape Breton….near Ingonish! I hope!
I am sure that your knitting loves the north. My guess is Thunder Bay and the land on the horizon is “The Sleeping Giant.”
I’m guessing you’re standing on Alice Starmore’s homeplace in the Shetland Islands.
Cape Gasbay?
Um,you’re somewhere on the Great Northern Peninsula in Newfoundland.
Hmmm, the Olympic Peninsula? Gorgeous place, wherever you are!
Tofino??
I vote for St. John’s Newfoundland….and could you gather some of that lichen on the rocks there in the picture…looks like dyeing material to me…lol
I’m guessing the Bay of Fundy, St. John. Just cause, if I go on vacation and run into the Harlot, I think I’ll get extra knittin’ mojo or something, and actually finish the 4 projects I brought with me! :O)
Prince Edward Island.
Long Range Mountains, Newfoundland?
I am hazarding a guess at Northern Ontario somewhere. Maybe up near Sleeping Giant or Kakabeka Falls? It certainly looks beautiful and peaceful. Hope you enjoy your vacation, but sorry to hear you’ll miss stich n pitch tonight in Toronto though. Go Jays Go!!
Oh, Lake Huron. I don’t know where you are, but I am from Michigan (now living in Texas) and we used to drive up to the UP and swim in Lake Huron when I was little. I didn’t realize how frick fracking cold that water was till I stuck my toe in it as an adult. Man Alive!!! Hope you’re having a great trip. Looks wonderful.
The tropical island of Newfoundland – of course!
I have no idea where you are.
But are you knitting a toe up sock?
I have no clue but I love the sleeping lady in the picture of Meg knitting on the plane. Too funny!
Oh, and if it is Newfoundland, I should say “Whatta ya at”!
I am thinking Signal Hill in NFL …gorgeous and I bet Joe’s Mom is glad to be back “home”! and Joe too of course!!
It looks like the Sleeping Giant in Lake Superior. I’ve never been, but my mom grew up in Thunder Bay and one of her older sisters made a painting.
It looks like the San Juan Islands to me.
I’m guessing somewhere in Newfoundland. Having not been there before I can’t get any more specific than that.
Burlington, Vermont. (I wanted to say Maine… But VT stuck)
Gros Morne National Park, Nfld.
(Hey, i guessed wrong on the gender of Megan’s baby — might as well give this a try.)
It has to be somewhere in Great Britain! I think off the coast of England somewhere…ha ha…how is that for specificity?
I don’t know where that photo is taken but it is so beautiful it must be in Canada….
I’m very jealous and happy for you that you could knit on the plane. I just returned from the UK – 7 hours each way and no knitting needles allowed on those flights – I just about went crazy. What is Zoom thinking?
Loch Ness! Or in Scotland. :]
Newfoundland? Wherever it is, it looks lovely, as does the sock posing with it. Have a good vacation!
I think you are in Newfoundland, but I’m going for the west coast, more near Stephenville where Joe’s from. If you get a chance head south west for Burgeo for a couple of days. If the fog decides to stay away you might get to enjoy beautiful white sandy beaches!
I know where you are! Someplace I want to be!!! Ok, so I don’t have a clue, but it looks lovely. Have fun!!!
Total wild ass guess – Giants Causeway, Co Antrim, N. Ireland.
Wonderful place to visit, BTW.
Cape Breton Island, near Ingonish?
Lac Seul?
Looking down the Hood Canal near Washington?
Great socks!
Manitoulin Island
Cape St-Mary’s, Newfoundland ?
Outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia?
I am thinking St. John’s Newfoundland
Hope you are having a great time.
Well, I am guessing that, since you made a stop to visit Lake Huron (my second favorite great lake), you flew out of Windsor or Detroit. Logically that suggests you flew west but the airlines don’t work that way. Was this photo taken of Vancouver Island from Puget Sound? Have a great trip.
You are some place with very clean air (the lichen needs clean air to grow that well), that rains a lot, and doesn’t get to hot–so you are in the north, old solid rock on the coast, on the coast in Canada I would say.
