I can see the line from here

It’s super hot again, and Megan (owner of Lettuce Knit – not my daughter Megan) is still pregnant, and I absolutely don’t want to be responsible for keeping her pregnant by failing to finish baby sweaters for whoever is in there.

Bmdet1607

Family myth has it that no baby is born before I finish their knitting, in fact my three daughters (one two weeks late, one two weeks early and one right on time) were born the day after I finished their blankets, as was my nephew Hank. There’s a string of them – and it’s mostly true, although a couple of years ago I did get totally messed up by a set of premature twins. Took two of them to take me down though.

Bydet1607

Last night I got to thinking about how very pregnant she is, and how very heavy babies are towards the end, and how they are in such a really crappy place in your body, right there in your pelvis and abdomen where you used to keep organs you used all the time, like your bladder and your lungs… and the guilt just swept over me, and I stepped away from the wheel and sat down and finished the sweaters.

Bmineb11607-1

There’s no way that I want to be responsible, not even on a molecular level, for her being pregnant one second longer. (Besides, I think that if she thought that I was the reason she was still pregnant with this kid my life would be in danger, and it’s not like I can avoid her. She owns a yarn shop. Near my house. A yarn shop near my house with my friends in it. A yarn shop near my house with my friends in it and beer. See? Even if I tried not to go in there, we all know she’d have the best of me in a couple of days.)

Bybuttons1607

The sweaters are blocking now, and I’ll have the buttons on them later, and then I’ll be able to look Megan in the eye again, and know that if she’s still pregnant, it’s got nothing to do with me.

  1. They look lovely. 🙂
Does that mean I should start the baby hat for my friend who looks questionably close to explosion?
I like to live life on the edge. heh.

  2. Good for you for keeping karma on the right side! They’re beautiful. I love them!!

  3. How lovely! I hope you post more pics and soon have one of the wee one in the actual sweater! I hope Megan appreciates your efforts on her behalf. Summer pregnancies can be so draining towards the end. You are a good friend not to make her go longer! 🙂

  4. Oh Stephanie, they look so beautiful!
I want to see pictures of the whole sweaters now… and in a few days the lucky baby wearing it.

  5. Now why couldn’t I have had you knitting for me when I was pregnant, especially with my first (due early September in the hot and humid South, had to wait an extra week, it felt like an extra month.) The sweaters look lovely. I’m sure Adult Megan will be both thrilled and relieved. Good luck to her.

  6. From what I can see in teh photos, those sweaters are really beautiful! I’m looking forward to seeing a photo that shows the whole sweater. :o) I’m sure Meagan is hoping her baby somehow knows the YH is finished with his/her sweater so all is clear for arrival into this world.

  7. Ooh, so pretty! I especially like the pearly buttons for the baby mine sweater.
And it’s very good of you to give up tour spinning time in order to do your part to help the baby into the world in a timely manner. I’m sure Megan appreciates it!

  8. Gee Stephanie —
Where were you 10 years go, while I was 2 weeks overdue with my 9 pound son??? I sure coulda used a sweater back then!
The sweaters are lovely. I anxiously await pictures of the model, uh, baby.

  9. Fabulous sweaters–I am looking forward to the final unveiling (although not as much as Megan likely is looking forward to having the baby to hold)!

  10. Having once been pregnant through July, one would not want to be responsible for having ‘Mom’ having to suffer through the heat any longer than needed. Best wishes to mom and child.
    Lovely work as usual!

  11. That is a lot of babies that were associated with the finishing of their knitted items. The sweaters look so adorable.

  12. So I guess you answered my question posed yesterday! The sweaters are gorgeous. Can’t wait to see pics baby wearing one or both of them.
When I was pregnant with my darling daughter, my first trimester fell during the hottest, most humid summer in Philadelphia I’d ever experienced. My dear friend’s last trimester fell during that same period. I cannot even imagine how ready she must have been for her baby to arrive! Let’s hope your friend Megan’s baby makes his/her appearance very soon!

  13. Megan probably went into labor late last night since you finally finished the sweaters.

  14. The sweaters look great. Best wishes to Mom and baby.
I’m knitting a doggie sweater for our new arrival. It will be cold here again by the time he needs it, but I just can’t stop myself.

