Things are not good here. You would think they were, the children have been busily occupied, reading, sewing, knitting and spinning. I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I’ve even thought that I might survive March Break without becoming a gibbering idiot. Yesterday it got bitter cold out, the snow started, Joe came home late from work so I couldn’t go to spinning and be freed from my prison for the first time in days …and I really felt like it was the beginning of the end. Much to my surprise, the little lovie girls sat quietly with scissors and needles and thread, peacefully working.
This morning, I found what they were making.

Do you see what these are? Do you? These are freakin’ voodoo dolls and I think one of them looks like me. Somebody has to come get me out of here. All this time they are sewing and smiling at me and they even cleaned their rooms….lulling me into a false sense of security…all the while making voodoo dolls. There are five days left. Keep me in your thoughts.
In other news…
Does anybody recognize this yarn?

I think it’s lovely, it’s a garage sale find and has no labels. I’m virtually certain that it’s 100% wool…anybody have any idea about a brand name? I’m wondering if there is enough of it to make this. Not for me (how stupid would that look with a pair of yoga pants and a tee-shirt from 1987) but for my uber-hip hair lady. I knit, she cuts and styles. The barter system at it’s best. I’ve got to knit something for her soon or I won’t be able to take this hair out in public.
Happy St. Patrick’s day!
It looks familiar – maybe a Mountain Colors color run? Does it feel really kooshy? Dang – wish I could feel it. I’m better at identifying when I can feel the stuff! It’s beautiful, in any case. Love those muted colors! And I say, “Reclaim the voodoo dolls – wave your magic wand and turn them into little spinning/knitting guardians!” 😉
Umm, which one of those dolls resembles you again? Notice any hair or nail clippings gone missing? This is even worse than the Barbie incident.
That yarn is gorgeous, it looks a little like the Aslan colorway from Lorna’s Laces.
Steph
You slay me! No really! I am also dying to know which one of those figures you think resembles you! I hope its not the red one- there are no feet on it! I wonder if they know you’re onto them.
Do your kids have a tv to glue themselves to?
It looks like enough yarn to me… the pattern only calls for what, 200 yards? 150?
Love your page – both the content and layout. Want to get into blogs for things like my graffiti photos from Ottawa and Toronto – where do you host yours from?
Mike
Yes, I would also like to know which doll you think is you. Do you have any aches and pains today? And that yarn looks like Lorna’s Laces.
Oh, man, I’m still laughing….I wouldn’t be too worried unless you notice your hairbrush is suddenly very clean, or they start hanging around when you clip your toe or finger nails. LOL
What scary little dolls! I bet they’re of kids/teachers at school, though, rather than of you. (Hmm. That’s not as comforting as I’d meant it to be.)
Have you tried the burn test yet? That yarn is so gorgeous, I hope it _is_ wool!
The yarn is definitly wool. It does a thick and thin thing, is that a helpful clue?
It’s the blue voodoo doll that makes me nervous.
Jeez, Steph, I’m impressed with the slightly skewed sense of humor your girls exhibit.
I wouldn’t worry at all.
That is a project done with love and the knowledge that you’ll find it all funny.
I’d love to meet them all.
That being said, maybe it’s time for a visit to the fabulous Toronto shoe museum?
What a fine place, and doesn’t everyone love shoes?
Or maybe the local jail? You know, for educational purposes: here’s where they locked up the famous voodoo sisters…until they rotted.
Finally, that’s not Mountain Colors. Definitely not one of their colors.
Don’t think Lorna’s Laces does the thick and thin thing.
But that’s all I know.
i hear ya,going thru the same thing here minus voodoo doll’s.hehe.we are going to Toronto tommorrow.Know any good wool store’s there?
*trying not to spit out the water she was drinking while laughing*
Ok, I’m highly amused at their twisted sense of humor considering their age. Of course, my mother raised me on Tom Lehrer songs and my dad on Monty Python…
The yarn looks like singles, is it? Though I do not recognize the colorway (and cannot gauge the weight from a picture), I wonder if it could be Manos? That yarn does the multi-color thing and the thin and thick thing… Here is a color card page– check out 112 at the bottom!
And those dolls? There ARE three of them; I would be more worried that they are self-portraits!
Nope, not Manos (OK OK so I have every possible Manos colorway memorized). And Stephanie, you are obviously raising the coolest children in the world. A little scary, but cool.
Well, at least they are creative! No spring break here, thank God, but the same dismal weather. We’ve been making preschooler art all day.
If the yarn is oldish it could be the wool version of Brunswick Impressions — they had a wool single with pale colorways like this, and a matching mohair. I have some in my stash (not this color, though) from about 10 years back.
I’m so pathetic; I actually tried to find this yarn using google. (I live a boring life, what can I say?) 😛
I did find some alpaca yarns that looked somewhat like it, fwiw…
It’s lovely yarn, no matter what it is!
I saw those voodoo dolls and thought immediately of that line John Cleese spouts as the exaggerated French solider “Now go away or I will taunt you for a second time!” *sniff* (The Holy Grail)
LMAO
I can’t decide who is funnier, you or your daughters. You know that they are getting their sense of twisted/funny from you, right? Fantastic.
OK I have never ever said a sideways comment about any knitted garment (except wristlets which totally deserve at least a snicker). But that Boob Tube thing is beyond me. I just don’t get it. You reach for the Chee-tos on the top shelf, and you’re wearing a giant cowl neck. You fling your kid’s voodoo doll across the room, and you’re all wonkyjawed. It makes a poncho look wearable. I reckon if you’re carefully picking up and replacing a martini, you’re OK.
Those voodoo dolls are amazing. Hard not to admire the bent souls who came up with those. I’m reminded of my peacenik friend whose child gnawed a piece of toast into the shape of a gun.
Wishing you a peaceful return to the land of the living. Yours in spring break hostage situations . . .
Stephanie,
The yarn is Pingouin and the name is File de Laine. There are 153 yards per skein and the suggested needle size is 8. I have 19 balls of the yarn in the same color that I purchased years ago when they were still in business in the USA.
I’m getting the information from my spreadsheet at work, but if you need more info e-mail me. I’ll verify it when I get home.