Ok I will say west coast north of Vancouver up along the sunshine coast, on the inland water route.
Where ever it is it looks wonderful–enjoy it!
I think you’ve gone back to the McPhee homeland, Scotland, I’m guessing.
Not Paris. Everyone on the plane is still smiling, and their eyes are open, so I guess you’re not in New Zealand either.
Halifax Harbor, Nova Scotia?
Judging by how my friend describes it, I’ll say somewhere in Scotland. At any rate, it looks infinitely cooler than it is here in this bright strident, never-ending heat wave of summer in Kansas USA. Soak up some cool for me.
I’m guessing you’re at the Cabot Tower, Signal Hill, St. John’s NF. And you got it on a breathtakingly beautiful day.
Stephanie, Love your work and great blog! Please tel your mother-in-law that she has a wonderful smile!
Would that be Signal Hill, St. Johns, Newfoundland?
Could it be Nova Scotia? Looks a bit like where we honeymooned near the Bay of Fundy. If that’s it, go eat at Chez Christoph near St. Mary’s Bay!
the Battery at quidi vidi, NF
Scotland.
My guess… Looking out at the Sleeping Giant in Thunder Bay, ON. BTW: Those socks are great!
Western Brook Pond, Newfoundland
Nova Scotia is the first place that came into my head, considering you’re Canadian, though, never having been to Canada, I ultimately have no clue….it could be anywhere….!!! But being originally from Ireland, it really does look like so much of my home country too.
Prince Edward Island!
I’m guessing the San Juan Islands, Oracs Island?
I think you are at Lake Superior, Thunder Bay looking out over the Sleeping Giant!
Welcome to Newfoundland!
I’m guessing that you’re somewhere on one of the hiking trails around Signal Hill. I’m looking out there from my office window right now, and it’s still looking pretty grey!
I think you’re in Nova Scotia, specifically – Cape Breton? Have a great vacation! If you’re not in Nova Scotia you should totally go!
On Salt Spring Island (BC) looking toward Vancouver Island.
I was guessing Scotland, too. Never been there – yearn to go, however. But maybe Nova Scotia instead. If it was named after it, maybe it looks like it. 🙂 But what do I know?
They let you take knitting needles on a plane?
Whistler, Vancouver BC- don’t ask why
You gave no hints whatsoever, or at least none that I could discern. I’m voting Mt. Revelstoke National Park. Just because Mt. Revelstoke sounds cool.
I think you are looking down over the Narrows at Signal Hill, St. John’s, NL. Have a great trip and hope you get good weather.
Portland, OR? Basically I just picked something that I didn’t see anyone else pick. ;p
What yarn is Meg using? Love those colors, and she’s so adorable!
I don’t know where you are, but I think it’s incredibly beautiful and I wish I were there. Esp if I were knitting something pink.
Cuckold Cove,
Newfoundland.
I’m going with somewhere near St. Johns NFLD, a place I’ve neer been, but often dream of going… It’s too cloudy to be anywhere near Victoria/Vancouver.
Colonsay – ancestral home of the clan McPhee ? You did say it would be a great adventure, with time for lots of knitting. Wherever, have a wonderful holiday.
The other side of Lake Huron?????
Have fun where ever you are….
I’m going to 3rd the guess for Manitoulin Island. Guess #2 (since #1 has already been guessed) is St. Joseph Island?
I don’t know where it is, but that photo should be a knitting magazine cover!
That totally looks like Newfoundland to me. Beautiful sock! Love the pink even though I’m not really one that gravitates towards pink yarns.
Newfoundland. Visiting Joe’s dad.
I bet you are in Scotland standing on the shore of Loch Ness. Did you see Nessie?
Nanimo, BC?
Let’s see, it is NOT Oklahoma. Maybe it is in Newfoundland? It looks like a postcard I saw.
Lake Louise
it is not too specific
but that is my guess
Probably Newfoundland, but it looks very like Cape Breton, near Ingonish but others have guessed that so I will go to another province and say Forillon National Park, Gaspe. I know it’s not the BC coast because it was beautiful yesterday.