  15. I take full and complete credit for the on-time, healthy, reasonably normal births of six babies last year, including a set of full-term twins, mind you, because I finished every single one of their handknits before the due dates. Baby blankets, cabled sweaters, hats – I knit them, I sewed them up, I blocked them, and the babies are alive and healthy today because of me.
Thank God nobody’s pregnant this year.

  16. Your good intentions alone may help Megan have her baby on the due date, and I’m sure she will be eternally grateful if that happens.
My question is, if Megan is having a singleton and gets one sweater, what happens to the other sweater?

  17. Where can we find the patterns for these two beautiful sweaters, thanks.
    Linda Engel

  18. You live very close to heaven.. a YARN SHOP WITH BEER!!! I can’t stop thinking about it.

  19. So beautiful. I can not wait to see them modeled on the little one. Lucky baby to have a fairy godmother that knits.
I volunteered to make bedding for my son and daughter-in-law two years ago when she was pregnant with twins. She was due in August and I started in February. So of course you know what happened. I started and started over and threw out what I had done and began again. Because it all just had to be perfect. And she got bigger and bigger. And ten days before she had nearly full-term twins I finally delivered the quilts, bumpers and bedskirts. I’m sure that she was as relieved as I was. I kind of felt personally responsible for keeping those babies in there because they couldn’t come until I was finished!! If it wasn’t for the last minute I’d near get anything finished!

  20. Hah! Love it — “took two of them to bring me down”. That’s twins, tag-teaming all over.
Seriously, the sweaters are just gorgeous, and Megan? I wish you a short, painless labor — in a nice air-conditioned room!

  21. Whew – that light breeze you feel is blogland breathing a sigh of relief on Megan’s behalf. The sweaters are gorgeous, and I’m looking forward to seeing one of them on her wee babe.

  22. I was thinking about Meagan in this weather today. Good thing you’re done. She might be clinging on to anything that is stopping labour from coming and you would have been in BIG trouble.
Though I confess I would enjoy watching that over a beer. 😉

  23. So THAT’S why I’m still pregnant. Guess I’d better stop this obsessive cleaning and get cracking on finishing the soaker and sweater I’ve got on the needles. (In all honesty, I wouldn’t mind being pregnant for a few more weeks–I’m just at 37.5 weeks now–but the heat is killing me.)

  24. The baby sweater teaser-pictures look beautiful – can’t wait to see the big picture! (And darned nice of you to get them done so that poor-pregnant-Megan can be done being poor-pregnant-Megan and can move to being tired-but-deliriously-happy-Megan.)

  25. The sweaters look awesome and that’s a crazy myth. Hopefully she won’t have to wait too long after.

  26. Any chance you could whip me up a baby sweater in unknown sex colour in the next few hours? I’m FED UP TOO. This is my 6th and probably my last.. I turned 41 on June 14.. (I noticed you weren’t having a baby this year… maybe NEXT (wink)).
But if you have any control over my giving birth.. I’d appreciate the help.
    Sombra in Sask

  27. Megan must be so pleased to know that she’ll finally be having that baby tomorrow! (And I bet she’s still insisting it’s a boy)

  28. Wow, they look beautiful. I am not usually taken by baby sweaters, but I may have to make the blue one.

  29. Stephanie @2:50 — Obsessive cleaning? Make sure the bag’s packed and sit on a towel while you knit — it’s coming.

  30. Tell us, Stephanie, what’s it like having that kind of power over pregnant ladies? And does it work on anything else? For instance, if you decided to knit a really heavy sweater, would fall weather come the minute you finished the last stitch? (Here’s hoping!) Gorgeous knitting as usual–can’t wait to see photos of the baby in his/her lovely sweater!
And as for spinning–my husband asked me when I was going to learn to spin straw into gold. I told him that was the advanced class.

  31. Those are a couple of lucky babies to have an honorary auntie who will commission yarn and design and knit for them. Once the sweaters are ready to wear they should send out their siren call and those sweater modeling babies should appear post haste! How could they resist?
My oldest son has a July 14 birthday (and off to college in the fall) and well I recall that whole hot weather/pregnant thing. My subsequent children were born in February and April. I guess I learned something.

  32. Years ago when I still knit, I made a blanket for my goddaughter. It was finished a month before the due date and she was born two days after the blanket was done. It’s totally true.
Bet you anything Megan (yarn store owner, not your daughter) goes into labour tomorrow at the latest. Shall we start a betting pool?

  33. The sweaters look gorgeous. I can’t wait to see them in their complete glory. Question: does Megan’s baby get both? I mean, a gal who has beer at her yarn shop isn’t going to stand by tradition when it comes to baby colors, is she?

  34. You have a yarn shop that sells yarn AND alcohol?????????? Very smart tactics on their part, I must say–and I am totally & completely jealous!!!!! (Though my credit card is breathing a sigh of relief that none of our LYS have heard of this new tactic….)

  35. The power you yield.
The colours are even more fabulous knit up – not the tradional blue and pink, yet just a hint of traditionalism.
    Love it.

  36. Sweaters are lovely and I agree I wouldn’t want the wrath of a pregnant woman that figured out that I was keeping her pregnant on me or anyone else. Can’t wait to see the sweaters in use!

  37. Two questions
    1) Are you going to publish/post the sweater patterns anywhere?
    2) How many skeins of the STR Mediumweight did you need for each sweater?

  38. Does Megan’s baby get both sweaters? I mean girls can wear blue. Boys can wear pink. I’m sure the baby would be willing to be gender-ly open minded in the name of hand knits!

  39. I can’t wait until you share those patterns with us. I’ll be making both! My friend on my street is due 5 days before me with a girl – so even though I’m not finding out, I’ll have someone to hand off the girl sweater to if I have a boy. And the boy sweater could totally be worn by a girl if I threw on girly buttons.
I’m currently obsessivly knitting newborn sized baby booties out of 50 Baby Bootees to Knit. I came to the harsh realization that my baby is due on Dec 5th. And oil prices are really high. And got nervous about the warmth of my baby’s feet! Cotton socks WILL NOT DO!
Oh, and little baby says ‘kickkick’ to you. It’s Her/his way of saying hi!

  40. Such lovely sweaters – so…is the wee one on its way now that the knitting is done? 😀
My goodness. A yarn shop. with beer. I need to come visit!

  41. Beautiful! I just finished Saartje’s booties for a friend’s baby, but she was a scheduled C-section so I don’t think I had any bearing… good thing too. When my little sister was born (we’re 12 years apart) she was five before she got the blanket I was making for her. My mom might have killed me if I wielded your powers. 🙂

  42. Absolutely beautiful sweaters! Will you be publishing the patterns? I would definately be interested in purchasing them.

  43. I’m 35 weeks today, due August 20. I am so large that I’m creating my own gravitational field. Perhaps I should finish that blanket for my wee lass before I go supernova. And maybe get around to packing my hospital bag.
Harlot, the baby sweaters are stunning, and I can’t wait to see the patterns when they become available!

  44. Mmmm BBQ baby in a blanket (OK, a sweater)- my fav! Not exactly sweater weather is is? But damn cute from what I can see.

  45. Ah! I love the tantalizing little glimpses you’ve given us. They look gorgeous. I’m sure the baby will be eager to see what you’ve created and then Megan can stop being pregnant in this heat. 🙂

  46. Okay, can you please knit me something by Friday/Saturday? I would really like to get this little guy out this weekend. I don’t need a sweater or baby blanket, not even a hat. I’ll take a little washcloth, ankle length booties, a strap of i-cord! Something to get this baby out!!

  47. The sweaters are beautiful…BUT…I just wanted you to know that now I am REALLY interested in learning how to spin and make my own yarn. Thanks for the inspiration!

  48. Oh Megan, not your daughter, is going to LOVE it. And I bet she goes into labor (labour) right away now that it/they are done. Now, back to the wheel.

  49. Pop Megan, POP!
Nicely knit- and yeah- you don’t want to blow the whole yarnshop-friends/ beer connection you got there;)
Ps- babies really ARE in a terrible spot– they are safe there- I know…but really uncomfortable!
    — is there a better organ to move.. or place to put em? I can’t think of any– well- my backside maybe… but then I’d complain about not being able to sit down….boob carrying is out– as really- who wants a bra to support that?…
PS- a question…I know you’re a spinning maniac… but one thing I’d love to see demonstrated… is how to spin for loft and soft… I got the worsted thing down.. but woolen.. is apparently beyond me.
    Please????