Mendocino, California, USA?
Probably not but that’s where I spent my (too brief) vacation in early June and I have several pictures that look just like that.
Hope ya’ll are having a blast!!
Victoria, B.C.? Wherever you are, it sure is pretty!
Trinity Bight, Newfoundland. Just to be different!
I’m guessing it’s not Newfoundland, as that’s where Joe’s family (and therefore, MIL) is from. I am also guessing, therefore, west coast of Canada, but that’s about as good as I can get. Another vote for somewhere in B.C. (from an American, no less! who grew up on the border of New Brunswick)
Looks a lot like our photos from a great trip – flew in to Vancouver, spent time on Victoria, family wedding on Salt Spring Island. I guess Salt Spring Island (though I see that’s already been done). Fun!
Gallway Ireland is my guess or at least my hope for you
Looks like you’re in front of The Lookout on the Cuckold Cove Trail, Fresh Water Bay, St. John’s, NF.
The Dunphy homestead in Newfoundland? Hope so. Have a great time, dear.
St. John’s Nfld. Signal Hill looking across the harbour. (Looked on map and there is a street on the other side of the hill called Cuckhold’s Cove Rd.- love it!)
You’ve mentioned the Newfoundland connection so this is part of the guess – and there are two yarn shops in St. John’s so I’m narrowing it down to that….
Lovely scenery. Enjoy the holiday!
I would have to say the answer to Where in the World is ….
Carmen Sandiego!
Hope I’m not the only one who remembers that show 🙂
Is it in Iron Mountain, Michigan looking out at Lake Superior?
Waterton Lakes National Park
San Juan Islands
I suppose our guesses say more about where we’ve been than where you are but I thought Brador lakes, Cape Breton.
loch ness
Bay of Fundy?
Is it the view of Cape Spear on the trail around Signal Hill?
There’s a Signal Hill here in CA too, but not as pretty.
Loch Ness??? First thing that came to mind.
Cox’s Cove, Newfoundland. (Yay, Google!)
How about looking out at The Sleeping Giant? Lake Superior, Thunderbay. Hwy 11?
The photo “feels” Scottish. How about the west coast of Scotland, near the Hebrides. Isle of Skye, maybe?
Close to Gros Morne National Park, north of Pasadena, Newfoundland. Maybe looking out the mouth of St. Paul’s Bay from Rt. 430?
Why is there a Pasadena in Newfoundland, btw?
Nova Scotia? Anyway, it’s gorgeous where you are, and the Hibiscus thing is beautiful too. Have fun!
Newfoundland
Prince Edward Island?!? Ohhhh I hope I’m the winner!!! I’d love that skein of yarn! But, where ever you were, it looks beautiful!
Beautiful picture – – wish I was there! Vancouver?? Enjoy your vacation.
You are at the end of the world where everything began and it looks like it is about to rain. You are knitting the rock a rocksock out of socksthatrock.
It doesn’t look like any part of Vancouver Island that I’ve been to so far, but there’s plenty of places I haven’t yet seen, having moved only a few months ago.
If you are here though, I know of a yarn store in Victoria where I could do some serious enabling… 😉
Small Plane….Sudbury, Ontario
Hmmm
Cape Breton Nova Scotia….
or Victoria BC
wait that’s two chances !
I’m just going to guess somewhere on the coast of Alaska – since you seemed you enjoy it there last year when you were on tour. This is a total stab in the dark.
Nice sock! Just supported her so I could get that lovely pattern. :o)
Okay, my first thought was Vancouver, but I’ll jump to the other coast for my official guess. I will go with my Grandfather’s ancestral home, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, and guess you are photographing the Bras D’Or lake.
It would have been SOOOOO much easier if you’d told us how LONG the plane ride was – but I’m guessing not long – you are SUCH a speedy knitter, and if you were on the west coast or in Europe, like some folks have guessed, I think you’d have turned the heel by now. (Of course I have no idea if that was your only plane knitting… maybe you ARE in Ireland and have a scarf, 3 hats, and a shawl finished as well as that sock toe. LOL)
Old Joe’s backyard.