  50. My Dear Harlotta, they are gorgeous…I am very partial to the baby yours Nyame color.
Tell Baby Megan to come on out and remind her that the moon is also full tomorrow. A wonderful convergence of spells…two finished sweaters and the full moon. If she doesn’t go tomorrow, you cannot be held responsible.

  51. I’m ending good thoughts to Megan for a happy and healthy baby. What a lucky gal she is to be receiving those sweaters. They are BEAUTIFUL.

  52. p.s. Stephanie at 2:50 – Rams is SO right. I was due with my first yesterday 17 years ago. I was loading books into our newly finished wall built bookcases all day and cleaning the bathrooms etc. for about 5 days. She will be 17 on Monday.
And is it just me or there a whole lot of pregnant chicks in Harlot fan land? (no surprise but still..)

  53. Those sweaters are two cute!! Any chance your gonna write up the patterns?? I’m always looking for adorable baby sweater patterns. Best wishes to mom & little one!

  54. I expect the next post will have a birth weight and Name in it. Awesome work on those sweaters. My hubby is still waiting for me to finish his socks which will happen after I finish my degree… lol

  55. Yay for you! But, more importantly – yay for Megan! The sweaters look amazing, she and her new bundle of joy are blessed to be on the receiving end of such beautiful craftswomanship! By the way, there is NO such thing as running late on a knitting project, according to my philosophy a project gets finished when it’s supposed to…. This way I feel less guilty when I’m passing out Christmas presents in July.

  56. “It took two to take me down.”
    Bwah-hah-hah!!! I am absolutely LMAO!
Sending happy going-into-labor thoughts for Megan. Late stage pregnancy SUCKS in the summer. There are no words for how much suck is wrapped around having a July (or Aug or Sept (although Sept might not be that bad up there in Toronto)) due date. For her sake, I hope that baby decides to come soon. Like, really, really soon.
Also, awesome sweaters. I can’t wait to see them from farther back.

  57. So the countdown begins to determine which sweater is the right one. I’m rooting for pink..it looks so smooshy, fluffy, and baby smelling.

  58. The little bit of the sweaters I can see look lovely…but oh the buttons are scrumptious.
Can’t wait for the full view. ~ksp

  59. “There’s a string of them – and it’s mostly true, although a couple of years ago I did get totally messed up by a set of premature twins. Took two of them to take me down though.”
That made me snort water out my nose, haha.
But now you’re prepared for the next set of twins.

  60. as the mother of an august baby, i can feel her heat and her exhaustion from here. phew. i hope your record remains unsullied (overall.. i’m not counting the twins) and that someone is born soon.
what i can see of the sweaters, they truly look lovely; tho i’m iffy on the buttons. seems like after so much intense crafting that they ought to have really, really excellent buttons. (but only if it wouldn’t slow down the finishing)

  61. The snippets of both look fantastic. I hope there’s a baby announcement in the next few days and we can see full pictures of all that knitting love.

  62. LOL. They look awesome, even in limited views. Can’t wait to see them ‘in action’ and hopefully see some patterns, too. 😉
Good luck to not-your-daughter Megan! =)

  63. You are a good friend. I’ve been overdue twice… once very overdue… and it was torture. Being overdue in July heat… I can’t even imagine. Poor thing!

  64. Jesus girl! How much fleese in in your stash!???Not that I dont love your taste, and feel more than slightly envous of your hoard, but wow. Course I’m despiratley trying to get a wedding together for my daughter, and i’m finishing the last of two shrugs for her to wear on her honeymoon, but quit making me look bad. Please?

  65. Really spiffy stuff… and your post made me remember all the special misery of being pregnant. Wishing your friend a safe and speedy pass to the other side of expectancy.

  66. I have a vaccination question. What is the schedule like in Canada? I’m in the US and the doctor is harassing me because I want to wait a little longer before we have shots. Thanks!

  67. I really could have used your “it’s OK you can come now” mojo when I was pregnant with my second! (btw, I mentioned a fun book on textiles under your last post, but I’m not sure if you’re still reading those comments…)

  68. The teaser shots look great! Can’t wait to see the finished products. Megan is lucky to have such a friend as you.

  69. I love the tone of your writing! Don’t get me wrong, I like the knitting too, but the way you use language to communicate to your readers is amazing. I hope my writing can be half as good as yours someday!

  70. My friend very neatly went into labour with her first child just as I was sewing the buttons on her sweater. Coincidence?
    I think not.

  71. Ha! What we can see, looks splendiferously gorgerous. I’m sure Megan does too (except hot).
Glad you’ve done your part towards parturition, now back to the wheel, no doubt!
(“And the wheels and the bikes go round and round…”)

  72. My first son was born tomorrow – twenty years ago – when the temperature in the hospital parking lot was 112 degrees (F). It hit the 90’s that Easter and never dipped below until after he was born! Let’s hope Megan’s wee one comes soon, now that the knitting is ready!

  73. “A yarn shop near my house with my friends in it and beer.”
For heavens sake, Stephanie, get those sweaters over there!!! Oh – and show us too! 🙂

  74. Meagan better be prepared for delivery now that the beautiful sweaters are done. Woo Hoo for being so compasssionate?? (((or should that be superstitious))) and finishing them up. Hot muggy weather is not the time to be pregnant and I hope the baby decides enough is enough of being cramped up. Be prepared good luck Meagan

  75. Babies always take priority. I wonder if you would consider writing a book about being a doula (sp?). There are so many babies popping and I had mine in a place and time that was hostile to midwiifery.
Your humour would add to the strength of the next generation.

  76. Sweaters done! All’s right with the world, the babe can arrive safely (and quickly). Not that he or she will need the sweater right away, it’s bloody hot out there!!!!

  77. Awww. You are so funny! It is the baby in control and will stay in control for the rest of her and our lives. Don’t you know this YET?

  78. Ionno about this one… I mean, this sounds like a really excellent rationalization for stepping away from the spinning and not sticking to your spinning schedule….

  79. Stephanie – don’t beat yourself up about the twins – they are in a dfferent statistical dimension – accept that as a doula with experience that you are – twins are much more likely to arriver earlier than singletons.

  80. I finished a sweater for my nephew at the end of last week in the same kind of panic. He made his appearance today after a whole lot of labor.

  81. Thank you. I’m sure she appreciates it, and as soon as you mentioned how babies have tended to wait until you are done with the knitting for them, I remembered a couple of occasions where that seemed to be true… 🙂
The sweaters look lovely. I’d be thrilled to see a full shot of them, though – the tease shots are gorgeous, but I’d like to see the whole thing…and maybe patterns? 😉

  82. Full Moon coming!!! Full moon is known for causing babies to pop–and crazies to howl or whatever they do. so between the moon and the sweaters “not your daughter” Megan gets a double whammy which should allow for a quick, easy birth. If it is as hot in Toronto as it is in Michigan I hope she has airconditioning.Nothing worse than overdue baby mixed with extreme heat, humidity and contractions that go nowhere. Hope her significant other knows all the things Megan says in the days or hours left til delivery are hormonal rants and all will be forgotten and forgiven.

  83. Those sweaters are fabulous. I can hardly wait so see all of them. Best wishes for a full moon delivery for Megan (not your daughter).
I sent Lorajean something privately. No thanks necessary for not sparking the Great Harlot Comments Vaccination Debate of 08. I am able to show restraint on occasion.

  84. I cannot get over how completely adorable those sweaters are! They put the trellis I just knit for my cousin’s soon-to-be born (girl) baby to shame!!!

  85. Now I know why my daughter was three weeks late! There was no knitting in our lives 25 years ago. We have a picture of the midwife with soaking wet hair in nearly 100 degree weather.
The buttons for the blue one are perfect.
Megan is blessed to have such a responsible friend!

  86. Oh good on you! I just had my third baby a week ago today!! When I finished her baby blanket I was *sure* I would go into labour but it wasn’t to be…ended up being sewing the buttons on a little vest I made that did it! Had her the same day :).
Please let us know when the baby is earthside!

  87. Gorgeous! No doubt that this child will be fighting to get out now so she can get on with the jacket wearing. Beautiful : )

  88. Ooh, Stephanie – the sweaters look gorgeous. I’m curious to see which one is needed… I predict “Baby Mine.”
Incidentally, what are your plans for the second sweater? Will Megan-of-the-yarn-store-not-your-daughter receive both of them even if she delivers Baby Yours/Hers?