I think you are in Newfoundland (so am I…squeeee). I can’t guess exactly but the weather there is exactly like here in Corner Brook so I’ll guess you’re in the Bay of Islands someplace.
By the way, I knit socks from that colourway of Megaboot about a year ago. For a while I thought they were going to have to use the jaws of life to pry me out of ’em. Looooooove.
Somewhere near the Great Glen in Scotland? If your mother-in-law weren’t with you then I’d probably say Newfoundland.
Denver, Colorado?
Cadillac Mountain in Bar Harbour, Maine (yes, I know they spell it Harbor – but in your honour I took liberties) 🙂
Just because no one else has guessed it yet, I’m going to say the Gap of Dunloe in Ireland. I have a postcard that looks remarkably like that photo.
You are in Gros Morne Nataional Park in Newfoundland… I hope 🙂
New Brunswick, looking at Nova Scotia across the Bay of Fundy?
Beautiful place, wherever it is.
The Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, Ireland?
Orcas Island, WA
I’m guessing Thunder Bay – looks suspiciously like the view from Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.
Orcas Island. Considering I’m in Australia, that’s a pretty wild guess!
Is it Iceland? I’ve never been but I’m sure that’s what Iceland looks like in the summer!!
Looks like Ireland or Scotland
At least you didn’t rub it in with “wish you were here.” Sigh….Makes me homesick. I would have knitted on the plane with you.
Kyle of Lochalsh, Scotland
Quetico National Park? Wherever it is, it – and the sock – are beautiful!
Oh man, I don’t know where it is but is sure is gorgeous!!
Umm…I gotta ask…aren’t you worried you’re putting your pretty pink sock on a slimy dirty spot? Makes for a pretty picture but it makes me all nervous for it…
Acadia National Park
I have no idea where that is, but is surely is a beautiful spot. Hope you’re enjoying your vacation.
Green Bay, Newfoundland
Kamloops BC
If I guess the UK, would that count?
Errrrrr… you got me, there… (Haha! That was almost a pun!) Hmmmmmmm… I’m looking at a map of Canada, and everyone seems to be pretty set on Newfoundland (I’ve never been, but from the pictures I’m seeing, they appear correct.) And so I’ll stab a guess at Saint-Pierre Et Miquelo in Newfoundland?
Also, does anyone know if you can knit on planes in the US? I had always assumed you couldn’t…
I don’t know but I wish I were there. Queen Charlotte Islands?
Well one thing I know is that you’re somewhere I want to be.
One thing I’m not sure of but am guessing because it *looks* right from the pics I saw from my friend in the area.. Signal Hill, Newfoundland? I’ve never gotten to go myself, but she went and it was just lovely. I was incredibly jealous.
I have no clue where you are. It does look like a place that Ann with an E would inhabit. 🙂
My guess is Cape Breton–wish I were there……
Are you outside Thunder Bay, looking at the Sleeping Giant?
You’re on a rock looking out over a lake! Right?
I don’t know, but I need to put all of these guesses on my travel list!
I’ll say my home island of Cape Breton, it looks grey enough.
St. John’s Newfoundland. I’m here now. It is stunning and gorgeous. I can’t get enough. I’m on holidays too but leaving tomorow. The streets in St. John’s look like they would be mighty precarious in the winter. St. Johns I think because you are with your mother in law and your husbands family is from newfoundland. Also St. John’s becuase the other airports here don’t have ocean views that I know of. I am thinking cape spear of cabot tower hill. Both have stunning views like that.
Queen Charlotte City! That’s where I would like to be, anyway.
This is Newfoundland. It looks like the view from the trails around Signal Hill looking down at the Narrows toward Middle Cove. I am envious because I don’t get to go home this summer.
maureen
My vote is for Thunder Bay. Along TransCanada overlooking Lake Superior, before you reach the Terry Fox Monument.