  89. I was knitting a couple of weeks ago to help keep my friend’s granddaughter in utero. Baby Hope was born at 25 weeks and 1 lb 7 oz, and we all held our breath, but 2 weeks later she’s doing well, off the vent and according to the NICU nurses, “feisty”! Maybe the Knitting Karma helped?
Of course the poor kid looks like a rhesus monkey, but that’s all of the phylogeny she had time to recapitulate (a little developmental biology humour, nevermind.)

  90. Will the patterns be available? I know the yarn is…they are breathtaking. I sit here with my 2 month old son (he’s sleeping in his sling) and I think…he’s still little so maybe…

  91. The sweaters, what we can see of them are lovely. I sincerely hope Megan, not your daughter, is safely delivered soon. I have suffered watching my heavily pregnant daughter-in-law cope with her last month (she looked 9 months at 5 months). Fortunately she has delivered a beautiful 5th granddaughter for me (last week)and is looking far more relaxed. Being a week late I managed to knit a capelet for “Mum” as well.
    Isn’t birth amazing?
    Janet MF up in YK

  92. Ask Megan nicely if we can see pictures of her baby. Can’t wait!
Pictures of the finished sweaters will be nice too…really like the pink one 🙂

  93. That is a mighty power, my friend, and those of us who have been where Megan is right now appreciate it that you use it responsibly. (Especially when the goombahs would kick RIGHT in the cervix. OOW-WCH.)

  94. They look great. The baby will want out now, just to wear one of them.
Just wanted to let you know that I love your blog. It’s positively inspirational, and gets me through the workday, and I really wanted to let you know. Thanks.

  95. What beautiful sweaters, well at least the parts we can see. (You are such a sweater tease!) I’m sure Megan appreciates your thoughtfulness in finishing them so she can finish herself. You have a mighty power and it is in good hands. Thanks God I don’t have it. As The Slowest Knitter in the World, I would have the poor woman giving birth to a 50 lb baby! Unintentionally of course, but I wouldn’t be done with whatever for at least 2 months after the due date, especially if I knit something with cables! I’m really glad the force is with you LOL!

  96. they are absolutely gorgeous!!! Great job as usual. Now you can spin and spin and spin. Nice colors also.

  97. Fingers crossed for a swift and safe delivery. All the best to Mum and Baby. And who wouldn’t put in a rapid appearance if they’d got a Harlot Original waiting for them?

  98. Nothing says love like a hand knit baby sweater. Especially one you designed. I’m sure Megan wouldn’t hold a little thing like blocking and buttons against you. Come out little baby mine/yours……..it’s just too hot to stay inside mummy any longer.

  99. Nom, nom, nom! They look wonderful – please, please, please write up the patterns when you have the chance (although I completely accept that you might want to keep them special for your dear friend).
I bet Megan is in labour as I type!

  100. First the sweaters are beautiful. I hope to some day get to that level of intricacy. But there is a yarn shop in Canada that had beer too? Now I am definitely moving up there! Or at least visiting at some point. 🙂

  101. Great sweaters!
BTW, I mentioned in your comments that I’d been looking for a sweater pattern for years. Your readers are awesome! Within hours I had several people not only remember the pattern, post pictures for me, but also volunteer to send me a copy they had from their stash (or their mother’s stash, or their grandmother’s stash).
So I’m in the process of knitting it up for my new grandbaby. Thanks to your readers!

  102. Can’t wait to see the finished products! They look beautiful, or at least the bits you let us see, you tease, you!

  103. Those little sweaters are beautiful, I am glad you guilted yoursefl into finishing them.
I may have missed something– is it a boy and a girl sweater, for either possibility? Or both?
All the best to Megan from down here in Albany, NY. I know two women right here that are due any minute, it’s going to be a baby palooza!

  104. How about pictures of the entire little sweaters? They look absolutely adorable!!!

  105. I am reasonably certain that I do not wield such great powers, but I hurried up and finished the BSJ I had otn for a baby due to happen at any moment. In fact, we got an email letting us know that medical intervention is planned if baby does not happen by today. Now I need only overcome my next most difficult issue and get it packaged and on the way to the happy family.
Also, instead of just talking about me, I do want to mention that those are lovely sweaters.