Wherever you are enjoy and have fun.
bets
That’s the “bath tub” at Hermit Island, Maine, I think!
Isle of Skye?
I have no idea, but I sure wish I was there. Have a great vacation and happy knitting!
Looks like Iceland to me, but then, I’ve got Iceland on the brain…
Are you around Vancouver island? It reminds me of the pacific northwest. Or maybe the other side of the coast, such as Newfoundland. Either way, enjoy. Have you ever wondered why you can take pointed metal objects like knitting needles on a plane, but can’t take blunt scissors?
Maine?
My guess is Salt Spring Island.
ireland?
I don’t know but it looks gorgeous. Nice sock too.
A beautiful place, wherever it is. Wish I were there.
Thank you for supporting the search for a cure. As a survivor, I personally appreciate it!
Loch Ness, Scotland – Drumnadrochit
somewhere in Maine? Looks a little like, but I can’t stop staring at that yarn. I LOVE PINK!!!
I’m thinking Newfoundland and I’m thinking you are on Signal Hill at Quidi Vidi Battery looking at Cape Spear across the St.John’s harbour gut and just avoiding the village of Quidi Vidi by your clever photography! Have a lovely time!
Looks like the straight of Juan de Fuca to me. I want to say Vancouver Island but if it really is the straight, it looks like the Pacific is to the left/west…and that wouldn’t be right.
So I’m going to guess the San Juan Islands. Friday Harbor.
Did I win?
Hmmmm. Or maybe Dungeoness Spit? That would put you between Sequim and Port Angeles, Washington.
Can I have multiple guesses?
Cape Spear, NL from Cuckold’s Cove gets my vote. This is my first post after a couple of years of reading the blog and sharing it with several friends, some of whom you have met on your travels,(think Denver, Co and Lexington, KY). There is a Pasadena in Newfoundland because Leonard Earle, founder of Pasadena, NL had visited Pasadena, California before he came here and founded the town I now live in. He saw some similarity, I think. Pasadena means Crown of the Valley and here we sit at the top of the beautiful Humber Valley.
PEI, Nova Scotia?
the coast of Seattle, Puget sound
Lake Cowichan?
I’m going to guess that you are on Vancouver Island. Or possibly that you are looking at Vancouver Island. Where ever you are, I hope you are having a wonderful vacation. Cheers!
The STR Rosebud you’re using…
Is that a discontinued color? A rare gem?
Not listed on the Blue Moon web site.
Harbourside Park, St. John’s Bay
SOmewhere in Newfoundland I’m guessing…lucky you that you can knit. I’m going on a 12 hour flight on Olympic Airlines and I’m not allowed knitting needles. How am I ever going to sneak them on board, sigh…ciao
I have no idea where you are but can I come too? Looks so very pwetty…
“Quidi Vidi (say “kitty vitty”) Newfoundland. (That’s Cape Spear in the distance.”
The last picture looks just like the first picture without Joe holding the yarn so I’m guessing it is the same place.
Wherever it is I wish I were there too!
did you return to Orca Island?
Prince Edward Sound? Does that even exist? It just popped into my head.
Signal Hill…specifically, the Ladies Walk (or Lookout? something like that.)
I have a similar penguin shot: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3197/2742669968_469e4579f8_m.jpg

Stephanie,
I just happened to come across a little thing on what I think is the Food Channel, and they were renovating the Old York Bar and Grill. Listening to people’s accents, and the fact that the check by the owner to the renovators was from CIBC, I was guessing that they were in Canada. Right at the end, some of her friends came in to the restaurant…were you there? Did I catch that quick view of you there?
(I live in Arizona, but lived in Ontario for for 9 years…some things are a dead giveaway…)
By the way, could that photo be on Georgian Bay?
Funny how the comments come out when free yarn is mentioned. It seems you enjoyed your vacation as much as I did mine. Anything that involves a view of the sea and a sock is paradise for me.
Not sure if it is too late but i think it is cuckold’s cove.
The picture is taken from the north side of Quidi Vidi Gut. Maybe the same day you visited the great little pub, – I know it well.