  106. Oh, please do publish the pattern. It’s too cute and although all my friends and most of my godchildren are past the babybearing years, there are always co-workers etc.

  107. A friend of mine blames me entirely for her ‘extended’ pregnancy – she left work on the Friday and I hugged her and told her we wouldn’t see her again until after he was born and… Well, she back on Monday and not very happy with me. No more hugging for me, that’s for sure!
    The sweaters look gorgeous!

  108. Maybe I could use your power in the reverse, for good? My water broke last Monday at 23 wks, and I want to keep the baby IN as long as possible. Maybe if you started a baby sweater for this little one and took, say, two and a half months to finish it everything would work out like it should.
Of course, I’m the one on my bum in the hospital, so maybe I’ll see if I can get this to work on my own. Maybe I have superpowers, too.

  109. The sweaters are gorgeous. Makes you wish you were tiny enough to wear them. I was always told that the baby comes when the baby wants, it is all up to he/she.
Just a note that might give you pleasure, my best friend is not a knitter but when we worked together last year I would read your blog during lunch, reading the funny parts to her. We both got new jobs after the first of the year. I was talking with her on the phone last night making plans to see Mama Mia this weekend and she asked what your were up to. Seems she misses her daily dose of Yarnharlot even though she doesn’t knit.

  110. I’m quite sure that “Mega-yarn” appreciates your efforts.
We often make up new names for our own Megan, which I won’t mention here as she’s taller and stronger than I am…

  111. Absolutely gorgeous!!! (And with your record, I wouldn’t be taking any chances either….)
And Lettuce Knit has beer too? I’d better get that passport quick! I need to take a vacation.

  112. Those sweaters are gorgeous! Whether a boy or a girl that baby is going to look absolutely fabulous! And good for you for not making poor mommy stay pregnant any longer in the heat!

  113. I also quilt, and the morning before my due date I had to go to the fabric shop for a piece of border fabric! I did have the occasional twinge during the shopping trip. The baby came the next morning, right on time (the midwife was surprised he arrived on the due date!), and I finished the quilt a while after that.
Knitting would have been easier – and quicker! Best of luck to Megan; she looks just radiant!

  114. Those detail shots of the sweaters look beautiful.
Could you possibly let us see each sweater in it’s entirety?
I cannot BELIEVE you have so many comments! Why does nobody leave comments on MY blog?

  115. Well I am glad you finished. As a pregnant knitter I can imagine your fear. 🙂 Now tell her to go for it and have that baby!!

  116. That was nice of you to finish the sweaters, so you don’t have to feel guilty for Megan still being pregnant! LOL! Hope Megan has her baby soon.
I was pregnant in July once, and was due August 31st, so you think I might have had to go through all of August, too, but my older daughter had other plans and was born August 4th. Wasn’t that nice of her? She was 4 weeks early, but really was fine and went home with me 4 days later (c-section). She’s almost 19 now.

  117. Lettuce Knit has beer…I am going to immigrate to Canada…At least as soon as my baby is born and I can have beer again.
Your sweaters are gorgeous. Any chance you’re going to share the patterns with your loyal readership? I would love to make one or both for my baby-to-be!
Okay baby – it’s time to come out. You’re one lucky baby to be wrapped up in so much wooly goodness!

  118. Well, maybe it’s just the picture, but are you certain Megan isn’t growing 2 babies? Maybe one of each type…how fortuitous of you to knit for each one!

  119. Isn’t it GREAT to have a baby to knit for that you don’t have to give birth to? That’s my thinking anyway.

  120. As a knitter who is fortunate to work in a yarn shop, I can vouch for the drawing power that is in the store. . . it is truely amazing. the sweaters look amazing by the way, I am sure megan was thrilled.

  121. My co-worker is still pregnant and it’s all my fault!! I’ve been wasting time working on a turtle for a big sister gift for her daughter.
And why isn’t there beer at my LYS. When I retire I’m gonna open up a knitting bar!!

  122. If you think Toronto is hot, I’ll be happy to swap – here in Phoenix it is TORRID!!!!!!!
